Sounds like it's working out pretty well for them https://thenhlzone.com/golden-knights-local-ratings-up-big/ Before the 2023-2024 NHL season began, the Golden Knights ended their relationship with their previous local cable partner, AT&T SportsNet, to move to a free, over-the-air partner with Scripps Sports, and so far, the move is bringing in extraordinary results. Through five regionally televised games, Scripps Sports is averaging a household rating of 8.5, which is a 135% increase when compared to all major telecasts last season. The most-watched game of the season came when the Knights beat the Dallas Stars in a shootout on October 21st that averaged a 10.5 rating. These numbers come with the great start to the season that the Golden Knights have had on the ice, with a 9-0-1 start. In addition, the Golden Knights streaming service, KnightTime+, has averaged around 1 million minutes of streaming for each week of the season, so far. For comparison, this is around 10,000 viewers a week watching games through the streaming service. Currently, the Golden Knights and the Coyotes are the only NHL teams airing games over-the-air with zero cost for consumers. With these results, along with more teams across different leagues moving to over-the-air partners amid the fallout of Bally Sports, we should only expect more NHL teams to join the Golden Knights in this process of leaving cable for free broadcast channels.

Flyers have had a promising start to the season, this could definitely put a damper on that if he's out for any length of time. -

Gambling ads, what else? Something something don't gamble your health by not wearing protective equipment.. The ads could even involve neck guards.. -
WHL announces mandatory neck guard protection
Coconuts replied to Coconuts's topic in General Hockey Discussion
We just had someone die because of a horrific accident, but accidents do happen. Nobody should have to die for change regarding protective gear to be implemented, but someone just did and it was a tragic and unnecessary occurrence. You're right though, the parallel between visors and so on to neck guards isn't as direct. Wouldn't surprise me if you were right regarding insurance. It makes sense for parents wanting youth hockey players protected too, hope more minor leagues follow suit sooner than later. -

I'm too lazy to bother looking into it, but if it's only been two we're lucky it hasn't been more. I know there have been other closes calls. Two is still too many though, should be an easy adjustment for players imo. Agreed, I hope to see more of this going forward. -

WHL announces mandatory neck guard protection

Hoping to see this occur in other leagues such as the AHL and NHL. Don't grandfather it in like visors were, make it mandatory right off the hop. Players will adjust. This is something the NHL and NHLPA should be able to agree on, it's a player safety bit. -
Figured this deserved it's own thread as it's quite a notable bit of news https://chl.ca/whl/article/whl-announces-mandatory-neck-guard-protection/ Calgary, Alta. – The Western Hockey League announced today the adoption of mandatory neck guard protection for all players, effective Friday, November 3 or as soon as the protective equipment is available to the Clubs. All WHL players will be required to wear protective neck guard equipment at all times while participating in on-ice activities, including WHL games and practices. The WHL anticipates challenges in delivery of protective neck guard equipment from licensed suppliers due to increased demand following the tragic passing of Adam Johnson. About the Western Hockey League Regarded as the world’s finest development league for junior hockey players, the Western Hockey League (WHL) head office is based in Calgary, Alberta. The WHL offers a world-class player experience featuring three key cornerstones: hockey development, education, and a safe and positive environment for all participants. A diverse and inclusive organization, the WHL consists of 22 member Clubs with 16 located in Western Canada and six in the U.S. Pacific Northwest. A member of the Canadian Hockey League, the WHL has been a leading supplier of talent for the National Hockey League for close to 60 years. The WHL is also a leading provider of hockey scholarships with over 375 graduates each year receiving WHL Scholarships to pursue a post-secondary education of their choice. Each season, WHL players also form the nucleus of Canada’s National Junior Hockey Team.

[Fired] Dorion out as GM in Ottawa

Wilson ain't getting any younger, but given his body of work in San Jose he could potentially be a good fit -
At least your Pettersson projection is realistic If Hronek continues to mesh with Hughes I think he could command more though imo Could see the Boeser projection being a bit more or less, but you're probably not far off if the Canucks elect to retain him Less sure about Kuzmenko if he rides shotgun alongside Pettersson and Pettersson continues to put up 100 point seasons The rest of it is probably pretty close imo, though I wonder if we'll actually be able to get a top four RD with 4.5M as the cap rises

[Report/Rumour] Elias Pettersson Contract Talks
Coconuts replied to Rubik's topic in Trades, Rumours, and Signings
That's just it, McDavid and MacKinnon deals are going to become more and more the norm going forward. Cap is going up, top players eat up a good chunk of any cap increases, it's just the way it goes. Hell, watch McDavid and Draisaitl either meet or exceed what Matthews just got. Hell, watch Matthews get more than he currently is once his incoming four year deal is up. I think some of it is longtime fans being shellshocked by the dollar amounts that are being handed out, but that was always going to happen as the cap rose. All of this also contributes to my believing those hoping for anything close to 11M in regard to Pettersson's next deal are either incredibly optimistic or experiencing wishful thinking. -

Coconuts replied to Rubik's topic in Trades, Rumours, and Signings
Yeah, Pettersson is putting himself into McDavid, MacKinnon, and Matthews salary territory as one of the top forwards in the entire league. At this point anything under 12M avg would be a bargain, but the longer he keeps this up the more likely it is that we'll be paying 12M+. -

Figured I'd put this here too, just recouped 250M if I'm reading this correctly https://www.sportico.com/business/team-sales/2023/nhl-canadiens-stake-sold-record-andlauer-1234744290/ -
But make sure you sing in a silly manner so listeners can tell it's satirical, otherwise we'll have fans complaining about how "we need a new goal song" is sung you know? Too much bass, too nasally, why couldn't they have hired a professional..

Can you record yourself singing "we need a new goal song" and submit it to the Canucks to be used as our goal song? I feel like that'd cleanly tie up any future goal song complaints given the fanbase never seems to be satisfied with any given goal song.
