  1. They'll try for one, but there's quite a gap between them and us, Vegas, and LA. Making the playoffs period would be a successful season for them at this point, they'll take any seed they can get over missing.
  2. I think it'd have to be one of the three I mentioned+, I whether Kuz would waive for Columbus though, seems unlikely. 12-team NTC. The other teams, I could see it. I'd be a bit surprised if Philly moved Sanheim, he's been good for them and they're in the mix for a playoff spot still. Walker seems like the D they probably move, maybe Risto. Walker is a pending UFA, makes sense that they'd look to get a return for him if they don't plan on extending him. There isn't much, Edmundson is the only guy I really see them maybe looking to move. Yeah, either Pesce or Skjei would be good adds. LD or RD doesn't matter so much to me, we have flex on our second pairing rn. Cole is unlikely to be a longer term fit. And yeah, Carolina needs to shit or get off the pot at some point.
  3. They don't have to catch us, and it's unlikely given the gap. At this point they'd probably settle for a wildcard given their start. 5 points out of a playoff spot, they could do it. Wouldn't be surprised to see McDavid race his way up the points ladder though, he's been on.
  4. We could probably rent Walker out of Philly, or extend him. 2.6M cap hit also leaves space for another move. Ristolainen could be a gamble. Columbus would probably be Peeke or Boquist imo. Maybe Bean. Washington strikes me as a team trying to build their D, but maybe Edmundson could be available. 6'5", 225ish. 1.75M cap hit and a pending UFA. Probably wouldn't be cheap. But Washington does like their Russians and Kuz would probably waive to go there imo. Could be something around Kuzmenko for Edmundson+. Pesce or Skjei are the names that jump out from Carolina.
  5. Haha, that'd be something They'll almost certainly be looking for a smaller cap hit though
  6. Leafs could be particularly desperate to beef up their D, missing the playoffs and not being able to capitalize on the last year of Matthews's and Nylander's current deals would be a huge failure Lot of teams right behind them right now
  7. 5-3 Knights Eichel Nucks have the misfortune of being who Vegas breaks their losing streak against
  8. It def doesn't hurt to try, we'll see Podz up here at some point so who knows
  9. Someone in that vein, yeah, that'd be good If the Coyotes are serious about not being a lousy team I'd be surprised if he were available though, his contract seems to be pretty good value for a franchise who'll probably still be more conservative financially
  10. I'm generally pretty pragmatic when it comes to the Canucks and even I have to admit they've largely done a good job thus far
  11. Not sure it'd be Podz, I think we'd want someone more proven imo, Podz hasn't shown much at the NHL level since his rookie season and despite his being young enough to develop into something good I question the likelihood of him reaching his potential
  12. Moving him also gives us an opportunity to slot someone else into that spot, Miller and Pettersson can drive their lines, we could look to add another element to our top 6 Don't have a whole lot of grit in our top 6 for example
  13. I think we add, we have room to bring in a top 4D if we send cap out and don't sign Bear But I'm also not of the opinion that we should somehow be all in this season If we can find a way to simply add a top 4D and have them be part of a longer-term plan I'd be content with that as our last trade of the season I'd just ride out the 6M tbh, depth on D is important and despite the flack he gets Myers has played top 4 for a loooong time, having him on the bottom pairing is depth As for Boeser, hard to say, players are often paid on what they've done recently, but I do view him as more likely to give us a fair deal than Kuz or other UFA's because of his roots here
  14. 12 points in 3 games, safe to say McDavid is probably back
  15. He'll get a top 6 look, Chicago isn't a typical bottom feeder rn They very much look like a team trying to insulate/keep Bedard happy while they're bad
  16. I'd keep Boeser, with Pettersson's big deal incoming moving Kuz would also shave some cap off our forward group. Ideally we find someone cheaper to slot into our top six, maybe Hoglander. Reallocating Kuzmenko's cap to D seems like a fit to me. That leaves you with Pettersson, Miller, Mikheyev, and Boeser (extension) as your bigger hits up front. It also allows you to bump Garland up or find a better stylistic fit for the top 6. I think Myers stays, he's a pending UFA and there's really no rush to move him imo. Bring in another top 4 and he's a 5 who can step up and play top 4 if injuries occur. Makes sense to keep him if the plan is to extend him too.
  17. Wouldn't be surprised if he was extended Myers at 6M is less than ideal, Myers at 2.5-3M as a 5 who can step up and play top 4 is pretty solid
  18. Makes a lot if sense, don't see us signing both him and Boeser in two year's time
  19. They didn't have to back themselves in a cap corner with him by blowing their load on UFA's though. They could have given him at least another season. They forced their own hand and it cost us a 2nd.
  20. I think that depends on what happens to the cap and how he performs over the remainder of the season, I could see him being more of a hockey trade But straight up clearing his entire hit? That'd be a bit more surprising He brings positives but he's pricy for a third liner True enough, I'm just not sold on him coming in cold But he is a free 5-7D
  21. It's a far cry from throwing in a 2nd just because, although I still don't like having paid to dump Dickinson but it is what it is
  22. Trader Jim gonna trader Jim. Management has been opportunistic, if I remember correctly Montreal didn't want to lose a tender to waivers whereas Chicago isn't your typical bottom feeder. Bedard is getting McDavid treatment, they'll do whatever they can to try and make him happy while they're bad. Whereas Montreal took what they could get. Beau shouldn't have ever cost a high pick to move, but there was the assumption it'd cost us, yes. I've been of the opinion that it'd cost us, but there have absolutely been folks around here who still viewed Beau as being positive value.
