You knew the Oilers would come harder than they ever have.
We're down by one... I think this is actually a good position.

Just now, stawns said:
You either cut off the passing lane and leave McD open in the slot, or you cover McD and hope Drai whiffs.
That's why they are so lethal
No, you just don't commit three guys to cover McDavid... there was a mixup in coverage.
They will get it fixed.

Imagine if it was higher; WOW
They do need to get the shots on goal up.
Personally I think they could do that by putting someone better with Pettersson than the Rookies and 4th liners he has up to this point.
Last game Mikheyev missed an open net... wide.
I understand Tocchet is focused on defense, and the Pettersson line has been good that way... just think sometimes you can go too far, and the best D is having the puck in the O-Zone.

If there was any doubt we would win this game, now there isn't; I guaranty Vancouverites know just a wee bit more.
Hell I know the faces of the players on Edmonton's 4th line... what a bunch of bozos... call themselves hockey fans?

That very wise man John Garrett is on record in the last week saying Brock Boeser is becoming a candidate for the Conn Smythe based on his performance to date.
And while it is definitely premature to make any predictions midway through the 2nd round, Brock is definitely on the horizon.
A year ago, everyone was talking about how best to unload Brock... maybe even a salary dump with retention.
This year turned everything around... 40 goals, great playoffs so far.
I think there are concrete factors weighing on why BB's wasn't meeting expectations in the years prior to 2023/2024... which some maybe overlook or underestimate.
Everyone knows Brock is an exceptional human being as a person... he is a genuinely nice guy. We all know the story of how he took a disabled girl to the prom... someone he'd never met and had no obligation to. That tells you about his sensitivity and compassion. There are other stories. Brock always seems to have a smile on his face, never complains, always the quiet team player.
That sensitivity goes a long way in explaining why his performance dropped off in the couple years prior to 23/24.
We know his father was suffering through a long series of devastating illnesses... and Brock had to witness the effects 1st hand.
As someone who lost my mother to a longterm fatal illness a few years back, I can tell you the effects of watching a loved one gradually deteriorate and fade is an incredibly difficult one. It takes a huge toll on one both mentally and physically... in one's positive outlook and in one's energy level. I have no doubt Brock was suffering hugely... and it was impossible for it not to affect his gameplay. If you watch the twitter feed where he talks about it, you see the agony on his face.
Duke is finally at rest, and almost two years later Brock has been able to come to terms with his emotional loss... and become the player he was always destined to be. I don't think he has forgotten his father... you can see that when he looks up at the sky after a big goal or play, but he has accepted and understood.
He is still the quiet guy, who doesn't blow his own horn and who always puts the team first, but he has become a real force for the team.
Everything about his play has improved, his vision, his shooting, his playmaking... he has had a huge part in JT Miller's exceptional season. And its not just on the puck... defensively he has also made huge strides... his defensive anticipation has become one of the best on the team... he has made huge plays during this playoff to break up scoring chances, block shots, and be physical on the puck carrier.
I am so happy to see this turnaround... because if anyone does, Brock deserves to have fun and succeed in the game.
Brock is of course, an American, born in Minnesota... but from a Canadian, BC born, I would stay, and I think everyone would agree, Brock has become an honorary Vancouverite... after all Minnesotans are as close to Canadians as you can get, they have the climate, they have hockey in their blood, and they have the same hard working character as the best Canadians have.
Thanks Brock, for making Vancouver your home away from home... here's hoping for more success.

Unlike the Nashville series, where I felt Tocchet was being out-coached and where I think we were very lucky to win, I think this series Tocchet has the upper hand.
Knobhead has made a lot of bad decisions... especially putting Draisaitl and McDavid together at even strength and then over-playing their line at the expense of ice time for the bottom six.
Sure their top two should get at least 20-22 minutes, and should be together on the PP, but a winning team needs to have balance on ice time of the lines.
The lack of production from the bottom 9 has really been obvious for the Oilers... and they can't win that way.
Plus if the Oilers somehow come out of this series with a win, McDavid and Draisaitl will be completely burnt out... they'll be run out of the rink by whoever wins the Dallas/Colorado series.

Nux just have to keep taking the body and finish the checks. They will wear them out in a series. Nux have size advantage..
Edmonton has been playing McDavid and Draisaitl so much their checking lines have had no ice time, and no time to be physical.
Whereas the Canucks have been rolling their lines like the regular season and the 2nd/3rd/4th lines have been getting their time and their hits.
Playing imbalanced line times and depending on a few guys is not the way to get the maximum out of your team.
Knobhead has made his decision to go extreme with ice time for his two top guys, but I think it is back-firing on him.

