  1. Perhaps, I was speaking to his season average. He's probably still viewed as top 4D though on the market, and as I pointed out earlier there are limited options available as far as defensemen go. There's quite a drop off after a few marquee names, two of which may not even be available in Hanifin and Chychrun.
  2. Wouldn't surprise me. Walker's pretty much playing top four minutes though, he's averaging between 19.5 minutes a night thus far on a Philly team that's actually been quite solid defensively (11th goals allowed, 4th SOG allowed, 2nd PK). It's Philly's offensive game and lack of discipline that hurts them, outside of their shots on goal, which ranks 4th.
  3. He's intriguing given he's on a retained salary contract. 1.75M cap hit, big rugged D. 30 year-old. He could shake loose if the Caps throw in the towel, there'd be lots of interest given his cap hit if they do. He's averaging just over 16 minutes a game thus far, would probably fit nicely on a playoff team's bottom pairing as a 5D who could potentially play higher. Could probably get the Caps a 2nd.
  4. Limited options out there for D. Tanev, maybe Hanifin, maybe Chychrun, maybe Provorov, there's a drop off after that. Seeler, Broberg, Peeke, Boqvist, maybe DeAngelo, maybe Barrie. Lyubuskin. Johnson, maybe Jokijarju. Edmundson. Probably missing some names, but limited options given how many teams are still in the playoff hunt in both conferences. Maybe a few teams fold and more names become available, maybe it ends up being a sellers market. If Calgary and Ottawa retain Hanifin/Chychrun the pickings get slimmer. Solid chance they do, Calgary seems more set on retooling than rebuilding and Ottawa wants to be competitive.
  5. You say that, but there were folks around here saying Monahan wouldn't fetch a 1st too. Trade deadline is a ways away, lot could change between now and then, all it'd take is a few top teams getting D injuries. If the Flames extend Hanifin instead of flipping him that'll also shift things, he's the biggest D fish out there despite the smoke around Tanev.
  6. Hard to say, I'm not gonna pretend I'm a tax expert, but my limited understanding tells me that it could make things trickier for Canadian teams going forward if the CRA gets what they want. But if the CRA is involved they're not gonna give a shit whether Tavares is a hockey player or not, they wont play favourites imo. There's also the question of what kind of legal precedent allowing Tavares to win such an appeal would set for other high income earners, but that's out of my scope of knowledge.
  7. “I think that we are coming to the end of the line with this ownership group, I believe there isn’t something hard and fast in place in the very near future. They will begin the process of selling the team or the NHL taking over the team and selling it to someone else, I believe we will get there. I believe one of the reasons you hear the commissioner say nothing negative about them is he knows this could end up in a big legal fight and he doesn’t want to say or do anything that will end being used against him."
  8. Seems like a high ask but it could be a sellers market for D this season
  9. We're undefeated since @Ribs gave us the giraffe emoji

    1. Drive-By Body Pierce

      Drive-By Body Pierce

And Edmonton and Toronto are winless!

