Coyotes are five points out of a playoff spot instead of being in the basement with San Jose and Chicago They're in tough to make it imo but they've kept themselves in the mix That's a competitive team, albeit not a surefire playoff team or contender But the bar has been pretty low for them, being regularly competitive at all is a step forward The Coyotes are a circus and should be moved, but the hockey ops side has arguably done a solid job this season

[Waivers] Axel Jonsson-Fjallby

He very well could This time round he's more a victim of Winnipeg's bottom six depth, Jets are a good team Doesn't mean he isn't a capable bottom six player Scheifele is healthy, someone was gonna have to go -
I don't disagree, but almost every team in the league could use a guy like him Guys who play a rougher game but who can also pot 20+ goals aren't very common Hits quite a bit, good for 1-4 fights a year throughout his NHL career, bit of a scoring touch I don't think we'll be looking for sizeable top six contracts for a while though unless we can't retain Lindholm If the Canucks add beef it'll probably be in the bottom six again

I'm not sure why they wouldn't have just plucked him off waivers, but it sounds like he could probably get league minimum somewhere -
Market may be waiting on Tanev to set the bar so to speak, lot of teams are interested. I mention all this because in talking to a few teams this week, there’s a sense right now that Chris Tanev might have a similar hold on the rental D market and how those dominoes fall. There’s serious interest in Tanev but only one team can get him. The feeling is once he goes, then teams will circle back on the likes of rental defensemen like Sean Walker, Alexandre Carrier, Tyson Barrie, Ilya Lyubushkin and Nick Seeler. Again, as I reported last week, the sense is the Flames want a second-round pick plus another asset for Tanev, although if you’re a team like the Maple Leafs without a second-round pick for the next three years, I’m confident still in saying Toronto’s price to pay on Tanev is a first-round pick. I just don’t know if that’s a price Leafs GM Brad Treliving will want to pay or not. And if he does, I would imagine he would have some level of confidence he can re-sign Tanev before July 1. https://theathletic.com/5254692/2024/02/06/nhl-trades-islanders-tanev-lebrun/

Three more seasons remaining at 4.3M for a Coyotes club that's shown they're serious about trying to be competitive. Doesn't make sense for them to move him if they actually want to compete. Not sure we could afford him anyway, players of his sort aren't common and he's prime aged. If he were available much of the league would be inquiring.

I doubt he'd be up for AHL hockey, most guys at almost 36 probably aren't interested in swapping first class NHL travel and accommodation for AHL bussing and standard hotel accommodations He'd probably accept an NHL spot somewhere -

Jets fans like him as a bottom six energy guy who provides speed and a solid forecheck Jets admittedly have some pretty solid bottom six depth, they don't have the Canucks top end point producers but they have depth throughout the lineup https://www.capfriendly.com/depth-charts/jets -

Scheifele is healthy so they needed to move someone, but Jets fans would rather not lose him https://illegalcurve.com/winnipeg-jets-activate-mark-scheifele-off-ir-put-ajf-on-waivers/
