  1. But AHL hockey! In all seriousness, I'm not sure taking on Edmonton would be good for his coaching career, I'm not sure anyone is saving Edmonton this season and until they get management in place who are serious about addressing Edmonton's inability to keep goals out of their net I don't think anyone is going to last there as a coach. Coaches can only do so much with the pieces they're given. Better to be a complimentary coach on a team that folks seem to view as a contender imo. Team success will not only reflect well on the head coach in Jersey, but the assistants as well. If Travis takes on the Oil and they continue to spiral he may never get another head coaching gig again, at least he's got a shot at a cup in Jersey.
  2. Why would Travis leave his associate coaching gig with a competitive New Jersey club to coach more AHL hockey?
  3. Gallant was famously fired by the Panthers and then caught fire in Vegas, which eventually lead to him being hired by a Rangers squad looking for a shake up. I think he caught the brunt of disappointing results in New York, but coaches are often the sacrificial lamb. Helped the Rags to a conference final and then got the boot after losing a seven game series to New Jersey. He's helped both Vegas and New York go deep before being knocked out in the first round after a seven game series twice now. Vegas wanted to chase cups, they eventually got one, whereas the Rags top talent is prime aged and ain't getting any younger. Clock is ticking. The Canucks were a middling squad at best under Green, I think the expectations were different because we were trying to climb out of a not-rebuild. If Gallant gets hired again I do think it'll be a competitive team that comes calling, which may actually be why he doesn't end up in Edmonton. It may be a little too late for anyone to turn their season around if the players aren't scoring or keeping pucks out of their net.
  4. Maybe, but teams also keep hiring him. Coaches are hired to be fired more often than not, just the way it goes. Folks are high on Tochett right now for example but he'll probably be fired eventually too, coaches have a shelf life.
  5. Wonder if this is temporary or permanent, I'd have guessed Gallant but I suppose that could still be in the works.
  6. If the Oil miss Holland will likely be done as well imo.
  7. Blues up on the Avs 7-1, that's weird. Even weirder is Schenn and Buchnevich both having hatties for the Blues. Can't remember the last time a team had two players score a hatty during the same game.
  8. Unless they go on a heater or two in a row it could very well be too late, absolutely It's hard to gain ground, we've seen that the past two seasons
  9. First period hatty for Hyman, don't usually see a single period hatty
  10. No game is a guaranteed win, Canuck still have plenty to prove.
  11. Shoddy defense or not, Toronto is a good regular season team. We weren't going to win every game this season, a loss was inevitable. On to the next one.
  12. I wonder if folks would be gushing about him if he weren't big, Russian, and a Millstein client. We don't need to be a Russian boys club any more than we need to be a Swedish one. If we want a Gudbranson it'd probably be cheaper to just trade for Gudbranson in both terms of trade and cap costs. Toronto or Jersey can have him.
  13. Plenty of teams will be interested, don't expect him to come cheap Toronto should be in on this for sure https://newjerseyhockeynow.com/2023/11/11/source-nikita-zadorov-would-welcome-trade-to-devils/
  14. Agent is doing the rounds with local media it seems, should be plenty of interest https://newjerseyhockeynow.com/2023/11/11/source-nikita-zadorov-would-welcome-trade-to-devils/
  15. The big caveat is that Lindholm probably wouldn't extend in Edmonton imo, which probably makes acquiring him a non-starter. I'd also be a bit surprised if Draisaitl waived his trade protection for Calgary, let alone extended there.
  16. He'll likely be expensive to acquire from the Flames whether he's requested a trade or not, I can tell you that for free. Leafs or Oilers should be all over this though. It wasn't directed at anyone in particular, I just think it's waaaaaay too early too be talking about "all-in" and "contention". We're not even halfway through November, we haven't made the playoffs in back to back years in ages and I'm not a homer so I'm not expecting us to waltz into the playoffs and walk straight to a final. Management should do their due diligence, absolutely, but people can be excited about the start while recognizing the context of it and being pragmatic. It's a long season. We're a Hughes, Demko, or Pettersson injury away from potentially looking verrrry different.
  17. It'd be neat to see him with someone like Miller or Boeser, he's certainly got top end talent He's on a sweetheart deal with the Oil though, but never say never
  18. Just turned 28, 29 during his last year of his contract. If he walks to UFA he'd be the best UFA forward to hit UFA since Panarin. Likely the best center in god who knows how long, he'd have no shortage of interest. I think the Oil should be legitimately considered about the possibility of him opting to explore his options.
  19. I'm not even sold on aggressive. I understand being excited about our start but I'm a bit more skeptical when considering who we've beaten and some numbers. The only really good teams we've beaten this season were a Florida team missing it's top two D and Dallas. We lead the league in goals but remove the 10-1 and 8-1 beatdowns of defensively porous teams in San Jose and Edmonton and our goals for probably looks a lot more normal. We lead the league in team shooting percentage at 16.1%, which means we're probably due for some regression. That number is probably propped up by said beatdowns an our fourth ranked powerplay because we're 27th in the league in shots on goal thus far. We've beaten some average teams in Ottawa, Nashville, and St. Louis. The Stars win was impressive, overall I do question where we're actually at when considering our competition thus far though. It's great that we're beating teams we should beat, but we haven't played very many top end teams thus far. I'm curious as to where we'll be in February or March. I think we're good enough for a wildcard or divisional spot but I get a chuckle out of any "all-in" or "contenders" talk.
  20. Things have looked quite a bit different for Vegas since entering the league, our scenarios have not been the same https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Vegas_Golden_Knights_seasons https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Vancouver_Canucks_seasons
