  1. If the Canucks plan on trying to contend they can't afford to not give Pettersson what he wants imo, they lose any trade that involves sending Pettersson out if the goal is to chase a cup. They'll be hard pressed to find a prime aged #1 center who puts in the effort at both ends Pettersson does. I'm probably going to call this the Matthews effect. When one of the league's most marketable superstars takes a medium term deal so he can cash in again late in his twenties of course it's going to encourage other stars to take a similar approach. He signed a 4x13.25M deal, you've gotta think the Leafs will pay him the same or more later if he keeps it up. Pettersson doing the same wouldn't be remotely surprising. More money for stars in two medium term deals than a single long term deal given how the cap is supposed to rise. Not only that, but if gives them a chance to hit UFA and switch teams if they aren't happy.
  2. Agreed. I also truly believe we'd have to pay more than any other team, because I haven't heard of any other Pacific division teams being linked to Calgary, it's just been us. Only other Pacific team I could see poking around at D is Edmonton, and Calgary's even less likely to help them than they are to help us imo. If we really want to upgrade our D I'd be looking at who might be available out east. Also lost in all this seller's talk is the fact that Calgary is 4-2-1 thus far in November, they're 4 points out of a playoff spot. If they can continue to play respectable hockey I think that'll be a factor that encourages Calgary to try and reload vs rebuild.
  3. Ties won't come back, they won't. I'm not keen on shootouts either but the NHL sells entertainment and both OT (in any form) and the shootouts are a more entertaining ways to end games than a tie. How often do we see OT/shootout highlights? It's a way to market excitement.
  4. Dhaliwal was saying that Calgary doesn't want to move Tanev within the division the other day, they don't want him on the west coast, they don't want him in Vancouver unless we make a stupid offer. I imagine the same could be said of Zadorov. Dhaliwal said the Canucks keep pushing Garland and Beau on Calgary but that won't cut it, a 2nd won't do it either. Calgary wants a top prospect/young player who can play in their lineup. Maybe that's Hoglander but it's hard to gauge how Calgary views him. I think there are teams out there who could offer a Hoglander level young player or better, particularly if Calgary is willing to retain cap (and they should be). If Calgary plans on being competitive any time soon and leaning towards more of a competitive retool than a teardown rebuild it doesn't make sense for them to help a divisional rival. More than likely they're stuck with Huberdeau and Kadri, I don't think they're looking to tear things down. I think they'll try to move Tanev, Zadorov, Lindholm, and Hanifin and use them as a means to acquire picks, prospects, and young NHL'ers, I think they'll try and reload and come back again next season. Dhaliwal should be taken with a grain of salt, but if offers are relatively even it still makes more sense for Calgary to ship their UFA's out east. If we want players out of Calgary we'll probably have to pay more than other teams.
  5. 14 goals and 22 assists in 82 games last season, could probably be had for close to league minimum Nobody is expecting a savior, he's simply fun and a great dude Durable, championship pedigree, is known by all of Rutherford, Allvin, and Tochett, reportedly liked by pretty much every teammate I've heard speak of him
  6. Can't take bottom feeders lightly, players still have pride
  7. Ottawa has a stud and he's locked in long-term at 8.3M 21 and already has a 90 point season to his name, up to 20 in 14 thus far so he's well on his way
  8. Deja Vu in the form of Kessel working for Rutherford, Allvin, and Tocchet again?
  9. NHL is unoriginal and a bit of a joke, news at 11
  10. Agreed, I've read speculation that McDavid hasn't been playing at 100% and that would explain some of Edmonton's woes thus far If him and Draisaitl can get hot they're hard to stop though, they're legit game-breaking talents I wouldn't be surprised to see them claw their way back into the playoff discussion
  11. I don't think the drama surrounding the Winnipeg roster combined with some disappointing end-of-season results have helped sell the product in Winnipeg. Could be folks have begun to lose hope. If the Sabres start winning their attendance will likely turn, Buffalo is a franchise a lot of folks see as capable of putting an end to their missing playoff streak but they have to actually go out and do it.
  12. My approach to CDC, and now CFF, is that every other forum user is a source of entertainment whether they realize it or not
  13. Oil are suddenly just six points out of a playoff spot, although St. Louis has a game in hand If they can keep this winning streak going or at least put together a couple winning stretches they could very well climb back into the playoff mix
  14. If Calgary is retaining cap on anyone to extract value from them it probably isn't Beauvillier All of Zadorov, Tanev, Hanifin, and Lindholm would bring Calgary better returns than Beauvillier if they were to retain 50% Can only retain on so many deals, retaining on Beau doesn't really make sense considering the other players they'll likely be looking to trade imo
