  1. Wouldn't surprise me, they they could probably at least be third or fourth liners. Maybe not all of them, but maybe one or two. I just don't see that as a model, but we're probably arguing semantics. Every team in the league wants to improve it's roster and it's obvious to any Canucks fan who's watched the two seasons prior to this one that our defense needed a boost. Management brought in some D to do just that and tried to integrate a coaching staff who could put the puzzle pieces together, that's not revolutionary, if anything it just speaks to how inept the previous regime was. Some of the credit also has to be laid at the feet of the players, not just management and the coaching staff. Demko looks better because he has been better, because he's put in the work. Hughes also put in the work to improve his game and he's transformed into this team's most important player in doing so. Pettersson put in the work and gambled on himself, Boeser has been able to bounce back and reach new heights. Miller's reeled in his temper and is less frequently caught making the boneheaded mistakes he was making last season. Depth guys have stepped up and mitigated Kuzmenko and Mikheyev being disappointing offensively, gotta credit their hard work.
  2. If management agrees with some posters round these parts and sees this season as a single season window that opens up into another window a little later, it may be that they decide to pony up. If they do, I don't think there are too many players, picks, and prospects they won't be willing to part with. Instrumental guys probably don't go, the team will want to get stronger, not weaker. But yeah, I just don't see Lekkerimaki or Willander being available, pretty sure management has them pegged as being RFA's who could have a decent NHL impact at a young age. Stars right off the hop? Probably not, but the best way to get high end players on your roster is to draft, develop, and integrate them.
  3. The Vancouver model? Vancouver just finally has a bit of depth at all positions and a coach staff implementing solid systems, dunno if I'd call that a model. I'd be a little surprised if any of our coaches left this quickly too, they haven't been around long. Maybe Foote could be a head coach down the line, but I don't think it'd be sooner than later. Foote was announced as an assistant coach on Jan 22nd, 2023, pretty sure it's his first NHL assistant coach gig too despite having worked as a defensive coach for the Avs in the past. As for UFA's, the cost of being a good team who doesn't win a championship is players wanting to get paid, on some level it is what it is. There's a solid chance our depth takes a hit next season though due to cap reasons, management may have to integrate some of our RFA prospects.
  4. I'm more impressed by what Winnipeg's done since the beginning of December though, they're better built than Edmonton and have a better chance of going deep imo.
  5. Over their past 13 games? There's an argument for it. Their goaltending and defensive stats have been very good. Will they finish as the league's best team? Probably not. But they're not on the run they're on only simply because they're scoring goals.
  6. I don't like burning picks but I could see management being willing to move the following if the right deal came along 2024 1st 2025 1st 2025 2nd Middle and lower picks Kuzmenko Garland Mikheyev Hoglander Joshua Myers McDonough Podkolzin Raty Bains Kudryavtsev Pettersson Silovs Any lesser prospects I think as far as prospects go it'd only really be Lekkerimaki and Willander being off limits But like I said, it'd take the right deal, which doesn't mean the Canucks are shopping any of these pieces or actually interested in moving them out Gotta give to get at the end of the day though, particularly if they want to add someone of higher caliber, teams will be asking for things we probably would prefer to keep if we're asking about players like Guentzel, Lindholm, ect
  7. It's a big gap but they've played five fewer games than us and Vegas Van 68 in 47 Vegas 60 in 47 Edmonton 53 in 42 Short of us going on a losing streak there's not much to worry about, but they could absolutely catch Vegas while Eichel is out All three teams look to have similarly challenging schedules over the second half, Edmonton might have a slightly easier list of opponents but not by much The real question mark is whether LA can rebound, their roster should be performing better than it has been, even their loss last night was more about Kahkonen standing on his head than anything Saved 44/47, San Jose has 20 fewer shots Gotta wonder whether LA looks to bolster it's tending at some point
  8. Motte has trouble staying healthy unfortunately, don't think I'd go back down that road
  9. Tough go, just can't stay healthy
  10. Yeah, Perry was never restricted from playing in the NHL, what occurred in Chicago was related more to team rules and the contract both sides had in place, so contract law There were no NHL level sanctions in place and it was Perry who requested the meeting with Bettman https://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/nhl/corey-perry-eligible-to-sign-1.7080222
  11. I didn't like him as a Duck, he was a huge pain in the ass even before considering his skill I've liked him since tho
  12. He'd be a great add, but it seems unlikely he'd want to leave Ottawa, he wanted to go home Post-Florida he could have gone many places, to competitive teams even, he chose to go to a team that wasn't good at that point so I don't see why the status quo for the Sens this season would change that https://theathletic.com/3420245/2022/07/13/senators-claude-giroux-signing-free-agency-nhl/
  13. Agreed, but I doubt Ek is available, Minny would be dumb to move him and they're already short on quality centers I think Ottawa is figuring out something with Pinto
  14. From CBJ? Maybe, with Fantilli he may not be as necessary there I don't disagree, doubt Calgary wants to trade us Lindholm either and I won't be surprised if Guentzel extends
  15. He strikes me as a skill guy, but Sabres have a lot of those, could be an issue of having too many similar players? He's mid 20's though, 25, 39 points in 46 games Pending RFA, gotta deal with the raise though, 59 in 82 last season Won't come cheap to pay or acquire imo
