  1. They probably would have preferred that too, but they might not have been interested, knowing that he would need to be waived and a potential free pick up.
  2. Wonder how many times JR/PA have made trades with divisional rivals while in Pittsburgh. They probably do see it as an issue, just like Flames management didn't last year with us.
  3. He may actually crack their line up as they are desperate for cheap players to fill the gap... But its a good call for us, as he was unlikely to crack our line up, and he was not going to pass theough waivers... Some bottom team would pick him up for nowt. on the other hand we would have to play him so many times during the season... As long as he doesn't turn into a player, management did, what they had to to do. on a side note, wonder if Alvin is collecting picks to ship out, Poolman?
  4. This.... love Podz like any Canucks, but if they lost him for nothing after camp, folks would be losing their shit as well... Its clear they didn't expect Podz to be on the team after camp, and looking at the players avaiable, it was unlikely.. But Edmonton....
  5. Its one of these small gifts in life... they are screwing one another, and we get to sit back and enjoy watching it unfold.
  6. Fair enough and very true... If we discuss peaking guess we can add, how much they are declining... As you say Gretzky was actually a great example...
  7. Cheers, But still... Its far more likely you don't peak at 25. I think we can agree its more normal they don't peak at 25. If it wasn't it would be insanity to extend anyone at the age of 25-26 for 7-8 years... But yes it is far from unheard off. In Canucks history you name 6 and could probably find treble that number if you started looking properly, but out of the number of players that gone through the system it is still a relative small number... Also think we have to distinguish between peaking and injuries... But of course we could end up seeing Petey had peaked by now... However if I was a betting man, I would put my money on Petey continuing at this pace (point per game and above) for many years to come.
  8. Yes but they are the exceptions to the rule... Most players do not top at the age of 24. But of course there is no guarentees and there is always the concern of injuries...
  9. Exactly... They are 2 different players, and while Miller now at the height of his prime perhaps brings more to the table, it would be foolish to think Petey won't be a 100point player for most of the next 7-8 years... You just don't let go of a player, who has been around a point per game his entire career incl. a 100 point seasons by the age of 25. Nobody knows, what the future brings, but if you were to place a bet, I'd say Petey will have out produced Miller by some distance over the next 5 years, taking into account how players normally progress/regress throughout their careers... Fun to think back to the discussions, when JR/PA chose Miller over Horvat... At that stage many were preferring Horvat, as he was younger than Miller... Millers contract won't age well etc. was a main topic... Luckily Miller has played so well, that folks now wonder, if he is a more valuable player the Petey... We are just extremely lucky to have both of these players at the same time... However, as much as I love Petey, if the question was between Petey and Hughes, I'd have to go with Hughes... you just don't find many players Hughes and he is only 24... We are blessed.... I truly believe, we have a decent shot at a really long run this upcoming season.
  10. We don't... but the likelihood of Petey playing at a higher level for longer is bigger... Petey is only 25 years old. Would be a huge surprise, if he had already reached his peak and would be down hill from now... Miller is unlikely playing at his present level at the end of his contract, not many does. Actually can't believe folks are already starting to turn a 25 year old kid, just because he got paid, had a half season at less than his normal production, and then he is past his peak? How was Miller at 25?
  11. Yes spot on. We sucked at drafting for a long time, or rather we should have done better. Just like we should have bottomed out a couple of years instead of trying to be competitive with players neither ready nor able. But now we are where we are and the futute looks brighter than it has in a long time... thank god for JR and PA... they have build a team able to compete within a year and a half....
  12. While agreeing about the Stars, Canucks also drafted Demko in the 2nd round...
  13. Yes, have been missing that for a long time... In saying that, Miller keep the opposition on their toes, and if you took that part out of him, I don't think you'll get they player, we got... He has to play with a bit of an edge... And at times it spills over, however he is the closest we got to a true power forward. An Iginla light... And to be fair, I'd rather Miller taking it on himself, if somebody wanna make a name for himself, than they run Brock or the likes into the boards, or challenge Petey etc... I pray that Miller doesn't get I injured, cause that would severely hamper us, but we can't only have a plug on the 4th line to protect the top 6 players... If it gets out of hand have a plug go after the other teams top players... that is far more of a deterrent... They nail Petey, we Nail Matthews or McD etc... I really like the team composition now... there a lots of hard-nosed players on this team, and a lot of them aren't afraid to drop em... its been a long time, since I felt thing good about our team over all...
  14. @Canuckfanforlife82 I think your account has been hacked..........................................................
  15. Disagree... if you add everything he provides, I'd argue he is an 11M player... the last few years... He is obviously around 100 points pace He leads in the physical department hits, forechecks, fights, PKs... I'm not sure, what more he can do.... except more points, in which case he'd be even higher... Players like McD and Matthews has more goals/points but are poor defensively and don't drop them... I'd rate him just below MacKinnon and a younger Stamkos, but while Petey and Hughes are the stars and silky players on this team, Miller is the heart beat....
  16. That is actually a good call... Thinly veiled memo for upcoming contract negotiations...
  17. This was never ever going to happen.... If you have a player like McD, you keep him for life. Right or wrong... Imagine if we had McD... This fan base would have killed who ever was the GM unless he hit jack pot. Get what you are saying, and the reasoning may very well be right, but you just don't trade a generational player like McD, unless you are forced into doing so...
  18. They have been great at balancing the books, and in general getting bang for buck... This is really important as we go into the more severe penalty for the OEL recap.
  19. A safe bet starting on an ELC.... money matters the next few years...
  20. Absolutely not... and as I said "obviously legal".... Fans are fickle though... there's an often used phrase 'he's a prick, but he is our prick"... I don't think there is any excuse for looking through fingers of any kind, when it comes to sexual assault, however I don't make the rules and as long as the league says, he has served his punishment, its up to us as individuals to decide, if we can accept people like that, regardless of which crime they committed... I am sure there are lots of Oiler fans feeling uneasy about the situation, and if it goes pear shaped the knives will be out, however if they win the cup, a lot of the same fans will turn a blind eye to it... It will not stop them from celebrating... My point however still stands, if Gilles or the most hated GM in modern Canucks times Benning, would be celebrated as geniuses no matter how rubbish part of their tenures were...
  21. Cheers Surfer... Yeah as I said its well worth a try, and even at 90% it would be a massive improvement... Thing is Burrows kind of figured it out. if not being telepathic at least he knew, where they wanted him to go... Petey has a gift, and when he is on song, he jus up there with the best of them... getting him a partner that would understand it entirely would be like winning the jackpot.. PS. I remember my first game at GM Place... Sedins were second line players and they scored one of their slap pass goals... you could see instantly they had something going between them... good times
