  1. I'd be shocked if that's all it took, Kuzmenko's value isn't what it was Guentzel should return around a 1st, an NHL player, and a decent prospect imo Maybe Kuzmenko and a 1st would be closer but Kuzmenko and a couple mid round picks sounds too low I'm not keen on the idea of burning a 1st for a rental but I understand that the window before Pettersson's extension is now
  2. Tanev may be missing some teeth but he's not a mutant..
  3. They largely have the same group. They just couldn't buy goals early on, things evened out and they began winning. It's not a shock that a team who was dominant at times last season could go on an absolute tear. Are they top heavy? Yeah, but so are a number of other playoff teams. Will they win a cup? Probably not. Could they be a dangerous opponent for any western team despite their flaws? Yes.
  4. Agreed, they could be a dangerous opponent for any team who takes them mightly
  5. I don't think we need to worry about then unless we have losing skids, we've been pretty consistent about bouncing back thus far though Kings should he nervous, they've given up a lot of ground to Edmonton and Seattle, even Calgary is in the mix Maybe, but I recall the Avs saying each game was tough against them in the playoffs They're top heavy but both McDavid and Draisaitl have shown they can be dominant come playoff time, they may not go deep but they could absolutely knock out anyone who takes them lightly
  6. Oilers hate or not, you don't win eleven in a row by getting lucky What the Oil have done to climb out if their hole is really impressive
  7. Quinn is, but I don't think that'll matter. I think there'll always be a segment of the Canucks fanbase that fusses about players getting market value when the dollars amounts are larger. That isn't unique to the Canucks fanbase, but it is what it is. Win the cup and folks will still care, it'll just make some folks care less. I think a lot of the same folks not wanting to pay Pettersson large dollars will also quibble about Hughes. I lean more towards this. Having to pay a homegrown superstar is a great problem to have. You're wrong on both counts actually. Quinn did not take a discount last time, in fact both him and Pettersson were willing to sit out to get what they wanted. Pettersson took a small discount at best last time, arguably to keep the term down. Jack didn't take a discount, he took the guaranteed money. If you look back at the CDC thread a lot of folks were skeptical when Jack got his payday, Devils were gambling that it'd age well and it's paid off spectacularly for them. If anything Jack's lost out on at least ten million dollars by not taking a shorter term deal, gotta credit Jersey for taking the gamble they did. Jack Hughes signed his current deal Nov 2021, his 2021-2022 season ended with him having 56 points in 49 games. Point per game, that's great for a young player, but he didn't really blow up til the following season which had him put up 99 points in 78 games. His contract is one of the best value deals in the league, but it's not because he took a discount.
  8. I expect it'll be the same thing all over again, folks will love Quinn til he looks to cash in
  9. I think there's an argument to be had that him and Quinn are both the current faces of the Canucks, the same way the twins were when they were here.
  10. Already spoke to this, a sign and trade that Pettersson wasn't on board with wouldn't look good for the Canucks. Sign and trades aren't a common occurrence at the NHL level. Don't see why a team that's historically been a bottom feeder in Columbus would pony up what it'd cost to acquire Pettersson without having him locked in long-term anyway. Acquiring him and then having to either trade him again down the road or risk having him walk wouldn't be a very smart way to handle assets. If Pettersson doesn't want to sign long-term on a team that finally looks to be more of an up and comer than I don't see why he'd sign long-term in Columbus. He's made it pretty clear he wants to be on a winning team.
