  1. Huge point, hopefully they can grab two Shocking how they've gone 1/8 on the powerplay though
  2. Could be You'll probs be right, I do expect we'll have a losing stretch at some point too, divisional match ups will be big We've also been uncharacteristically healthy this season I am unabashedly rooting for Mac to win the Hart and Art Ross, Kucherov can screw off I hope he has another big night
  3. I could see the Oil passing Vegas I reckon LA makes it, but it'll probably be via a wildcard unless they go on a heater or two
  4. I thought losing Eichel would hurt them more but they've actually had a pretty solid stretch They actually have more significant injuries than I'd have guessed
  5. Vegas keeps on trucking, Rangers haven't been as good during January
  6. He comes with a complimentary $7,371,794 in dead cap space to a divisional rival
  7. True that, maybe he'll give them what they were hoping they had in Tatar
  8. It's a confirmed signing https://www.nhl.com/avalanche/news/colorado-avalanche-sign-zach-parise
  9. He was solid for the Isles last season, 21 goals and 34 points, bit surprised though considering the season is more than half over. Wants one last crack at a cup I suppose. Wonder if we hear this kind of news about Kessel sooner than later.

  11. It's a good question, I'm wondering if more doesn't come out
  12. Can't trust the media not to try and break a story though, if he actually said he's done he's in a bit of a tough spot
  13. Of those players I think Henrique and Vatrano might be the most likely I could see another team willing to pay more for Lindholm and I reckon Guentzel extends in Pittsburgh, I'm not convinced Calgary's interested in trading us a 2C either, it's a bit different than trading us a 5D in Zadorov Vatrano is a bit younger but he'll be 30 in March, whereas Henrique will be 34 on February 6th and would probably be more of a rental Vatrano has four more points but one more game played in comparison I still think Lindholm to Washington makes a lot of sense
  14. https://www.tsn.ca/bruising-forward-wayne-simmonds-calls-time-on-nhl-career-i-m-done-1.2068186#:~:text="I haven't officially announced,I had a great career After 15 hard-nosed NHL seasons where he filled the net and threw plenty of fists, Wayne Simmonds has called time on his playing career. The 35-year-old spoke to The Canadian Press on Friday ahead of the Hockey Diversity Alliance's first-ever WinterFest event scheduled for Feb. 3 in Toronto. With three kids under the age of five — his wife, Crystal, gave birth to the couple's first son two months ago — he has a lot on his plate. Getting one more NHL shot isn't among the long list of priorities. "I haven't officially announced my retirement, but I'm done," said Simmonds, who played his final three seasons with the Maple Leafs. "I had a great career. It was the best time I've ever had in my life. "Right now, it's family time." Simmonds put up 263 goals, 526 points and 1,313 penalty minutes in 1,037 games with six teams. He added 22 points (eight goals, 14 assists) and 122 penalty minutes in 53 playoff appearances. The Toronto native played his first three years with the Los Angeles Kings after being selected in the second round of the 2007 NHL draft, but made his mark over eight seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers. One of the league's premier power forwards during that era, Simmonds scored 28 or more goals five times, including a career-high 32 in 2015-16. Never afraid to drop the gloves, the bruising winger also had a career-high 147 penalty minutes that season. Simmonds went on to have short stints with Nashville, Buffalo and New Jersey before signing in Toronto ahead of the pandemic-shortened 2020-21 campaign. "Nice to be able to play at home," he said. "It was nice to be able to have my two little girls watch me play. They're from Toronto, they're born in Toronto, they're gonna be raised in Toronto." Simmonds, however, wishes things had turned out differently on the ice. He played 72 times in 2021-22, but suited up for just 18 games last season in a trying year that included getting placed on waivers. "From the playing aspect, it wasn't what I hoped," said Simmonds, who registered 27 points and 190 penalty minutes in 128 contests with Toronto. "At the same time, I'm still grateful to the organization for allowing me to put on the Maple Leaf. "That's an iconic jersey. It's something that I'll never forget." The HDA, which is not affiliated with the NHL, is holding WinterFest at Toronto's Trinity Bellwoods on Feb. 3 to highlight "the importance of diversity and inclusion in hockey." Set to coincide with the league's all-star festivities in the city, the event is slated to include a celebrity hockey game, youth competitions and a skills showcase. "It's gonna be something special," said Simmonds, a founding HDA member. "We want to showcase what we've been able to do the last three years. We want to show the unconventional ways that we've been able to reach the communities that we've reached." Looking back on what would turn out to be his final NHL season, Simmonds said he feels for Leafs enforcer Ryan Reaves, who signed a three-year contract in the summer but has been used sparingly. "You want nothing more than to play well and help the guys out," he said. "If you're not doing that, you feel kind of lost. (Reaves) had a little bit of a tough time at the beginning of the season, but I don't think he got too many opportunities to actually be able to do what he can do. "That's just me knowing how it happened for me. Feel like it's going much the same for him." Simmonds, however, still looks back on his time with the Leafs fondly. While he didn't suit up in last spring's playoffs, he was at Amalie Arena when John Tavares scored the overtime winner in Game 6 against the Tampa Bay Lightning to clinch Toronto's first series victory since 2004. The veteran forward skipped down the hall in front of reporters on the way to celebrate with his teammates that night. "To be there with the guys in the dressing room and feel what they're feeling — the pressure — and finally being able to get past the first round, it's pretty special," Simmonds said. "Incumbent upon them to get a little bit further every year and win a Stanley Cup. "Or else winning one round is not going to mean much."
  15. I've mentioned that I think there's a solid chance we bring Myers back in the past, it's usually resulted in some pushback and doesn't seem to be a popular opinion. But for conversation's sake I'll go over it again. Myers is a guy with a lengthy history of playing as a top 4D. He's good depth in a 5-6 role, and seems to do better when he's not asked to do as much. But yeah, he's a guy who can absolutely step up and play top 4 in the event of injuries. He brings an element of size. He's a known quantity who knows the systems, players, culture, and so on. He's shown a willingness to play physical, engage in scrums, ect. He's not awful offensively by any stretch, in fact he's third on the team in points from a D with 15 points thus far. He's an established presence in the room. He's likely to want to stay, there's a chance the Canucks could get him for less than other teams. He's demonstrated a willingness to try and mentor young players, as demonstrated by him trying to help Virtanen in the past. He's an RD, and I'm not convinced Zadorov is the better overall player. Myers has gotten a lot of grief from Canucks fans over the years while making 6M, but if he makes less going forward folks should also lower their expectations a bit. He wouldn't be a bad veteran to keep around. He's looked better under Tochett, when surrounded by a competent D core.
  16. I think Tanev coming back as a UFA is much more likely, if only because we'll have had cap come off the books and perhaps had an easier time unloading cap. Would be easier to move a cap hit like Garland out when points aren't currently on the line for other teams. Just overall more flex in the offseason. At that time we'll presumably know what we're paying Pettersson and Hronek too. Right now he's a luxury, and as much as folks say we need to address this or that, most teams aren't going to have surplus depth at all positions within the constraints of the salary cap system. It's just not realistic. Teams have to really hone in on what their biggest weakness is, right now it seems pretty obvious that that's our second line.

  18. Kings need a longer term solution in net, but I wouldn't count them out just yet. They've been on a helluva slide, but they've also shown they're capable of going on winning runs. Lot of season left, I still think they make the playoffs. Still wouldn't wanna face em round 1 if they can nab a tender like Saros.
