don't lose your head over it. his brother was a general in napolean's army. don't know if my ggf's loyalties were in that direction too. that is as far back as i can get on my dad's side. on my mom's side, i can get back to the 5 and 600's.
at my advanced latter years, i spend it learning my history. that is when the hockey season is over.

Podkolzin?
Why would it be helpful to trade him?
He wouldn't offer any cap relief and his value would only be as a someday hopeful.
Hoglander on the other hand has shown he can step into a lineup and produce at a super low number. This could be the perfect opportunity to get high value for him (like a Broberg?) while Podz hopefully rounds back into form to be a valuable piece within 1-2 years.

Good question. I think it will be a case of too many bodies and too few spots. Podkolzin is clearly in a dogfight to nail down a roster spot. If he can't and they have to send him to Abbotsford, he'd have to clear waivers and I don't think he would. So, if he doesn't show enough to earn a spot in Vancouver, I believe it would be better to trade him than lose him on waivers. But I openly admit that I could be completely wrong about this and maybe he gets a tryout in the top six and fills the net. Don't think so, but who knows?

i can't remember how poolman played when he was healthy.
was he offensive or defensive, neither or both? no memory.

I remember in prehistoric times, when I think CKNW had the Comedy Spot every Sunday afternoon, and have I fond memories of Bob Newhart, made us laugh with his one-sided telephone conversational humour. It was uncanny how he did his routine and you could almost hear what the person on the other end was saying. I think his album was called the Buttoned Down Mind of Bob Newhart, or something like that. Never told an off-colour joke that I ever heard.

One memorable episode of The Bob Newhart Show, he was asked to speak at a nudist colony.
His level discomfort was just hilarious. When he gets back to the office Jerry and Carol are discussing and chuckling at Bob being at a nudist colony. Then as the end credits run, You see his, tie, shirt, pants all fly out into the reception area.

"I'd much prefer not have a defenceman who can't play defence".
Maybe that's why Shultz chose Oilers over Canucks before, as the Oilers think the opposite of you

what's keeping silovs from signing?
-
fans are calling forbot and desharnais as turn over machines but in the same breath say they were excellent penalty killers. how do those 2 statements, compute?

^ what they said, plus "turn over machine" is more a function of transitional play (ie. moving from defensive zone to attack the opposition) and attacking (ie. keeping control of the puck in the offensive zone), while penalty killing is all about reducing or squashing the chances the opposition gets in attacking the net. They're not mutually exclusive.

the stats don't back that up whatsoever: https://www.nhl.com/stats/skaters?report=realtime&reportType=season&seasonFrom=20232024&seasonTo=20232024&gameType=2&position=D&sort=giveawaysPer60&page=0&pageSize=50
they are just fine in terms of giveaways per 60.

the final scene from a river runs through it, is my favourite all time scene.

have to wonder what our team would look like if linden had stayed and got his way on rebuilding this team?
-
Well, if he was kept on, I doubt Benning would stay. So the team would have needed a new GM.
Wisebrod probably would have been gone too.
So that might have totally changed things from 2018 on.
Safe to say the OEL trade probably never would have happened.
I wonder if we would still have drafted Podz?
We probably would have struggled a lot but we might have gotten a new coach sooner, and been more patient with building through the draft.

any word on silovs contract?
-
has the season started yet?
-
my wish list is for zadorov, martinook, silovs and a winger for petey. if not zads, then a good rd for 2nd pair.
-
petey needs a scoring playmaker and a tough board battler. sounds like joshua and garland.
-
may the canucks revisit signing zadorov?
-
why haven't we signed silovs yet? regardless of who we sign, we'll need a back up goalie.
-
would you trade a 1st round pick next year to winnipeg for mcgroarty?
-
if canucks can't sign guentzel, what do you want to see them do?
