  1. Makes sense, better hockey teams are also generally better at puck possession which likely directly correlates with Tanev's improved health in Calgary Tanev was part of several lousy Canuck teams, and more than likely other teams had the puck most of the time during those lean years If the team Tanev plays for carries the puck more frequently it likely results in him having to block fewer shots
  2. That always surprised me a bit, but I figure it's probably a difference in systems and usage He's been part of better D cores in Calgary too, whereas him and Edler were basically on an island together in Vancouver for a good stretch
  3. So.. are we ready to trade Kuzmenko yet? Revisiting this thread. How about.. To Carolina Kuzmenko 5.5M Cole 3M A prospect like Bains, Hirose, Johansson, or a young forward like Aman or Podz. I'm reluctant to give up on Podz but gotta give to get, he's also a player I could see Carolina having interest in. He'd give them a cost controlled RFA who could play on their roster, which they'll need with the raises they're going to have to dole out. Willing to be flexible about what we give up on top of Kuzmenko and Cole, we're paying for an upgrade in Pesce and hopefully a better fit in Teravainen. To Vancouver Teravainen 5.4M Pesce 4M Both players we acquire are pending UFA's, Kuzmenko and Teravainen have similar numbers (Kuzmenko has 4 goals and 15 points in 23 games whereas Teravainen has 11 goals and 18 points in 25 games). Teravainen had a bit of a down year last season but has regularly been a 60+ point player for Carolina, Kuzmenko is having a bit of a down year but has proven that he can light the lamp even if he hasn't done it as much thus far. Teravainen has a longer track record of production but he'll also be due for a raise and I'm not sure Carolina will be able to afford to keep him, Kuzmenko gives them a replacement at 5.5M this season and next. Teravainen would probably be a rental but it's whatever, the real prize is Pesce and we're giving up a player I don't think we'll extend in Cole anyway. Cole has been good for us but he gives them someone to slot in for Pesce. They also get a forward with some term in Kuzmenko, who still has trade value imo. Cole can help stabilize their D. We give up assets on top of Cole and Kuzmenko to pay for upgrading on Cole by getting Pesce. Carolina wants to contend now, futures aren't likely to be as appealing to them imo. Just spitballing of course, but I thought I'd circle back given I've seen more people talking about trading Kuzmenko since I posted this.
  4. I mean, once they finally figure out how to put CDC down they'll suddenly have a few dollars to put together for the bandwidth..
  5. I've read that as well, but at the same time it depends on who's willing to pay what I understand being bitter, but if Toronto is willing to pay the best price Calgary may have to reconsider their stance Toronto is currently the team most desperate to add on D (outside of maybe Edmonton) if I'm not mistaken, would be dumb of Calgary not to take advantage of that
  6. You and a few others have repeatedly mentioned Boudrias over the years, but this is the first I've ever heard of Pit Martin. 800 points is nothing to sneeze at, neither is 1k+ games, I guess a lot of players who put up high totals, but not high enough to get into the HOF have their names lost to time.
  7. Legalizing sports betting was going to happen eventually, I just wish it wasn't shoved in our faces all the time. It and alcohol, and I like alcohol. Lot of folks can just gloss over it and find annoying, but these kind of ads can absolutely influence developing brains. Not just the young though, walk into a casino and the demographic probably won't be young. Gambling can be a slippery slope for a lot of folks.
  8. Plus, it'd be funny and I'm mostly here to be entertained
  9. Yeah, but talking about them doesn't ruffle feathers
  10. On the seventh day of Canuckmas, Canucks lore gave to me André Boudrias 1971-1976 Dave Fortier 1977 Pit Martin 1978-1979 Sid Veysey 1978 Gary Lupul 1980-1986 Gerry Minor 1980 Tony Currie 1982 Barry Pederson 1987-1990 Dan Quinn 1990-1991 Cliff Ronning 1991-1996 David Roberts 1997-1998 Jamie Huscroft 1998-1999 Robb Gordon 1999 Brendan Morrison 2000-2008 David Booth 2012-2014 Linden Vey 2015-2016 Nic Petan 2022 William Lockwood 2023 Carson Soucy 2024
  11. I just don't see him going to Edmonton though, seeing a Pettersson/Draisaitl trade would also be bizarre for both sides Hard to see him moving within the division I don't think he'll be moved though
  12. It's anyone's guess, I'll give you that I wouldn't be surprised if there were could be a fit in Dallas tbh but I wonder what they'd give up Maybe something around Pettersson for Robertson, it'd bolster them down the middle but hurt them on the wing Benn won't be on the books much longer, Pavelski probably won't play til he's 50, Duchene is short-term Easier to find wingers than center's
  13. Perhaps, but even with Pettersson Anaheim isn't really all that close to being a contender any time soon They've been patient, they've drafted well, and it's beginning to show dividends, more than likely Anaheim will continue to be patient as their youth take over They've shown progress this season but they're also sliding, could be in the mix for another top 10 pick
  14. Edmonton def looks to be rolling If they can somehow turn Campbell's cap hit into something positive they could be even better A win tonight will have them six points out of a wildcard spot with games in hand
  15. Considering what he's accomplished, absolutely Forgot to mention that Makar was point per game in the playoffs in both 19-20 and 20-21 with 15 points in 15 games and then 10 points in 10 games Avs benefitted from timing though, Makar was signed under a flat cap and right before he took his roughly point per game play to another level Avs ultimately benefitted from burning a year off his ELC, if they'd waited he may very well have been up for an extension after winning the Norris, Conn Smythe, and Stanley Cup Sometimes teams get lucky with timing
  16. Probably, we can blame Benning era management for not getting more term out of Pettersson's camp at the time
  17. It's not a theory, it's a pattern. And no, Makar earned it. He signed his current deal on Jul. 24, 2021 after putting up 50 points in 57 games in 19-20 and 44 points in 44 games in 20-21. Makar's been roughly point per game or better his entire NHL career.
  18. Aight, lemme rephrase that, any team trying to use Hughes as a comparable when trying to extend an already established point producer is going to be laughed at Players like Hughes and Stutzle are why you see more teams paying based on potential, hoping to see players blow up in similar fashions Doesn't really work in the case of player like Pettersson Stutzle signed his deal on Sep. 7, 2022, the season before he'd put up 58 points in 79 games Ottawa gambled on his potential and it paid off, Stutzle went on to put up 90 points in 78 games Stutzle looks great at 8.3 because he blew up, but if he'd stuck to closer to the 60ish points he put up the season prior it suddenly doesn't look as great
  19. Blame Benning for not going longer term Jersey gambled and won, any team who tries to use Jack Hughes making 8M as a comparable will be laughed at by whichever agent they're talking to
