  2. It's a tragedy too, no doubt, but Johnny is the NHL guy players and the like are likely to have known
  3. Not the news I was expecting to wake up to, absolutely brutal https://6abc.com/post/columbus-blue-jackets-confirm-death-johnny-gaudreau-brother-matthew/15247138/
  4. Dunno, perhaps. He's a fourth liner, no bones about it, but he was also a regular for a top team in Florida. 69 and 79 games played over the past couple seasons. My guess is he misplayed his hand and has had to settle for his lowest payday ever after teams have already fleshed their rosters out, he was probably asking for too much after winning a cup. Perhaps if he'd been more receptive to the market earlier on he'd be earning more, Sens may have gotten him cheaper because of it.
  5. Can't help but wonder if they don't end up getting a shorter deal done, Swayman could cash in after. Is he the sort of player to bet on himself though? Do the Bruins cave on money so as to lock him in with term? Given the way the cap is going up 8.5M probably wouldn't be the end of the world. Bruins don't exactly have a ton of leverage even with Swayman being an RFA, he'll be 26 in November so his UFA years ain't all that far off now. They don't have a ton in the system in the way of goaltenders either, they're sunk without Swayman.
  6. I get the feeling he'd probably be fine, Leafs hit quite a bit as a team last season but their roster isn't exactly physically intimidating
  7. It's taken a lot to win a Selke during Stone and ROR's career too, with the likes of Bergeron and Kopitar around. Some guys have had a death grip on it, and once they let go another guy does. For a while it was Datsyuk, then there were a couple one offs in Kesler and Toews, then it was the Kopitar and Bergeron show before a few more one offs in ROR, Couturier, and Barkov before Bergeron doubled up again. Hell, it took Bergeron retiring for Barkov to become more than a one off winner, he won his second this past season. Now it'll probably be the Barkov show going forward, he's entering his 29 year-old season and probably has at least a couple more Selke wins in him, the list of players who could win it over him is pretty small. Stone never had a chance against some of these guys as a winger, even if he'd managed to stay healthy. If not for Bergeron Kopitar would probably have 4-5 Selkes.
  8. He can be, but teams are willing to put up with the cons for the pros. Florida players put up over a thousand hits this past playoffs for example, over 250 hits more than Edmonton did in the same number of games. Cousins had 130 hits in 69 regular season games, not bad; only played 12 playoff games but probably brought more of the same. There was a Bennett article about it the other day, sometimes having that edge helps, assuming your PK can bail you out. https://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/3061256/panthers-bennett-nastiness-sometimes-necessary Ottawa's gonna have some wrecking balls between Tkachuk, Zub, Greig, and Cousins.
