  2. Particularly given he also won a cup in Washington. He's won his cup, secured his bag, and has roots in Washington. Now he can ride off into the sunset and help Ovi chase the goals record.
  3. Pretty sure I was proposing it in this thread at some point, the value of Mantha to the Canucks lies primarily in the fact that he's deal is up at the end of the season. It's not immediate cap relief but it'd have been a way to open cap sooner than later. The question would have been whether the Caps valued Garland over incoming cap flex.
  4. Not at the cost of Wilson, who is a rare breed of hockey player favourite as well as a fan favourite If the Caps wanted Garland they'd have him by now, Canucks would have probably happily taken back Mantha's expiring contract for example
  5. Goes further than that too https://www.nhl.com/news/phil-kessel-rick-tocchet-reunite-with-coyotes-after-trade-from-penguin-308132784
  6. So long as Ovi is chasing the goal record I doubt they rebuild. They may continue to tinker and transition around him, but I doubt they rebuild. Ovi is their all-time great, he's after the goal record, I think they'll do their best to help him reach that goal while trying to balance getting younger alongside it. It'd be more of what we saw last trade deadline, moving out players for picks and young players. Moved out Orlov, turned that into Sandin. Moved out Hathaway, Johansson, and Eller for picks. But they also gave up a 3rd and a 7th for Edmundson at 50% to beef up their D in addition to Sandin.
  7. Wilson has a 6.5Mx7 extension kicking in next season, he's not going anywhere.
  8. Why would the Caps move Tom Wilson given they just gave him a 6.5Mx7 extension? Won't even kick in til next season.
  9. He'll also be 30 pretty quick and has another six years on his deal I'd rather the Canucks not bring in or give significant term to anyone who isn't a core piece for the foreseeable future Pettersson or Hughes are the only guys I'd be throwing long term at, Hronek I'd give maybe 4-6 which would take him to roughly 32 at the longer end Demko's got another couple seasons after this one but I'd offer him 4-5 years as well Canucks should largely stick to shorter or medium length term deals, flexibility is important
  10. Pesce would be a piece they'd have to wait on though, at least in the short term Not sure Carolina would take that package anyway, hard to say where they're actually at with Pesce, wouldn't be surprised if they moved or extended him They could also just keep him as their own rental, though I'm inclined to believe that if he's moved it'll be to bolster their forward group Not interested in Hertl's contract even with retention
  11. I dunno about Zadorov, I know there are plenty of folks around here who like his size, and I know folks point to the Russian factor too. But I dunno, I'm not any more interested in becoming a Russian boys club than I am in our becoming a Swedish boys club. I know some folks immediately think "big d good", but I'd need someone to sell me on his underlying numbers. Tanev could be a bit too old, certainly. Canucks would be in tough to try and pry a prime-aged top four RD away from a team worth it's salt though. Any team that fancies itself a playoff team probably isn't moving such a player. I also question the wisdom of paying big to make an addition at this point, seems shortsighted a month into the season. I don't see us as a contender either, let alone a surefire playoff team. It's early, all it'd take is a catastrophic injury or two and we could be treading water.
  12. Flames are also likelier to try and retool than tear things down imo, and Andersson is the only D aside from Weegar who is signed beyond this season. Seems like a guy the Flames would want to keep, and the cost for the Canucks as a divisional rivial would likely be much higher. They've no reason to do us any favours. They'd be more likely to move Zadorov given he's a pending UFA, but he wouldn't come cheap either. I question what Tanev would cost.
  13. He gets memed on and I participate in it, but I legit back Kessel and have been for years. His accomplishments speak for themselves.

  15. Phil gets a bad rap but you don't become the all-time NHL iron man and produce the way he has historically by not working. I don't see why he'd be good enough for a team that's been a contender in Vegas but not good enough for us.
  16. Yes Kessel could be had for dirt cheap as a UFA, he's quick, he's durable, he can play a middle six complimentary scoring role, and he put up 14 goals and 22 assists in 82 games last season. I don't see why he couldn't slot in and produce here too. Season before he put up 8 goals and 44 assists in 82 games, the skill is still there. He's a three-time cup champ, he's a very likeable guy, and he'd be an easy addition. He'd also likely be great for the room, he's that kind of guy.