Any illusion that the League was fair and objective in its discipline has been extinguished with this ruling.
McDavid initiated the exchange with his slash... Soucy gave him a light bump prior to the slash... nothing out of the ordinary when a player is around the net.
But clearly there are two standards. One for the NHL golden boy and one for a Vancouver Canucks player.
This is a serious loss for the Canucks and will affect them in game 4.
Once again Vancouver has been targeted... and the League's bias has been revealed.
We saw this same cr*p in 2011... now we are seeing it in 2024.
If the team ever gets to the finals, and its against New York, imagine the Reffing and discipline.

Actually, players are not paid during playoffs.
The salary is regular season only.
Yup, and this year Petey was paid $7.35 million in the regular season.
Next year he starts getting the big bucks.

Truth is EP40 has been far from an $11,500,000 in the playoffs, so far. The authors take is a legit rant. I agree EP looks apprehensive and that has affected his game. Last game, he was looking for the puck and more offensively involved, I was hoping that was going to be his play going forward. Remember the ol'adage "it's a business."
#1 He's being paid $7.35
#2 He's playing well defensively... saved multiple goals in the series... his line is not giving up goals. (+1 this game)
#3 He is not scoring the way we would like... true, that is disappointing... but he is not playing with exactly inspiring linemates. This game he was paired with Mikheyev again, (hands of stone... he missed an open net this game) and Karlsson... who is a Rookie. (better than Hoglander, but a Rookie) He's also getting over some kind of illness. Yeah he should be better, by his own standards, but hopefully he will improve.

im almost certain they do, and i agree, it will make it way easier to defend against them
they threw them out there for 30mins and it didnt work, they have to try something else
coilers are absolutely cooked - they got perry and kane on the douchebag discount and they arent even contributing at the level their discount would warrant
draisaitl being a little bitch as well, clearly their culture has been infected by the douchebag signings
very glad to see mcdavid took 2x the damage in exchange for his cheap dirty two hander. maybe now he'll think twice before doing that kinda shit.
Don't assume the Oilers are out of it.
By my estimation they'll get one more good game out of McDavid and Draisaitl before they burn out.
And that will be in front of rabid, screaming Edmonton fans.
Next game will be just as tough.
Canucks need to refine their game even more... get on McDavid and Draisaitl and the Oiler's D early... hit, hit, hit, hit.

The Oilers have their 2 stars but really it’s just a Power Play they have. It’s like if they don’t score or only get one PP goal it’s pretty much a guaranteed win.
They are good at acting and scoring on the power play. They aren’t that special
This game they were 2-4... but it wasn't enough.
The fact we were able to stop two of their PP's killed them.
Previously they had gone double figures at 100%.

I wonder if they move Draisaitl back to the 2nd line for more balanced lines.
That would be good for the Canucks and Miller line, easier to defend against one of them than both of them on the same line.
Shhhh.... don't say that.
And actually I think Draisaitl is injured... he can't take hits like he would normally be able to shrug off when he carrys the puck.
So McDavid is carrying the puck and passing to Draisaitl when he is in the clear.

I love the hit stats.
This is a result of Edmonton playing McDavid/Draisaitl so much... neither of them hit... so the other lines which hit get no ice time.
Meanwhile our 1st/2nd/3rd/4th lines are pounding the Oilers.

Desmith has been great but he is a back up and will probably never be a starter on any team at this point in his career, Silovs has a real future as a number 1 if he keeps this shit up.
If Silovs gets bombed, then replace him with DeSmith. Otherwise, keep him in.
Once Demko comes back, he has to go in... I know everyone loves Silovs, but his save percentages and GAA are not great.
He is doing the job, and is the best option right now, but Demko is a step above in experience and ability right now.
Silovs is a future #1 and the chances of starting in Vancouver is good.

Something I wanted to mention:
The fact Edmonton is playing McDavid nearly 30 min and Draisaitl over 29 min means the bottom six lines have a lot less time to get into a rhythm and get their legs.
It is actually counter-productive to reduce a line's ice time that much.
Commentators are talking about how the other lines aren't producing, how can you produce when you get one shift ever 10 minutes?
Obviously you play your top line more, but not at the expense of total team play.
The Canucks have been rolling their lines... Miller/Boeser/Suter are getting a lot of time, but they are on for 20:00 minutes... they are tag-teaming the McDavid line with Lindholm's line and sometimes Blueger's or Pettersson's lines. Its a TEAM effort.
