  1. I just hope we continue to see more of the first half of Penguins tenure Jim than the second half version, you'll get mixed takes on Rutherford from Pens fans despite the cups
  2. Dunno, if both teams were really equal healthwise come playoff time I'd still take 2010-2011 That's the caveat of that cup run for me, by the time we got to the final we were so beat up that it was more of a cup stumble, and then we took even more of a beating in the final health wise I know that the playoffs are a grind, but at the end of the day the best team didn't win that year, the healthier one did Although Thomas was nuts on the ice, there's no denying that
  3. 2010-2011 team would beat this one imo
  4. Vegas and LA should be nervous, Oil stars are driving them up the standings
  5. It's wild to me that one of the top producing seasons of all time for the country of Sweden, a top 15 all-time season, came from a D in the 2022-2023 season. Squirrely fanbase is squirrelly, it's just now that we're a competitive team it's a different kind of squirrelly.
  6. Dunno how many center options will be out there, I mention Winnipeg because when they were at their best over the past 6-7 years they were big and skilled. They could use a D boost, but it's hard to argue with what they've accomplished thus far. They'd want a center with term or who's willing to stay too, which complicates things. That probably means they won't be poking at Lindholm. Maybe Henrique, but he's not a longer-term option or even a great one. They could poke at Zegras, but he's injured and hasn't done much this season. Maybe Jenner, but he's injured and has an 8-team NTC. Doubt Hertl would waive his NMC for Winnipeg. They could try Monahan. There just aren't a whole lot of quality centers out there who are definitively available. Might have to settle for an upgrade on the wing, similar to us. Things could change but there are a lot of teams in each conference jockeying for the 8-6 spots, if that continues there may just not be as many sellers.
  7. Was only a matter of time, beats letting him walk for nothing If Ottawa retain 50%, and they should, he could fit a lot on a lot of teams Probs returns a 1st at 50% Could see a team like Winnipeg having interest
  8. I'm more receptive to tinkering around the edges than big splashes as well Although I understand why others want to push the chips in I'd rather keep building for a longer window, just making the playoffs has this season being a success imo I'd welcome a cup but I also don't expect one
  9. Good for him One of the things that sucked about his career being short due to something genetic was his not being able to walk away from the game he loves on his own terms Even if he returns to just play AHL hockey, he'd have the opportunity to do just that Rooting for him to make it
  10. Probably. Sure, but Pittsburgh could use the cap space opened up by Guentzel too, they could use him as their own rental. I don't think Pittsburgh is hard pressed to pay him, it's whether they want to or not. If they keep him more than likely Guentzel just cannibalizes Jeff Carter's 3.125M. Considering how little Carter's brought this season it's not as if he couldn't be replaced on the cheap. Guentzel is really the only Penguin who's due for a sizeable raise this offseason. There were reportedly teams poking around Kuzmenko agreed, but I'd argue they were probably teams looking to be opportunistic and buy low. If I as a Canuck fan can point at Kuzmenko's numbers last season and recognize he was due to regress than the management of NHL organizations should be able to do the same. At this point I don't imagine there are too many NHL head offices who think Kuzmenko is the 39 goal scorer he was last season given his unsustainable shooting percentage, if anything he's probably closer to the player we've seen. At best he's maybe somewhere in the middle imo. I don't think Kuzmenko is worthless by any stretch, but I do believe his value has almost certainly taken a hit. Should have sold high on him last season. Some might argue sophomore slump, I'd argue that he's going to be 28 in February and that he should be far along enough in his career to avoid something like that. I view him more as simply having been a better fit for Bruce's free wheeling offense than he is Tocchet's more structured systems. I don't have it out for Kuzmenko or anything like that, I think there's just a good chance he may have had his career season right off the hop. I do think that when the Canucks look to add in their top six that it'll be Kuzmenko who ends up going the other way as part of a deal though.
  11. Crosby's a bit of an odd duck though and it'd be stupid for anyone to try and use his cap hit as a comparison. Why? Because he's fixated on the number 87, he doesn't care to make more at this point. Crosby's cap hit has been 8,700,00 since 08-09, across two separate deals. Next season will be his 17th season in a row making 8,700,000. Wanna guess what cap hit any extension likely comes in at? I'd bet on more 8,700,000. You've mentioned Matthew Tkachuk, I'd point out that Nylander's actually been pretty solid come playoff time too. McDavid has also historically stepped up, let's not pretend otherwise, he's put up 75 points in 49 playoff games. But I don't actually have a problem with top players getting paid, top players have always gotten paid, even before the cap was thing. For example, Joe Sakic made 7.2M back in 01-02 when that was more money than it is now. My take is it's not the job of players to sort out a team's cap space, that's why management get paid to figure that stuff out. I don't expect stars to take less, they usually don't. Rutherford and Allvin get paid handsomely to deal with the cap stuff, cap constraints aren't new and haven't been for a while, on some level it simply is what it is.
  12. With Eichel out it could happen, like LA Vegas has been treading water of late. 4-6-0 in their last 10. Canucks have a seven point lead for the division but I do believe we'll have our losing skids as well going forward. Canucks 44GP 62 points Vegas 44GP 55 points LA 41 GP 50 points Oilers 40 GP 49 points Calgary 44GP 47 points Seattle 44GP 47 points Considering the central Winnipeg 43GP 62 points Colorado 45GP 61 points Dallas 43GP 57 points Preds 44GP 49 points Arizona 42GP 45 points I think Arizona will fall out despite having been better this season, could see Nashville fading too It wouldn't shock me at all to have the Canucks play one of LA, Edmonton, or Vegas in the first round, I wouldn't be surprised to see 4-5 Pacific teams make it at this rate If Edmonton can win even a couple of their games in hand on Vegas they'll be breathing down their neck, same goes for LA, and I don't expect LA to keep sliding the way they have been
  13. Yup, we'll need young, cheaper talent to step up and replace some of the inevitable turnover. Only so much cap to go around and all of Blueger, Lafferty, and Joshua will be due for raises up front. Pettersson, Hronek, and Zadorov extensions will eat chunks, DeSmith or someone else will need to be signed or given a raise. Cole will need to be re-signed or replaced which should cost more than his current 3M imo. OEL cap hit jumps up and eats some cap.
  14. He's been impressive thus far, no question. Lot of season left though.
