  1. I dunno, they've yet to re-sign a bona-fide star of Pettersson's caliber In retrospect the Miller signing looks really good, but Miller supposedly took a bit less and likely opted for security over looking to bet on himself the way Pettersson has Few probably expected Miller to fall off sooner than later, but I do think his contract does factor in a degree of decline in regards to overall cost Management is savvy, but they can't control the prices other GM's set around the league more than any other management group, if Nylander hits a home run financially there absolutely could be implications for Pettersson's next deal How they handle Pettersson now, Boeser sooner than later, and Demko and Hughes down the road will be interesting
  2. I agree, but I could see him aging as a top six player, could be more than that tbh
  3. Gotta think the Leafs may move on from Tavares when his deal is up if he can't be brought back at a much smaller cap hit Nylander, Matthews, and Marner will likely cannibalize Tavares's cap One more season left on his deal, he'll be 34 in September and 35 before the first season of any new deal
  4. Nah, Kuzmenko hasn't even been that in Vancouver this season Crouse is a big toughish forward who can put up middle six production, he's been very good value for the Coyotes and his deal will likely age well Coyotes need to win to sell tickets, Crouse has been helping them do that this season Crouse also has term that takes him through the meat of his prime at a 4.3M cap hit and Kuzmenko has a 12-team NTC, doubt he waives for Arizona I get that you take an over the top Canucks approach, but moving Crouse does not make sense for the Coyotes If he were to ever be traded here it's because we'd be outbidding other teams that would have interest, and there would be other teams, it'd likely take an overpayment
  5. /thread Crouse is too valuable for them on that contract to move for less than an overpayment
  6. Wonder when the Nylander domino will fall, you know we're gonna pay for Toronto overpaying their core 4
  7. I don't disagree, if management saw Miller as a center instead of a winger it was a position of strength But at the time he wasn't a 3C Dunno, if one guy were to be slotted back to wing it'd be Miller or Pettersson, if only because of Horvat being strong in the dot Horvat is a top six center, no bones about it, and he's showing that in New York
  8. C'mon Alf, Horvat was at least a 2C while in Vancouver
  9. Kane had the shootout winner for Detroit last night, he's been good in Detroit thus far, 14 points in 15 games
  10. Lightning take a hit too https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/news/tampa-bay-lightning-place-defenseman-mikhail-sergachev-on-long-term-injured-reserve
  11. A resurgent McDavid or not, if Mac can keep this up he might finally win a Hart, dude has been on an absolute tear
  12. Good thing they have so many points banked, it's doubtful that Nashville or Arizona reel them in for a divisional spot
  13. That's not necessarily what it looks like, same goes for Barkov making 10M, Kucherov making 9.5M, Point making 9.5M, Stamkos taking 8.5M back in the day, Hedman taking 7.8M back in the day, and Vasi taking less than Bobrovsky at 9.5M. Taxes matter, Tkachuk's cap hit would have to be quite a bit larger in Vancouver for example for him to have the same take home pay. Teams like Tampa and Florida have a tax advantage.
  14. Yanks won, that sucks At least Canucks prospects had good showings

  16. Nobody's arguing the Canucks haven't been better than most expected, that doesn't change the fact that most cup winners are teams who've had to lose and garner playoff experience before breaking through. This team has still shown signs of growing pains this season despite having success, I don't think expecting a first or second round exit is unrealistic.
  17. That's nice, the odds of the Canucks going on a fairy tale run are still extremely small. Go back and look at the season by season records of the cup winners over the past 10 or 11 years, the only teams that weren't consistent playoff regulars before winning for a good stretch of time prior to winning are Chicago and LA, and Chicago won the season after going straight to a conference final with rookies in Kane and Toews. The other team with a short runway was LA, they lost in the first round twice before going on to win with what was a defensive powerhouse of a team. Most teams have to pay their dues before going deep, that's how it's been most of the past decade, if not longer.
  18. Same, even a 1st in the 20's could get us a top notch prospect I don't expect us to make the cup final this season, maybe more a 1st or 2nd round exit imo, the odds of this team waltzing into the playoffs after consistently missing it and waltzing straight to a final are very small Most teams have to beat their heads against the playoff wall before even making a conference final, that story rings true for almost all cup winners over the past decade