  10. I don't think HOF standards are perhaps what they once were, point totals dipped for a while but we've seen an uptick in offense in recent years. By more modern standards I think he gets in. I think he'll absolutely hit 1k, he'd have to fall off a cliff or not play beyond next season not to. 47 points in 50 games thus far, he's still very productive. I'd be surprised if he doesn't play beyond next season. If he plays beyond next season he could get closer to 1.1k, it really depends on how long he wants to play. He's still a very effective two-way player and Boston will likely keep him around as long as he wants to play. COVID robbed him though, absolutely. As for the Selke, dunno, it's a wide open race this season with Bergeron gone and he could be in the mix. He's almost point per game and could get reputation votes. Barkov is also in that camp. But even without one he'd probably get in. As I said before, I think his international success gets him over the hump. If he didn't have a cup he may not get in, but he has one. International success is a big one
  11. If you want to be a sacrificial lamb that badly you can go too, it'd be weird to have just one of you and @HKSR around anyway
  12. He'll almost certainly be a hall of famer, he won't be a first ballot guy but he'll get in. 909 career points but he's signed for next season as well, I expect he'll also sign an extension when his current deal is up. Could very well break 1k. 47 points in 50 games thus far, hard to imagine he couldn't at least be a 50 point guy for another couple seasons. 3 more games and he'll be a 1k guy. Marchand doesn't have the individual hardware of a lot of the guys in the hall, but he has a cup and he's got longevity on his side. What will actually get him in is his international resume though. World cup of hockey gold, world championship gold, two world junior golds, u18 gold. He may get a shot at Olympic gold yet, if the league hadn't flubbed things there's a good chance he'd already have one. It's not inconceivable that he could win a Selke too. Some Canucks fans can't let go, but Marchand has consistently won at a high level.
  13. Seems morbid but it's been a pleasure, I wish you all the best at your trade destination.
  14. Seems optimistic, but that's fair. My take is the following. Hart will be MacKinnon or Kucherov, hopefully MacKinnon. The Canucks have largely been healthy this season, the Avs less so, that works against Hughes imo. MacKinnon has picked up the slack despite having Makar and Rantanen as running mates, he is the driver on that team. Same goes for Kucherov, Tampa probably wouldn't even be in the playoff picture if not for Kucherov. If they make the playoffs he's probably at least the runner up. Art Ross will probably be one of the aforementioned unless McDavid goes on an absolute tear. Calder is anyone's guess, Bedard isn't a shoe in given he's been out. Masterton could be a lot of guys, probably not a Canuck. I'm less confident about our winning a western final or a cup final, I'm not going to chime in on those and will stick to individual awards. Same goes for Conn Smythe. At this point it's wishful thinking. Selke's a weird one, Bergeron not being in the mix opens it up for a lot of players. Pettersson could win it, but I wouldn't call it a slam dunk. Being a runner up could give him leverage to win one going forward. Canucks have a good shot at the Jack Adams, but lots of season left. What Boston's managed this season is also impressive, Florida too. Winnipeg could also be in the mix. If the Canucks can avoid losing skids I think Tochett could take it. Norris I'm less sure about, Makar is the bigger name leaguewide and their point totals are close. I'm less convinced by the +/- argument than some. It'll be one of Hughes or Makar and they should both split votes. I think Hughes could win it but I'm not gonna call it. I think the Allvin gets the Jim Gregory, what he's managed to do is impressive. I think Pettersson gets the Lady Byng. Could be Matthews though, he's the bigger name leaguewide. King Clancy is a tough one to predict, not gonna bother. Lot of solid player initiatives around the league. Could see Pasta or MacKinnon winning the Messier. Matthews probably gets the Rocket. I think Hellebuyck wins the Vezina despite Demko having a fantastic year. Would love to be wrong, as of today Hellebuyck would probably win it. We have a good shot at the Jennings, but it's not a runaway thing. Boston's right behind us and Edmonton is actually right there too, but they have games in hand. Pittsburgh and LA are right there too, but also games in hand. Winnipegis the frontrunner for it at this point, they're 1st in goals allowed. https://www.statmuse.com/nhl/ask?q=nhl+team+goals+against+2023-24 Mac gets the Ted Lindsay imo. Only award I'd really definitively call for the Canucks at this point is the Jim Gregory.
  15. You may be right, the +/- argument is indicative of positive individual play but it's also a team statistic and I'm less certain about it mattering at the end of the day Makar has the more storied career and he's already a media favourite, if their point totals finish close together I will not be shocked to see Makar win
  16. It's a shame we don't play the Leafs again this season, a "pay your taxes" chant would be great Hopefully another team runs with it
  17. Saw that, implications for Canadian teams could be hefty https://nationalpost.com/news/canada/john-tavares-cra-tax-fight-8-million
  18. So what you're telling me is Quinn Hughes contract extension will be 13-14m+x8 e5
