  1. Six points behind Seattle with two games in hand, I think St. Louis could slip too. The current western top six should probably make it just fine if injuries don't derail things. I wouldn't worry about the wildcard bit anyway, neither LA or Vegas are going to be easy to beat. If the Canucks make the playoffs the season has to be considered a success regardless of what happens come playoff time. We have 29 points in 22, Oil have 15 in 20, that's a huge gap to make up. If the Oil catch us it'll be because we slide. And if we slide that horrifically while the Oil go on heaters that's entirely on the Canucks.
  2. West hasn't looked as strong this season, it's a climb but you never know McDavid jumped from 29th in points to 13th last night, if the Oil's top six can stay hot and go on a couple heaters they could be right back in it 9 points in 2 games for McDavid, 5 for Draisaitl Oil are absolutely top heavy but when McDavid and Draisaitl are on one can't count Edmonton out
  3. Not very, I can't emphasize how much the Canucks still have to prove after the past decade or so. A hot start is great and this season has been a step forward, but they need to learn to put things together consistently, injuries and tough schedules or not. Our travel is worse but every other team has to deal with these things too to some degree. They also need to shed cap and have most of their contracts be good value. It's a stepping stone season, it's why I hope management is hesitant to make any large moves that don't have longer term roster impacts. I want to retain our assets if possible, particular high picks. Maybe after making the playoffs a few season they can start thinking about being contenders, but not til then. Most teams have to beat their heads against playoff walls before even getting a sniff at a conference final, let alone a cup final. Lots left to prove, lots for management to sort out. It's been a better start then the past couple seasons, take that for what it is.

  5. Two ends of the spectrum, Kings have been excellent whereas Montreal has not
  6. How old would I have to be to have been young when this was news
  7. Blackhawks would do well to just make the scenario clear. Perry's always been a bit of an asshole on the ice over the years, but I can't recall hearing anything bad about him off the ice. Seems weird that something would come up this late in his career.
  8. Was a bit surprised, Minnesota hasn't been good of late Still aren't, but they were just good enough to deny Makar
  9. They'd have to send back one of Garland/Beau to make it work, probably more on top imo, him and Garland have similar term so that'd probably make more sense If he could be had as a buy-low candidate, perhaps I'd probably avoid it, that term combined with the chance he reverts to being chaotic defensively makes it less palatable
  10. Ex-Canuck Jason Dickinson with his first hatty to propel the Hawks to a win Good, Hawks need to win more so they're further away from the bottom, they don't deserve another top 3 pick
  11. You're assuming that the Flyers view Garland as positive value though, I'm not so sure. 1st is likely to be middling, ideally late. But yeah, it's a 1st. I question the trade value of Podz tbh, he's young enough to still develop into something nice and there's something to be said about being patient with young players, but he really hasn't shown much thus far at the NHL level. His AHL numbers have been better this season, but overall I dunno. I think Philly would be asking for a better prospect, or more in general. Sanheim isn't going to come cheap, he's on pace for career season. I'm also not convinced that he's available, or that he'd even want to come here given his full NTC. This is the first season of his extension, one has to assume he was okay chilling in Philly as they turned things over. I'm pretty sure we'd have to pay for the favour of dumping Beau. I think it'd take more, Laughton has a 3M cap hit and put up 43 points last season. 10 points in 19 games thus far so he's on pace to hit similar numbers. Maybe bump the 3rd up to a 2nd. It doesn't sound like Philly is tearing things down, they want to solidify their young foundation. Sounds like more of a competitive retool, I don't think their better pieces are going to come cheap at all. They're also in the mix for a playoff spot at this point. Philly being open for business sounds like "make us an offer but be prepared to pay".
  12. Sanheim had 31 points in 80 games back in 21-22, he put up 23 points in 81 games in 22-23, he's massively improved on both those year thus far and currently has 16 points in 19 games. He will not come cheap.
