  1. Seems that way, but gotta think that top end talent lifts them up sooner or later, they have an embrassment of riches as far as young, high end talent goes
  2. Our top players are in their prime and our prospect pool lacks blue chip prospects after Willander, Lekkerimaki, and maybe Raty, seems management wants to get and get a cup while Hughes and Pettersson are in their primes Sooner or later our lack of blue chip youth will catch up with us if we don't add more, but that's gonna happen regardless of what other divisional teams do Just gotta try and enjoy the ride
  3. Eh, odds are their rise would line up with the latter part of our window anyway Vegas and LA could be taking steps back sooner than later too, Vegas ain't getting any younger and neither Kopitar or Doughty will play forever so how LA handles that remains to be seen Anaheim and San Jose should be wagons at some point
  4. Glad they didn't, San Jose would be much more tolerable as a wagon than Chicago, even with them being in our own division
  5. Not sure they were gonna get a better offer Edstrom was a late 1st but he's a good prospect, where the 1st lands is anyone's guess but it's still a 1st, Chrona's probably just them moving out a contract It's also not a bad big picture move, they've tethered their wagon to Saros and they're better off with the assets, this trade gives them three 1st round picks this coming draft They'll have theirs, Tampa's, and one of San Jose or Vegas's, they'll also have a couple 2nd's and a couple 3rd's Nashville can either use some of these assets to jockey for a cup while their older vets are still capable of use most of them to bolster their prospect pool so as to start developing their next core; this would help them possibly avoid a full on rebuild down the road Savvy work by Trotz imo, and by San Jose, they basically turned Hertl into cap space and Askarov
  6. Good trade for both teams, San Jose could be scary down the road
  7. Grandfathering wouldn't surprise me but I'd be disappointed With visors it was a significant change regarding how players literally saw the game, but if anything they were probably overdue Neck protection is even more of a no brainer, guess we'll see Gotta think it'd be easier to adjust to than a visor too, it's literally just another bit to wear as part of their equipment Protecting the players should be top priority for the NHL and NHLPA
  8. Maybe, and maybe the NHLPA fights it, but it's a dumb battle to fight It's not only protecting the investment of franchises, it's protecting the investment of the players For real tho
  9. I'm hoping they just make everyone wear em, visors and vision was a bigger change imo, it's so easy to wear a protective option under your jersey nowadays
  10. It'll probably happen again at the NHL level too sooner than later I'd imagine
  11. Well, he wasn't, he was drafted by a Jets franchise that's done a pretty good job staying competitive.
  12. Supposedly he didn't want to play AHL hockey, I understand why but it's another thing to dictate that you won't. Supposedly be was committed to the Uni of Michigan this coming season as a Jet but sure was quick to sign an ELC as a Penguin, that's pretty telling. Pens likely sold him on NHL time. As for not wanting Winnipeg, that's speculation on my part but most prospects aren't going to be dumb enough to just come out and say it. He didn't actually give his reasons at all weirdly enough, to anyone. It's speculated that he wasn't thrilled with how the Jets have approached the development path of other prospects. https://thehockeynews.com/nhl/winnipeg-jets/players/jets-prospect-rutger-mcgroarty-rumoured-to-be-unhappy-with-organization
  13. Hmm, not sure Panarin is a lock if he retires tomorrow. Calder, WJC gold, Gagarin cup, World Championship silver and bronze. Not nothing, but hmm. 781 points in 672 games, but does he hit 1k games? 33 in October, one year left on his deal. Does he continue to produce how he has? I think he could get there but I question his accolades even if he has the point totals thus far. Josi's won a Norris, multiple time all-star, but I'm a bit on the fence as of today. His point per game is stellar for a D, no question. Three silvers at the World Championship ain't nothing considering he plays for Switzerland though I suppose, silver at the world cup too. I could see him getting eventually if he keeps piling up points, it's rarer for D to do that. If he retired tomorrow though? Not so sure about that. The rest of the first bracket will almost certainly be hall of famers. I really, really liked Pavelski but despite his numbers he never really won anything. Even at the international level all he got was an Olympic silver. He's hall of very good imo. Jamie Benn's an odd one, I dunno. Art Ross, Olympic gold, WJC gold.. is that enough? He's at 907 points in 1112 games, if he hits 1k is that enough? Doesn't really strike me as a hall of famer but he's been on some very good international teams. Quick's three cups, two Jennings, and Conn Smythe will get him in. Olympic silver might help. Not sure about Giroux, his numbers are good but he hasn't won much either, at least not at the NHL level. WJC gold, WC gold, WCH gold, is that enough? He's kinda in Benn territory. Letang's totals and three cups get him in imo. I think O'Reilly gets there if he can bump his totals up more, which he should. Conn Smythe, cup, Selke, Lady Byng. That's enough. Couple world championship gold, world cup of hockey gold. As of today I'd have him as a more of a lock than Panarin. Backstrom's totals, cup, two world championship golds, and his Olympic silver get him in eventually. Without the cup I think it'd be more of a question mark, but I think the cup gets him over the hump. Tavares is a weird one, he hasn't won anything at the NHL level at all but he's been a regular all-star. His totals and Olympic gold, WCH gold, and two world juniors might get him over the hump. A cup would probably seal the deal but that seems unlikely to happen. Kessel barely missed 1k points but it's hard to argue with three cups, I think the iron-man streak helps him in too. Him being unique in holding that record helps the same way Marleau's having the games played record will probably help him get in (alongside two Olympic golds, WCH gold, and WC gold). Barkov is well on his way, particularly if he can win another Selke or two. Marchand's international resume and cup will get him in if he can hit 1k points imo, and there's a very good chance he does. Staal's triple gold, don't see how he doesn't, he might have to wait a little while though. Hughes will probably end up a hall of famer, Fox, Makar, Tkachuk, and Hellebuyck too. Agreed. If they can stay healthy and maintain their play they'll probably get in, I expect they'll all pick up some more NHL or international hardware before it's all said and done. Pettersson's off to a good start with a Calder and World Championship gold and has quite a bit of runway left in his career, I could see it. A Selke, Olympic gold, or cup would be a big boost. His world junior silver could help down the road. Miller, I think he'll land in the hall of very good, similar to Pavelski. He's got a smattering of junior level gold, including world junior gold, but he hasn't won anything as an adult. He'll be 32 this coming season so he's beginning to run out of time, he really needs to win some hardware if he wants to get over the hump, I don't think breaking 1k games and 1k points will be enough without gathering some high end hardware; without hardware he'll probably just be remembered as one of Vancouver's most productive players.
  14. Perhaps, but forcing your way out because you feel entitled to NHL minutes or because you don't like the fact you were drafted by x organization is pretty shit. This just screams of some entitled American kid not wanting to play in Winnipeg, wanting to force them to give him NHL minutes, or wanting to push his way out of Winnipeg in general. it's a bummer to see Canadian teams being burned by this, because he is a very good prospect. Yeah, he used the leverage he had, but perhaps he shouldn't have had that leverage to begin with. He was drafted by a good NHL team in Winnipeg, them being good and not spoon feeding him top six minutes without his having to prove himself at the NHL level shouldn't enable him to force his way out.
  15. It's a shame that it came to this in the first place, it's a privilege to be drafted at all, NHL needs to do something about this loophole
  16. Their playoff PK was a huge reason they even got to the final, they've lost some of the guys who ate up a lot of PK time for them
  17. I mean, their usual plan is to outscore their opponents anyway. They were better defensively last season than often given credit for, first couple months aside, but I question whether their roster turnover will allow them to replicate that.
  18. Solid depth guy, rooting for him, didn't seem the same after Subban hurt him