  11. Because we should be a playoff team this year and the Canucks fanbase is a little overzealous and loves to speculate We'll see it more leading up the the deadline, those seeking clicks will just mention the Canucks because if it's out there we've proven that we'll find it
  12. It's true, but they also have Josh Norris locked up to back Stutzle up already It's hard to argue that the Sens don't need some sort of change, but a lot of their woes can probably be pinned on goaltending and coaching At 71 it's not as if Jacques Martin is a longer-term option, Korpisalo also has another four years left on his deal at 4M per Maybe they shuffle it by moving Chychrun although I it'd cost quite a bit, he's been good this season , gotta think they'll be looking to flip Tarasenko somewhere too NTC or not Sens have also really missed having Chabot healthy, he's been injured a fair bit this season and missing their #1D hasn't helped things, he's only played 16 games
  13. Maybe, but Hughes hit 99 points last season during his 21-22 season. 45 points in 32 games thus far this season, so on pace to do it again if he'd stayed healthy. Factor in his 8M cap hit, so tentatively 4M less than Pettersson, and I don't know. If I were the Devil's GM I wouldn't do it, Jack's done more at a younger age and is locked in on a bargain of a deal considering how the cap will rise. 6 more seasons left on Jack's deal after this one, his contract allows them to fit in other pieces which is more valuable to the Devil's than the difference between Pettersson and Hughes imo. They also have a defensive savant in Hischier backing him up, Hischier is a Selke conversation player when healthy. If the cap didn't exist I'd take Pettersson every time, but the cap does exist.
  14. Sign and trades don't happen much, particularly in season. Signing Pettersson under the pretense of his staying in Vancouver and then flipping him would be operating in bad faith, I can't imagine that looking all that great to players and agents around the league. A Tkachuk style sign and trade is rare. Devils just signed and traded Severson to Columbus, but that happened in the offseason. The key piece to both deals is the players were on board with it. If Pettersson signs a deal in good faith and we flip him that's going to be a black mark on the Canucks organization if Pettersson's team hasn't okayed such a move.
  15. Short to medium term deals are the way to go moving forward, long term should be reserved for top guys Precisisely because it allows for more flexibility Pettersson and Hughes will be the engines going forward, they'll top out as Miller is declining imo, and I do expect him to decline At what rate is anyone's guess, but most players decline Hronek makes sense on a longer term deal, they finally found an RD who works
  16. When healthy Jack Hughes is one of the best bargains in the league, why would Jersey move him? Probably something closer to 11, it'd be less cap hit in return for less term Maybe the high 10's at best, he's not gonna be a bargain on a shorter term deal imo, but I don't think any Pettersson deal is going to be a bargain at the end of the day I think that's probably the sensible compromise Could see it being closer to 12 too on a shorter term deal too though, I don't think the Canucks have much leverage
  17. Yeah, the organization hasn't been a playoff regular during Petey's Canucks tenure, I can see why he'd take the wait and see approach. He's only made the playoff once as a Canuck, this is season number six. Didn't Gillis fly to Sweden to meet with the twins too? I think it's just a tough negotiation, but I do believe it'll get done one way or another. I think Pettersson will probably come out the bigger winner in negotiations, but I also see the Canucks as winners if they're able to get him on at least a 3-4 year deal. Even if that puts Pettersson in a position to cash in again, so be it. One of the strengths going forward for the Canucks is their lack of long term contracts on the books. Miller and Hughes are the only two players right now who have more than three years remaining on their current deals, it's not as if the Canucks won't be able to pay Pettersson again in a few years if it comes to that. Hronek probably gets longer term, could see Boeser getting medium term, Demko too. Although I could see Demko getting more term than Boeser. I don't imagine anyone else currently on the roster gets more than 3-4 years. I don't think Zadorov's done enough as a Canuck to garner 5-6 years.
  18. Do you genuinely believe Pettersson would sign in Columbus? Isn't he on record stating that he wants to be part of a competitive team? Columbus could certainly user a top notch center, but it seems farfetched that Pettersson would sign there long term if he isn't willing to do that on a better team in Vancouver.
  19. Wouldn't surprise me, the cost of having a higher end season without winning a cup is guys wanting their bag Wouldn't surprise me, management's done a good job thus far but it'll be interesting to see how they address any turnover that stems from the success they've helped build Doubt we have the same team, but I don't necessarily see that as a bad thing, I think the team could be improved upon Just puts pressure on management to find deals, although having a successful season will help attract players It also puts pressure on management and the coaching staff being able to integrate cost effective ELC's/RFA's such as Raty Better to have to put up with the problems of a competitive team than those of a no man's land team though
  20. Edguy's always been one of my favourite power metal bands, shame Tobias has gone on to stick exclusively with his Avantasia project (which isn't to shit on it, it's good too)
  21. That voice though, what a killer feature Love that chugging guitar riff too
