Other than a five minute spell, the Canucks were outplayed in the 1st and 2nd.... although they didn't allow a lot of quality chances, and Demko was solid... 3rd was dominant.
Better game for the Petersson line, I thought the addition of Kuzmenko was key. He and Petey have chemistry which can't be taught.
Kuzzy was key to Petersson's goal, he got Gibson to lose his temper and his focus and Petey slipped the puck in.
Generally better game again for the 3rd and 4th lines in the 2nd/3rd, they continue to bail out the team when the first two lines aren't going.
Garland continues to be a real firecracker, and now that he's got guys to work with, it is paying off. Line could have had a couple goals.

Next game with be the real challenge.
Knights are Cup Champs and asserting themselves again this year.
How the Canucks play in that game will be a real marker for the season.

Much better game for Petersson and his line.
Kuzmenko was the key to Petey's goal... got Gibson to lose his temper and his focus.
Kinda of a slow start, but they finished well in the third.
Demko was solid.

Pettersson and Kuzmenko were the key to winning this game.
'Nuff said.

Pettersson's worth: when he's at his very peak, he may be worth 11m. The issue is, Pettersson doesn't reach that level nearly often enough or with as much consistency to be worth anywhere near 11m. A contract worth 11m or more would be a huge mistake.
Kuzmenko lesson: sell high on players, especially when they're riding a historically high shooting percentage. How many of you would still rather have signed him last year rather than trade him at the deadline? Imagine the assets and cap flexibility that would have bought us. Just a ridiculously poorly thought out decision by management, which we're paying for now.
Another band wagon jumper... likely two years ago you were saying Pettersson should be traded.... then probably you jumped on the bandwagon in 2022/2023 for his 100 point season... now you are jumping off again since he has tailed off for a few games and no longer leads the league.
And Kuz is having some D coverage problems... but he will be back... and the team needs him. He has huge offensive chemistry with Pettersson and the reason Pettersson is temporarily not putting up the points is probably because Kuz is not on his line.
The number of knee jerk responses on the forums never ceases to amaze me.

Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson held a media conference this afternoon, where he appeared to shoot down the social media-fuelled rumour. Davidson said that he wasn’t able to disclose any details because it’s an “individual personnel matter,” but he made sure to make one clarification during his opening remarks.
“I do want to be very clear on this one point,” Davidson said. “This does not involve any players or their families. And anyone that suggests otherwise is wildly inaccurate, and frankly, it’s disgusting.”

Difference tonight was the goalies... De Smith did not have good night.... but hey, considering how well he has played, I'll give him a pass. Markstrom had a good 1st period when he needed too... and then shut the door in the 2nd and 3rd.
The other factor was Quinn Hughes did not look his usual dominant self... missed passes, lots of mistakes, couple giveaways... etc. Maybe that hit on him and perhaps a lack of sleep?
And give Calgary credit, they were aggressive in their forecheck, played well in their D-Zone and were physical.
On to the next one!
By the way, if there is anyway PA can swing a deal for Zadorov, he should do so. Give big Z a couple months under Goncharev's teaching and he could become a real force.
PA should NOT try to sign Tanev. Back a couple years ago, I said keep him, and I have been proven right Benning made a mistake, but that was a long time ago and Tanev is not worth it now at his age.

THE REBUILD IS OVER.
We're there, dude.
Enjoy it.
No the rebuild isn't over.
Team still needs to improve their defense to really get thing locked down.
The guys who were brought in off season are improvements, but with the exception of Hronek, they are not the solution. For one, they are older.
One more younger big D-man should be added in the 3-4 pair and they will be set to challenge. Look at the typical Cup winners... usually they have two standout D pairs.
Canucks do have the offense... I don't think they really need anything there.... could use maybe some more depth and toughness on the 4th line/bench to throw into playoff games if people go down with injuries or things get chippy.
Right now the team offensively are playing over their head... most notably due to Hughes... but it is unrealistic to expect him to keep up this pace... that would mean as many have mentioned, a 130 point season... basically unheard of in today's NHL for a D-man.
And Demko is also playing probably a little over what he should be predicted to accomplish... he is a very good goalie, but right now he is absolutely lights out.
I expect the team to make the playoffs, probably do so without taking the Wildcard route.
But I am a little concerned about D-size in the playoffs and the potential for injuries.

Nice to see the Hoglander line develop a real strong identity.
Other teams can no longer take Canucks 3rd line for granted and put weak D and poor backcheckers against them... they will be punished if they do.

Somebody better answer that phone. Because I called it. I knew this was gonna be a thumping. This team loves feasting on the squatters. Good night to get a few monkeys off a few fellers backs. Suter and Beauvillier getting some goals is always nice. I hope Kahkonen is okay, I only watched the highlights. Kuzy is such a lovable guy. Immediately worried about the fallen tender. Class. Also nice to see the guy I been defending all these years get a couple snipe jobs. Boeser is every bit as lovable as Kuzy. Nice to see him be rewarded for his effort and after some trying years.
Boeser is up there with the goal leaders in the league.

Don't let him wolf down too many hotdogs and guzzle too many softdrinks... he might end up barfing.

The Canucks are off to a good start.
But lets not get too excited about this 10-1 massacre... Shart$ are the absolute doormat of the league. They will give a clinic on tanking.

Boeser doesn't play on the same line as Petey.
And on the PP, its Miller who is setting up Boeser for the slot shots.
And nobody is Petey's boyfriend except you maybe in your imagination.
