  1. I thought about the Kings, but Dubois is the wrinkle Not sure what cap the Rags would move out They're also fronted by Zibanejad and Trocheck has slotted in nicely
  2. It doesn't have to be 12M available though, more than likely we'd be taking cap back. Let's take a look. I could see Nashville being interested, O'Reilly is their 1C and he ain't getting any younger. Hard to say which direction Trotz wants to take the Preds. I don't view them as a likely trade partner, but you never know. Potentially Buffalo, but we'd likely be taking one of Mittlestadt or Cozens+ back. They could fit him, Thompson being on such a palatable deal helps them. But I don't see it as being a likely thing. Columbus could certainly use him, but I don't see Pettersson having any interest in the mess that's been Columbus. Potentially Carolina? Pettersson and Aho would be a nice 1-2 punch. We'd likely be asking for Svechnikov+ though. Winnipeg could use Pettersson, I don't see a Monahan extension as a sure thing and Schiefele will be 31 in March. Doubt Pettersson has any interest in Winnipeg though. Pettersson and Barkov would also be a nice 1-2 punch, he'd likely cost him less due to taxes. Hard to say what Florida does, them keeping all of their current crew seems like a stretch, they're a wildcard. Hard to say what we'd want from them though. Seattle has Beniers, Wennburg is a pending UFA. Walking away from both Eberle and Wennburg would pay for most of Pettersson. We'd be asking for Beneirs or Wright+, but maybe they'd go for it to get a 1C. Maybe Dallas? Someone to go with Hintz? Benn's deal will be up after next season, Pavelski won't play forever. Duchene is having a great year but he's 33 and isn't a long-term option up front. Maybe something around Robertson? Harley and Johnston are appealing pieces. Boston has Coyle and Zacha as their top two centers, and while they've both performed admirably Pettersson would be an upgrade. We'd probably have to take one of them back in any deal, they have trade clauses and Coyle has a NMC, but who knows. Boston has limited trade assets though, probably not an ideal trade partner. Strome has played well for Washington but they need a top six center something fierce. They have the Backstrom LTIR, and his deal is up entirely after next season. Hard to say what we'd want from them though. If Minnesota didn't have another season of 14M+ in dead cap space ahead of them I'd list them, but they do. Tampa could opt to let Stamkos walk and try to trade for Pettersson but it seems extremely unlikely given he's a franchise icon. Cernak and Hagel are interesting pieces. Vegas has Eichel, but never count them out.
  3. I just don't see it, Anaheim would be better off being patient too imo I think plenty of teams could pay Pettersson, in fact I think there's a stronger chance the Canucks would be taking a sizeable amount of cap back (in the form of positive value player/players) to facilitate a Pettersson trade I see Pettersson as wanting to get paid on a playoff team, more than likely he does that here imo
  4. Regarding Anaheim, the thing that immediately jumps out is why would Pettersson sign with a rebuilding Ducks team if he wants to win? Pettersson will get paid wherever he goes, that's not a question, he will. Anaheim offers money and that chance to be relatively anonymous, but it'd take more than Pettersson to turn that Ducks team into a playoff team, let alone a contender. The caveat to any Pettersson trade is that he has to be willing to sign there or the deal is dead before negotiations even begin. The Canucks have limited trade power because of this, they'd have to deal with a team Pettersson would commit long-term to. There'd likely be no shortage of interest in Pettersson if he were available, but one could probably cut the list of potential landing spots down pretty quickly. More than likely Pettersson wants to get paid to play with a competitive group, that ain't Anaheim and probably won't be til their youth develop more. Anaheim will go as far as their youngsters can take them, and I like Anaheim's youth and prospect pool.
