My son's at the game and he sent me this. This was the best usher the Canucks ever had....my friend Vern. With the team from the start. I attended his funeral and still can't believe he's gone, it's so weird not seeing him behind the net. It was sudden and unexpected. A week or two beforehand my friend saw him and he said tell Deb I'll see her next season. RIP Vern.

Well, we don't get Marie again tonight but we do get the next best thing...Elizabeth. Yes, it matters (to me)

Thing is, if you watch "The Enforcers" the players themselves tell you why fighting is a necessary part of hockey. Without it, you get the dbags running around cheap shotting everyone and potentially injuring players. You need a deterrent, especially in a league where the refs can often miss (aka overlook) things that should be called but aren't. I do consider the impact of concussions and it's a fine line for me....either way is ok. But there is a price to pay if there isn't fighting. Guys getting slammed to the ice is also a risk so players doing that need to know they may have to answer the bell. As for the "violence" in a game....it's there in different shapes and forms. You get spears, slashes, violent hits into the boards....fighting's just an extension of that. A more transparent form of it. I hate violence, period...so fighting makes me cringe as I do hold my breath and hope no one's seriously injured. But it isn't as easy as "just stop". It's a physical sport that calls for hitting...which can lead to...fighting.

I LOVE that it's a sunny weekend here and we get not only one but TWO games! Life is good folks. We deserve this awesomeness.

This team really wants to win and those that questioned that don't understand that, as athletes, they don't compete for any other reason. Sure, they get paid millions but they'd like play for free. The core here is solid and players who have the ability to take this to another level. The supporting cast in place hasn't always been sufficient and we're putting some good pieces in place. Also, Tocchet is making a difference. Loved Bruce and he was right at the time for where the team was, but this is now a matter of pushing forward. They deserve some momentum and the confidence that goes with that. It must've been so deflating when they weren't getting the results they wanted and, at times, deserved. It's all about keeping it in check though...one lesson is that "a" convincing win doesn't mean you've done something special. Each game is a fresh slate and you have to prove yourself in on ongoing basis. They're learning how to do that...to be ready for the next game after a good win. The losses after the wins were an important part of it...to remind them they couldn't coast or rest on a couple of wins. It slips away if you do that and I believe they get that part. It's so nice to not be in a big hole in October though...this team's for real. As much as we've relied on Demko for wins, they're now helping him get the wins.

I caught that too...pure elation. He deserves to be here and I'm glad that the powers that be have seen it that way.
