  1. Speaking further to my last post, balancing the needs of the active NHL roster and the needs of the organization in terms of depth is so important, so critical. It's not an easy happy medium to find, it's like walking a tightrope for NHL executives. It's why I'm more bullish than most when it comes to picks, because they are what are going to get us players on ELC's and you need players on ELC's or players with smaller cap hits playing above their cap hit in today's NHL. Top picks are how we get the Willander's and the Lekkerimaki caliber players on the cheap. Picks are simultaneously a currancy for trades, overrated and underrated, critical to developing prospect depth, and the best way of acquiring top end players. The cheapest way to acquire top four D, top six wingers, top three centers, ect is to draft and develop them yourself. It'll always cost you more to try and poach another team's successful prospect than it will to draft and develop such a prospect yourself. Drafting and developing well are critical to a team's success because most prospects don't step in like Boeser, Pettersson, and Hughes. Most prospects take longer. You always need to be adding players to the pipeline, this management group has been doing a pretty good job of that. I hope it's a theme that continues.
  2. The cost of success is players getting paid, happens whether a team wins a cup or not If Boeser piles up a huge year his next ask rises Scenarios like these are why stockpiling prospects and holding on to high picks is important, gotta have quality guys on ELC's coming in as your stars earn big cap hits, I hope we make a habit of at least holding on to our 1st
  3. I actually feel bad for CBJ, Canucks fans have suffered but at least they have stretches of good hockey teams to look back on CBJ fans don't, their franchise highlight is sweeping Tampa East is wiiiiiide open, only four points separate sixth from fifteenth, there are games in hand involved but still
  4. He's been very impressive thus far, good sign for LA going forward
  5. Dunno, sometimes when a tender puts up a shutout they deserve it Vegas had 38 shots and just couldn't break through On another note though Dahlin with a three point game, wonder if the Sabres can stay afloat til Thompson gets back East is much tighter than the west it seems, almost no team is really out of it given how bunched up things are
  6. I'd go see Sabres-Caps personally, I'd be a bit disappointed watching an Oilers win and Sabres-Caps guarantees you don't see one
  7. Bahl is signed this season and next or a cap hit of roughly 1M. He's a young LD with size and upside, why would a team that likely views themselves as a contender give that up for a forward they don't need in Beauvillier? They'd be taking on an additional 3.15M in cap space when they only have roughly 1M in cap space, makes no sense for them.
  8. Don't think we'd be willing to pay what he'd cost, I'd be surprised if he makes it to UFA Him and Pettersson sure would be dynamic together though Pettersson will get signed, it's just a matter of what the term looks like imo
  9. They'll be hard pressed, he has a full NMC this season and next, so does Tavares I'm not convinced they can afford to keep all of them, Nylander would be the easiest to move given he only has a 10 team NTC
  10. Hughes is a phenomenal talent but I do view Makar as being the better player We're very fortunate to have one of the two though, easily the best D we've had
  11. His shooting percentage was due for some regression, his shooting percentage from last season was unsustainable
  12. Capitals are quietly 8-1-1 in their last 10 despite their limited scoring
  13. He's just burnt us a fair bit over the years, always seems to show up when playing the Canucks
  14. Isles are a weird one, they've got the talent to be better than they have been but they just can't seem to score regularly Near the bottom of the league in both goals and shooting percentage despite having one of the better powerplays For a team whose defense is supposed to be their bread and butter it hasn't really been
  15. Flames get at least a point to continue what's been a solid November thus far
  16. Seriously, as someone who grew up a long ways away from Alberta I'm always baffled at how much cheaper alcohol can be there
  17. Wouldn't doubt it, fortunately he's got the financial resources to get help and likely plenty of support from friends/teammates around the league, the Boston Bruins, the NHL, and so on A lot of those who perpetrate domestic abuse don't have access to the kind of supports he does, hopefully he makes the most of it I get that this is a Canucks forum but I'm reluctant to demonize him because of his being an ex-Bruin, ex-Flame, ex-whatever, domestic violence is a complicated matter and we don't know the entirety of the story Oftentimes those who abuse have their own demons, trauma is extremely complicated, there's a lot of data out there for example regarding how those who sexually abuse were often sexually abused as children themselves There can be layers to this shit, ripple effects, damaging cycles Hopefully everyone involved gets the help they need, that's the best case scenario
  18. Hopefully he gets the help he needs, hopefully she does too. I didn't care for him as a hockey player but his fighting hundreds of times over the course of his career probably hasn't helped. Being wealthy doesn't excuse people from having their demons.
