  1. Things are a bit different now with former Calgary Flames GM Brad Treliving having set up shop in Toronto. I know this is a Canucks board, but while several Flames players would probably be good fits as Canucks it strikes me as unlikely that Vancouver would be a sure bet to beat out other bidders if Hanifin, Zadorov, and Tanev become available. Particularly closer to the deadline when teams have a better of what later season playoff odds look like. Calgary can afford to retain cap on players like Tanev, Zadorov, Hanifin, and Lindholm to drive up their ask. Would management inquire? Absolutely, that's their job and if they aren't connecting with other GM's daily they aren't doing their jobs. Calgary will probably favour whichever offer is best/fits their ask best, I'm not sure we can afford that to be us. We're just now starting to restock our cupboards with blue chip talent and it's a bit early to be pushing chips in.
  2. Financial penalties aren't going to hurt a million dollar organization, the previous punishment was a joke. Hit them where it actually hurts. If they're going to take a 1st from Ottawa for bungling a trade they should punish Chicago for covering up multiple sexual assault scandals by at least doing the same.
  3. Monahan off to a fantastic start, may finally be over his past injuries. Could be a very valuable addition at that cap hit. I'd be surprised if the Habs didn't get another haul of picks and prospects closer to the deadline, don't expect them to be in the mix for a playoff spot but I suppose you never know.
  4. Edmonton sure could use a Tanev, so could Toronto. Their D is pretty abysmal. If any of these players are actually available there will be several teams interested in all of them. Doubt any of them come cheap, although Hanifin will understandably cost the most.
  5. That's the sad thing, unless the Hawks do well enough to put themselves outside the top 5 they could end up being handed another top tier talent. The league should take away their 1st.
  6. See post above. But yeah, I think we're more likely to get some sort of discount from him given he's put down roots here than a guy we'd grab via UFA. Lots of reasons Myers could be a good fit on a cheaper, shorter-term deal.
  7. He'd honestly be a good RD stopgap. There are plenty of reasons this could happen. Size, I've noticed that sometimes he gets thrown in the box more for his being physical as a huge dude than him crossing any line, but he does provide a size element that would be valuable on the third pairing. He's a known quantity in the room and on the ice, the Canucks know what they're getting from him and don't have to question how he'd fit they way they'd have to question how a brand new player would fit. He'll already know the team's systems and structures. He's been here a long time and he has roots out this way. He's more likely to give the Canucks a discount than other UFA's. From what I've gathered over his time as a Canuck he's well liked and a leader in the room. For example, he did try taking Virtanen under his wing. Expectations from Myers in a third pairing role at 2-3M are much different than what you'd expect from a guy making 6M. He's played as a top 4D most of his career, more than likely he'd be able to step up and play that role again in a pinch of injuries were to happen. It's good to have vets like him around, particularly for any younger D we keep hanging around the roster. It'd piss some Canucks fans off and I think that's a pro. Nothing like a bit of piss and vinegar to rile things up on discussion boards. I'm half joking, but it'd save someone else from being the whipping boy.
  8. Myers at 6M isn't worth it, Myers are closer to 2-3M probably is. I would not be surprised if he ends up sticking around.
  9. Considering he's not only an 11OA pick, but also a D, probably longer than some people would like. Folks expecting him to jump in and be a top four D sooner than later probably have unrealistic expectations imo. D prospects typically take longer than forwards to get going. Willander should be a very good player someday, but there's a good chance he'll need to stew and that he won't be an impact D right off the hop once he makes the bigs. The Canucks need him to be a hit, I hope they don't rush him because of NHL level team expectations.
  10. I get that they won a cup with the duck foot logo, but they should honestly just go back to the purple and the duck logo full-time. Keep the black/gold/orange and the foot if they want, but make it the third jersey. The purple is just so crisp.
  11. Hating the Blackhawks is the only ethical approach. Make Bedard a UFA, strip them of Bedard. Wasn't Chevy cleared? I thought he'd moved on to another organization and assumed the Hawks had taken care of it or something? Can't remember, I'd have to go through the CDC Hawks thread.. But yeah, no way should Quenneville or Bowman be allowed to return.
  12. I opened this thread and the first thing I saw was Rick Westhead's name. Fucking legend. Fuck the Hawks though, I can't emphasize this enough. Not remotely surprising that they'd be cover up more than on sexual assault.
  13. I expect them to be in the mix for a spot, could see them maybe getting a second or third seed spot if things continue to go really well. It's early, injuries will happen and more than likely we'll have losing stretches as well. But yeah, so far so good. Depth can be added as cap comes off, it's still an ongoing process. There's room for positivity, there have been encouraging signs, but it's early and we still have a lot to prove. Awards aren't handed out after eleven games and we're not a playoff team until we've locked down a spot. Folks should just enjoy the ride, at least it's been more enjoyable thus. Long way to go though. Winnipeg looked like a surefire playoff team or contender last season in January or February, they barely squeaked in by season's end. It's a marathon, not a sprint.
  14. Vegas beat them but that doesn't necessarily mean the Avs were bad, sometimes things just don't work out Gave up two shorties, couldn't beat Hill, still probably wouldn't bet against them in a seven game series Them, Colorado, or Dallas out west imo, those are the teams I've have in the top tier out west I'd have LA right below them These four have all been playoff regulars and LA's made itself better having added Dubois and Gavrikov, Byfield looks to be figuring things out which would be huge for them If Edmonton wasn't awful I'd have them there too, they may still bounce back I'd wager those four teams make the playoffs but after that it gets a bit more interesting We've started strong but it's early, all it'd take is a small losing streak for other teams to gain ground St. Louis wants to bounce back, Winnipeg squeaked in last season, Minnesota is solid, Anaheim has surprised, Arizona and Nashville have been decent, I expect more from Seattle, Calgary is a winning streak away from .500, Edmonton has McDavid and Draisaitl so I'm reluctant to count them out just yet Chicago and San Jose should founder, Bedard isn't carrying Chicago to the playoffs yet Conference is wide open and we're just past ten games into the season
  15. Pretty much, I don't think most folks who aren't optimistic Canucks fans had the Canucks having this kid of start. It's not as if we've had a great track record the last decade or so, I think most hockey pundits had us improving and maybe being a wildcard or third seed spot. Or somewhere in no man's land. Skepticism isnt unwarranted, neither is being pragmatic. Dunno why folks gotta be upset at hockey media for not waving pompoms and proclaiming this team as having turned things around after eleven games. Nothing wrong with overachieving, just enjoy it while it lasts. We're a Pettersson, Hughes, Demko, or Miller injury away from things suddenly looking very different. And yes, that is true for most teams, but these things happen and it's super early.
  16. Mark Stone is having himself a night against one of the leagues best teams in the Avs Two shorthanded goals, two assists
  17. When was the last time a team had ten goals scored on it two games in a row? Pens are up 8-1 with just over 13 mins to go, they could do it.
  18. They're playing the long game, grabbing a top tier BC talent to pit against us for years
  19. Rangers were lucky to even get a point, wild how impressive Quick has been for the Rangers thus far
