don't lose your head over it. his brother was a general in napolean's army. don't know if my ggf's loyalties were in that direction too. that is as far back as i can get on my dad's side. on my mom's side, i can get back to the 5 and 600's.

at my advanced latter years, i spend it learning my history. that is when the hockey season is over.

  2. at one point yesterday, there was 5 joes in the chat. joe kerr, joe king , joe max, joey joe joe jr, and some kid from smithers.

  3. still love to see us sign soderstrom to a 2 way contract.

play him in abby till he maximizes his talents.

i have a good feeling about him.

I think going home to Sweden to play Pro (and if he excels there) have teams bid on him when his contract is up, might be a more attractive option for him in his eyes?

  4. who might the canuck's trade for d help? besides poolman's contract.

      Podkolzin?

Why would it be helpful to trade him?

He wouldn't offer any cap relief and his value would only be as a someday hopeful.

Hoglander on the other hand has shown he can step into a lineup and produce at a super low number. This could be the perfect opportunity to get high value for him (like a Broberg?) while Podz hopefully rounds back into form to be a valuable piece within 1-2 years.

Good question. I think it will be a case of too many bodies and too few spots. Podkolzin is clearly in a dogfight to nail down a roster spot. If he can't and they have to send him to Abbotsford, he'd have to clear waivers and I don't think he would. So, if he doesn't show enough to earn a spot in Vancouver, I believe it would be better to trade him than lose him on waivers. But I openly admit that I could be completely wrong about this and maybe he gets a tryout in the top six and fills the net. Don't think so, but who knows?

I don't think so either, but it's fun to dream!

  5. i can't remember how poolman played when he was healthy.

was he offensive or defensive, neither or both? no memory.

      Olli Juolevi

More of a defensive guy IIRC. I seem to recall him handling the puck like a live grenade.

I remember in prehistoric times, when I think CKNW had the Comedy Spot every Sunday afternoon, and have I fond memories of Bob Newhart, made us laugh with his one-sided telephone conversational humour. It was uncanny how he did his routine and you could almost hear what the person on the other end was saying. I think his album was called the Buttoned Down Mind of Bob Newhart, or something like that. Never told an off-colour joke that I ever heard.

One memorable episode of The Bob Newhart Show, he was asked to speak at a nudist colony.

His level discomfort was just hilarious. When he gets back to the office Jerry and Carol are discussing and chuckling at Bob being at a nudist colony. Then as the end credits run, You see his, tie, shirt, pants all fly out into the reception area.

He's amazing! I just hope whatever was bothering him (cramping?) isn't something more serious. He's really clutch and some of those catches in double coverage are incredible.

"I'd much prefer not have a defenceman who can't play defence".

Maybe that's why Shultz chose Oilers over Canucks before, as the Oilers think the opposite of you  😜

      Rounoush

Just a reminder that he won back-to-back Stanley Cups so slagging off his defensive game is pretty silly. He is, at least, competent.

We need a veteran, right-sided puck mover. So I like this move.

The fact they haven't nabbed him yet makes me think they have something else up their proverbial sleeve. I wouldn't have had a problem with bringing him in to play third pair minutes though personally.

    4. Elias Pettersson

      Elias Pettersson

Most likely it's about the money.  It always is.  I can see Silovs wanting $2 million and Allvin offering $1 million.  They might split the difference at $1.5 million.  Still gives us some money left over to get another forward or Dman.

  12. fans are calling forbot and desharnais as turn over machines but in the same breath say they were excellent penalty killers. how do those 2 statements, compute?

      6of1_halfdozenofother

^ what they said, plus "turn over machine" is more a function of transitional play (ie. moving from defensive zone to attack the opposition) and attacking (ie. keeping control of the puck in the offensive zone), while penalty killing is all about reducing or squashing the chances the opposition gets in attacking the net.  They're not mutually exclusive. :classic_wink:

Fans also said we need to have more of our in-house developed guys in the lineup yet want to trade Hoglander.

Fans also said we need a good young top right-handed defenseman yet wanted to trade him when we got one.

  14. have to wonder what our team would look like if linden had stayed and got his way on rebuilding this team?

    1. Ghostsof1915

      Ghostsof1915

Well, if he was kept on, I doubt Benning would stay. So the team would have needed a new GM.

Wisebrod probably would have been gone too.

So that might have totally changed things from 2018 on.

Safe to say the OEL trade probably never would have happened.

I wonder if we would still have drafted Podz?

We probably would have struggled a lot but we might have gotten a new coach sooner, and been more patient with building through the draft.

For me it's a big mistake to not sign Zadorov.  They think they are saving dough to put towards Guentzal but when he signs in TBay we are gonna be out in the cold. We then go to plan B for a lesser forward and go doh we actually had enough money for Zad.

  21. why haven't we signed silovs yet? regardless of who we sign, we'll need a back up goalie.

RFA, only needs a Qualifying offer of $813k. needs one more season until arbitration rights. They're probably thinking 2-3 years.

There are rumours and reports that he is expecting to be gifted an NHL roster spot and he's refusing to report to the AHL. His level of entitlement is a huge red flag. 100% no to the Canucks acquiring him.
