  1. Agreed, and finding an equivalent fit wouldn't be easy Not impossible, but def not easy For example, Ottawa doesn't need Pettersson, they have a 1C in Stutzle locked in long term at 8.3M The other wrinkle is it'd have to be a team Pettersson would be willing to extend with or you may as well scrap the whole idea
  2. Wild just need to ride it out tbh, next season is their last season of having almost 15M worth of dead cap. After next season their cap penalty drops from 14,743,588 to 1,666,666, factor in cap increases and they'll have the flexibility to try and be better sooner than later.
  3. He's having what'll probably be a career year and they've got to pay someone, good for him.
  4. Kuzmenko doesn't even get Ek 1-1, people talk about his value as if he's the player he was last season, he isn't. This year's first is middling at best, ideally later. Hoglander would smart to part with, but his being the deal breaker is a bit of a head scratcher. Ek is a 2C locked in on a very palatable contract, he's a very good two way player, if he were available there are teams who'd beat such a Canucks package. Teams aren't getting Ek for peanuts, and I don't even believe he's available.
  5. I doubt it, depends on the term he's looking for. I have a hard time seeing us coming out as winners in a Pettersson trade if the goal is to contend sooner than later. Yeah, I actually touched on that in my post. Makar has the remainder of this season and three others, four seasons. And the Dahlin got x because he plays in Buffalo bit is lazy, Dahlin put up 73 points in 78 games last season and currently has 35 in 43. Dahlin got paid top D dollars because he's one of the top young D in the league, factor in multiple offseasons of cap increases and yes, Hughes likely commands more.
  6. Maybe he shouldn't have, maybe if they go on a hot streak it'll all be his fault I think the Kings are better than they've looked over their losing stretch, hockey's weird sometimes Seattle just had their streak bumped but like Edmonton they've been able to run their way back into the playoff mix Could just be that the Pacific isn't as weak as some folks make it out to be
  7. I genuinely believe Hughes will probably end up getting more than Pettersson, as a D no less. I've seen some folks argue he's generational or in the same bracket as Makar, this year he certainly looks it. Makar signed his current deal in July 2021, right before going on to blow up with 86 points in 77 games, and win a Norris, Conn Smythe, and Stanley Cup. What number would he be looking at four seasons down the road? It's gonna be a big jump from his current 9M and Hughes is his most direct comparison. The Avs benefitted from timing, and from burning Makar's ELC early. Had they not, Makar would have been able to cash in on all that hardware. Dahlin just signed an 8x11M extension last October, Hughes will get more. Factor in cap increases and I could def see Hughes commanding at least 13M, particularly if he wins some hardware between now and the end of his current deal. Makar probably gets something starting with 13M or higher. I think 12M is probably a good number to expect from Pettersson, maybe a tad more even. Maybe a little less if the term is shorter. Miller's 31 in March, even if he is better than Pettersson at the moment how long will that remain true? Miller wasn't likely to fall off immediately, but I do believe a degree of decline is inevitable whereas Pettersson is in the meat of his prime. How Miller will age is up for debate. At the day Pettersson benefits from a rising cap the way some other players, players who some may argue are better, couldn't. You've said as much, at the end of the day that is what it is, the cap reality shifts with each cap increase. Any good GM will weigh their options, absolutely, but if the Canucks believe they're primed to contend I have a hard time seeing them moving Pettersson.
  8. He's a top 10 NHL forward, I doubt any deal he signs doesn't involve a full NMC. As for starting at the top, I just don't buy it. Every fanbase across the league hopes their stars will take a good chunk less than market value and most of the time it just doesn't happen. Maybe Pettersson will surprise, I certainly don't expect it though.
  9. I'd like to see the Penguins make the playoffs, if only because Crosby is putting on an absolute clinic this season. What he's doing at 36 is impressive.
  10. I'm not pointing fingers at anyone in particular, but when it's come to Pettersson this past offseason, and this season, it's appears that some folks love having stars but hate the prospect of paying them market value or more. This whole let's trade Pettersson if he isn't willing to put the team first and take a discount thing is silly, we finally have an elite top 10 NHL forward that we drafted ourselves and folks are fussing about paying him. Folks should be thanking their lucky stars after being capped out and mediocre most of the past decade. Seems to me that Pettersson will likely get market value for whatever term he ends up committing to. Every contract isn't going to offer surplus value, sometimes a contract is simply the going rate. But it's better to pay your top players the going rate than to overpay support players at the end of the day. Most superstars and stars don't take discounts, we should be thankful we have a few. Hughes will likely hit a grand slam on his next deal the same way Pettersson likely does this go round.
  11. He's probs more a 20-30 goal, 40-60 point guy than what we saw last season. I reckon there's a chance he may have just had a career year off the hop, I've seen folks mention sophomore slumps but I dunno, he just hasn't looked like as much of a fit as he did under Boudreau. Hopefully he can do better over the second half if he isn't traded, it's not as if he's lost all his skill, he was simply due for some regression from last season and he's regressed harder than folks probably thought he would.
  12. Zadorov was a 5D in Calgary, maybe he could be more here, but there's a chance he's just a very good 5D who can step up. My statement isn't a knock on his toolbox, but while he's been steady he hasn't blown me away as a Canuck.
  13. Don't think we can afford him, he could be great to have depending on what kind of extension he'd be interested in though. He's better than anyone on our D not named Hughes or Hronek though, and either him or Hronek would be a very good 3D.
  14. Been missing these lately 3-2 Nucks Boeser
