Some folks would seemingly rather not have someone at all if he's not willing to take a team friendly deal and that's just not realistic. Even top teams have to pay full value sometimes, I don't see why paying market value has to be viewed as a loss when it's more of a norm.

I don't know about overpaying, but I see him getting 7.5-8M and I don't have a problem with it. I think the prospect of Hughes somehow setting an internal cap for D is ridiculous, players all know that contracts go up alongside the cap and that every negotiation is different. Hughes will get his in a few years, likely 12M+, I doubt he'd care.
