All the wise asses who hyped the LA Kings pre collapse
Coconuts replied to Blue's topic in General Hockey Discussion
Kings need a longer term solution in net, but I wouldn't count them out just yet. They've been on a helluva slide, but they've also shown they're capable of going on winning runs. Lot of season left, I still think they make the playoffs. Still wouldn't wanna face em round 1 if they can nab a tender like Saros. -
Eh, if you see it that way I respect it. But I don't see players, particularly top players who've spent lots of time with a single franchise, not wanting to leave as a lack of character. I remember seeing that we should trade the twins because it could have accomplished the same, I was always against it. Hank never had any interest in leaving either, despite never winning a cup as a Canuck and our being mediocre at the time. Crosby's been a Penguin through a lot of highs, I could very easily see him taking a similar approach to Henrik and Daniel through the lows. Some argue that he's a winner who wants to win more cups, I'd agree with part of that. Crosby is a winner, he's won pretty much everything he can, and he wants to win, the key difference is I reckon he wants to try to continue winning as a Penguin. Letang just re-upped for another four years, Malkin was never going to play elsewhere and signed for another couple years. If Fluery hadn't been traded he'd probably have agreed to stick in Pittsburgh too. I don't see why Crosby would leave when his longtime running mates have chosen to stay. Crosby isn't going to sit on his laurels, he's showing that this season, but I just don't see him leaving either. Three cups is more than most players win, but that doesn't mean he's going to stop trying as mentioned above. But I reckon that he'll continue trying as a Penguin. All players want to win at the end of the day. I think Guentzel cannibalizes Jeff Carter's cap space and ends up staying. I think there's a better chance he stays than there is of him leaving. Maybe, but I think Crosby would stay nonetheless. The rebuild post-Crosby/Malkin/Letang was always going to be ugly, no bones about it, but after everything those three have accomplished as Pens I think they're also in a place as an organization that they'd happily let all three ride out their twilight years as Penguins. If they are trending towards a rebuild, drafting in the middle of the pack, and placing emphasis on integrating prospects than I'd argue they'd be hard pressed to find better mentors for the next wave of Penguins than Crosby, Malkin, and Letang. Maybe, but more than likely Dubas knew coming in that he was getting into this sort of scenario. Dubas is the GM but what those three players mean to the Pittsburgh franchise is on another level imo, how many trios have seen a single franchise through so much success? Their legacy in Pittsburgh has been cemented since their back to back cup wins. I don't think he will, nor do I think he should. Seeing Crosby in another NHL uniform would be wrong. They may not be a contender over the remainder of Crosby's career but I do reckon moving on and being more of a playoff hopeful would still involve them icing Crosby, Malkin, and Letang.

I don't think the importance of that can be understated Grief is different for everyone, he seems to be in a better place now -

Roughly 1M would be modest, 7.5M wouldn't even be a full 1M Brock will benefit from two cap jumps, this offseason's and likely next I agree that it's best not to pay for outliers, but as the cap rises so will contracts, a rising cap raises all ships so to speak Except top six players, starters, and top 4D will always eat up more of the pie Sometimes it's better to look at contracts in terms of cap percentage, Guentzel's 6M isn't the same as what it was when he first signed his extension for example Doubtful, unless you think he'll be asking for the moon Boeser will almost certainly get a raise if he stays, or of he goes, it is what it is You don't have to be a play driver to be valuable, you need complimentary guys who can produce as well -

Players get paid based on results, and sometimes potential, not what if's Top 6 players with skill produce with other high caliber players, that's not news Guentzel has still be paid handsomely to play alongside Crosby for example, and given he's due for a raise, likely will be again -

Players are frequently paid on what they've done recently, if he follows this season up with another 30 goal season or two you're probably looking at closer to 8 But yeah, with the cap rising the asking price for UFA top 6 wingers, or pending UFA top 6 wingers, probably goes up alongside it Something in the mid 7's really wouldn't be much of a jump I don't expect players to pay things back, which isn't to say I don't think Brock wouldn't be more likely to play ball with the Canucks than other UFA wingers of similar caliber -

I could see it Maybe, but that ain't generally how it goes with higher profile UFA's If he hit the market as a UFA there'd be lots of interest -

I don't think there's any saving his job at this point, he's had a long tenure at the helm of a bottom feeder He'd be a great add but it's very unlikely he's moved If Columbus wants to shift their culture he'll be needed there -

I think he'll get more but I also think his ask won't be outrageous, Brock strikes me as someone who'd genuinely want to stay so it's unlikely we'd get a better deal from a UFA top 6 winger I think we keep him over Kuzmenko, even if I do think there's a good chance his goal scoring comes back down closer to his career average -

Could see him being canned before the draft tbh, but realistically he should be canned before any larger trades are made -

Boeser's also due for a raise pretty quick -
Yes and no. Yes, our 1st is likely to be middling at best and folks are probably overestimating it's trade value. No, it's not basically going to be a 2nd rounder. Things wouldn't have to blow up, even making a conference final isn't easy. There's a better chance of us going out in the first or second round than there is we go on some sort of fairytale run. Unless a deal makes a lot of sense long term we shouldn't be trading 1sts though.
