Lol they keep acting like they faced so much adversity…

They were always predicted to be a top team and had a poor start.

Adversity is losing your starting goalie at the start of the playoffs. 🤦‍♂️

Yes, Oilers have no serious injuries... unless Draisaitl is hiding it really well.

    No real adversity.

You have to hit Drai and McJesus... the Canucks did a much better job of that than Dallas.

As I said before, I think the results of this series reflects well on the Canucks.

We are the only team to take Oilers to 7.

Huggy was doing too much before Hronek arrived. Hronek freed him up, created the mobility to make opposition off balance, creating more holes. That's why they were so successful. They fed off each other.

    They are a decent partnership...

But I personally think Hughes having a bigger RHD playing with him would be better.

They have problems controlling the boards under heavy forecheck because both of them are smaller.

Not saying Z, Soucy or Myers can be slotted in, but ideally a larger more physical D-man who is a fit with Hughes is a better solution.

But finding that D is tough... and do you give up a existing partnership that does work pretty well...  in favour of bringing in a new guy who maybe works?

We have a great bottom 6

If we can keep that line together

    I disagree... not enough size.

    The guys I would keep:

Blueger and Suter as centers for third and fourth lines, plus Aman as PK and 4th line winger.  (he's also the extra center)  Joshua as a winger on the third line if we can sign him for a decent amount.  Garland another 3rd line winger... should be retained... not traded... he is signed for a couple more seasons.

The rest can all walk.... Lafferty, Di Giuseppe, etc.

That leaves a need to bring in at least one big, fast fourth liner... in the mould of Joshua... or bigger.  But the new guy does not need to be able to score... just to hit and be physical.  10-15 pts a season is enough.

If Joshua can't be signed cheaply, then you need to find another similar large physical/fast 3rd liner.

We need size/speed/hitting... goal scoring and points not so important.

    For the top six:

Suter should be replaced on Miller's line with a top sixer.

Mikheyev should be replaced on Pettersson's line with a top sixer.

Assuming Lindholm is signed, that means we need at least one top six player from free agency or from Abby.  (maybe Karlsson/Lekkermaki/Podkolzin ? )

Edmonton is still a one line team.

    Disagree.

The lines they are running now on First and Second are better than most in the league.

    McDavid/Hyman/Nugent-Hopkins + Draisaitl/Kane/Henrique.

Both McDavid and Draisaitl can drive a line.

Knobhead shuffles these around and sometimes puts Drai and McJesus together when they need a boost.

The one thing the Canucks did against the Oil in their series was to force them to put their big two guys together more often... Dallas has not forced them at all.

His team is no longer doing stupid things in front of him which helps.

Oilers D has played well... especially Eckholm who has been great in both ends of the ice.

Even boned head Nurse hasn't been making nearly as many stupid plays.

And Philip Broberg has played extremely well.

I was really hoping we would get a shot at drafting Broberg, but the Oilers management saw the same thing.

He will be a good one in the future for them.

Yea as much as I would like Tanev to come back he's not the right fit if we're signing him to play with Hughes. He can't play 20+ min anymore and certainly can't be count on in a long playoff series.

I agree...  Tanev is past it... better to sign Myers, Z and Soucy, and let Juulsen learn through the season.  Also sign Hronek if we can get him at 7.0.

So win the whole damn thing next year?

If they can re-sign Z, Myers and Soucy, add 2 big, fast 4th liners who like to hit, and find a top six winger either in free agency or from the organization.

And if Demko is not over-played and is healthy for the playoffs... its unimportant to finish #1 in the League or Conference if your goalie goes down just before the playoffs.

Demko healthy can win a series all by himself.

Agreed, you still have to win the games, but I'd say Vancouver looked outclassed for the majority of that series, even when they won.  Silovs was unreal

I agree the Canucks were generally outplayed... but that is with no Demko.... Silovs played well but look at his stats... not close to Demko's typical level.

And as has been mentioned, with Pettersson not at 100% and Boeser missing in the final game and clearly drained of energy in the 6th game.

The Canucks did hold McDavid to well below his usual production during the series... unlike what Dallas has accomplished.

And they chased Skinner out of the net for a couple games... overall I think the Canucks challenged the Oiler goalies much more effectively.

This Dallas team is all over the place, and have like zero physicality..

They're constantly losing their men and leaving Oilers wide open, and aren't making it tough on Skinner at all

    Dallas is really underachieving.

Maybe they are over-confident after coming back against both Vegas and Colorado... but they just seem to be passively waiting for something to happen.

I am not seeing any desperation.

Re the extra gear: also factoring in is the fact that they were completely humiliated during the first part of the season. That's motivation and I'm sure that failure, at this point, would loom pretty large for them.

I do give them credit for how they turned their season around...we've done that too though.

So I hope they crash and burn is what I'm trying to say here.

Coaching in both cases....  Knoblauch has to be given credit for giving the Oil a defensive system... same as Tocchet for the Canucks.