  5. Sens don't need Pettersson at all, in fact they have a surplus of talented centers Stutzle and Norris are signed long-term, Pinto has 13 points in 15 games Offense is not where the Sens need help, trading Brady makes zero sense for them
  6. Kings, Knights, and Oil may all be looking to add
  7. Preds won't move Saros so long as they're in the hunt, which leaves fewer big ticket tenders available https://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/2854667/report-predators-wont-trade-saros-while-in-playoff-spot
  8. That's a fair take, I don't particularly care if Pettersson waits til the end of the season to sign either. Players are individuals, they're going to do what they feel is best for them, Pettersson is doing that. It's not Pettersson's job to figure shit out for the Canucks, he's looking out for him. Is that selfish? Sure, but most people are on some level and it's not an insignificant commitment. Player careers go by quickly, top players only really hit the negotiation crossroads a few times. A medium or long term deal isn't an insignificant commitment. Mind you I'm not really looking at this from more of a Canuck-centric view, I don't have an issue with players chasing the bag. More power to them, someone's gonna earn that money. I also don't expect stars to take discounts, or to leave dollars on the table, most of the time they don't. Not just as a Canucks, but around the league in general. Every fanbase wants their players to take team friendly deals, but it doesn't usually go that way. Players are in the business to get paid, it is what it is.
  9. That's fair, I'm not overly worried about it either I don't care if Pettersson is selfish in wanting to wait, it's whatever, management will just have to deal Yeah, it puts a bit of a damper on their deadline flexibility because they don't know what their cap outlook will look like further down the line, but I'm of the opinion that they shouldn't be making any more large moves anyway Hronek and Zadorov can wait, if Zadorov really wants to stay it'll get done regardless I still put Pettersson in the Hughes bracket, nobody was expecting Miller to fall off sooner than later but I still view Pettersson as the guy who will drive things forward as Miller ages and declines
  10. Can we bump that number up a bit If we can get everyone to escalate we can probably get this thread to 300 pages before something happens The big, red, shiny panic button doesn't appeal to you?
  11. On a scale of one to ten how much are we panicking today?
  12. For real though It's hard to look at that roster and see a forward who leads by example more than Tuch
  13. The reasons teams would want Tuch are the exact reasons why Buffalo likely keeps him. He's probably their next captain.
  14. I mean, we knew from the get go that he wasn't interested in negotiating in season, it's the media and fans spurring this thing into a frenzy. Management likely knew where he was at, frustrating stance for them or not. At the end of the day we simply don't know, we're all talking out of our asses. Does the Pettersson domino hold up other subsequent moves? Probably. Is it Pettersson's job to manage the Canucks organization? Nah, it's his job to look out for him. Will that frustrate some folks and have them deeming him selfish? Sure.
  15. Lolwut, why would Pettersson sign with a rebuilding Ducks team? More than likely Pettersson doesn't just want to be on a winning team, he wants to get paid too. Anaheim, while providing anonymity and money, doesn't provide Pettersson with a competitive landing spot. Let's be real, it'd take a lot more than Pettersson to turn that Ducks team into a playoff team let alone a contender, and I like Anaheim's crop of prospects and young NHL'ers.
  16. They don't even need Pettersson, they have Stutzle who makes quite a but less than Pettersson will I get why Canucks fans would want Tkachuk but this move makes zero sense for Ottawa They don't need centers, they have Stutzle, Norris, and Pinto
  17. You're not wrong, but I'll be surprised if they do Guess time will tell I'm actually hoping they have success at rebuilding/retooling, the Calgary and Edmonton games are more fun when the other team can legitimately compete imo Beating on them during the Sedin era was fun but the rivalry is more fun when both teams are actually good
  18. Meh, I think Weegar and Andersson stay. Possibly Markstrom too, it depends on what teams offer. Everyone else is probably on the table. I've heard that teams have poked at Andersson but I've yet to hear anything regarding Weegar. I think Calgary tries to retain Andersson, I don't think they're interested in moving Weegar. Someone's gotta play NHL level defense for them. Both defenseman can help bring prospects and young NHL'ers along. As I said, Calgary's probably in for some pain, but even rebuilding teams typically opt to keep some veteran presence around. I understand that these are pieces that hold trade value, but I'm not expecting Calgary to go scorched earth.
  19. He may not come cheap, the Jeannot trade could throw a wrench into the price when it comes to this type of player Which isn't to say teams will go as nuts as Tampa did, likely not, but teams may ask more for guys who are viewed as "playoff type" players now
