  1. Yes, I made this thread for the sake of a joke
  2. Here's hoping It's just going to morph into more Bettman has a McDavid agenda stuff
  3. I've got a sinking feeling the Oil are gonna pull it off, I really hope I'm wrong though, we'd never hear the end of it.
  4. Maybe, but I just don't think the Flames should move premium assets for him. I guess it boils down to what the cost is, but I reckon they'd be better off taking their shots at the draft and being more patient imo. There will be forwards out there that they can sign, they do have the bones of a team that could be competitive as is, although goaltending is a question mark now. I wouldn't be shocked if he did, I think the Flames would need to play to his strengths offensively though. Clearly whatever was going on in Florida benefitted his numbers, and the talent is there. They have two very good D in Weegar and Andersson, the latter of which they should be extending asap. Bahl is a good get too. Their D will need some more work, but there will be no shortage of D available this offseason and they have cap to spend. Marner will likely want a raise on his almost 11M, any team that acquires him will need to be willing to pay. After handing out a similar contract to Huberdeau I question whether they Flames will want to throw around another such sum at a forward.
  5. It takes a lot of humility to admit when you're wrong Following your example, I will also admit that you were wrong
  6. I think Calgary's just going to have to live with those deals as they build up their youth, they've got a bushel full of picks and still have some solid talent on their roster I think they will try and be competitive, but I don't think they'll be looking to give up futures for players who aren't on the younger side, they can't rebuild with those contracts but they can certainly try to retool To his credit, Kadri may actually end up being solid value for most of his deal if he can keep it up They could probably get positive value back for Weegar too if they traded him sooner than later, assuming his play continues to hold up Huberdeau is the tricky one, I don't think anyone saw his drop off coming, and I'm not convinced the talent isn't still there What they may have to do is look back on what kind of offensive schemes he thrived under and adjust their approach to offense a bit, but regardless of what they do nobody's taking that contract from them
  7. I think that'd be a mistake for Calgary, they'd be better off staying the course. Hard to see them wanting to help out Treliving as well, I don't envision they'll be doing a ton of work with the Leafs.
  8. I'd be a little surprised if he opted for Anaheim too, but they're one of the few teams who could pay up a good price while taking on his entire cap hit. Saros to Toronto makes a lot of sense, but they opted to sign Woll. Thing is, given the number of teams looking for a tender they could probably just flip Woll. Optics wouldn't be great, sure, but Saros is one of the better tenders in the league. Nashville's also got some pretty solid prospects. Seattle's an interesting case, they'd probably be moving out actual salary pieces imo. Larsson's older but he's a player Toronto should have interest in, I think moving out found money in Tolvanen would make a lot of sense for Seattle too. Their pick is the 8OA. Honestly, that might be a bit much for Marner, they'd be wise to try and send out next year's pick. But maybe it'd be fair value, hard to say how much value that pick holds. But yeah, I could absolutely see Marner in Seattle, they could be competitive again next season with some tinkering.
  9. I'll spitball a bit with a few different teams To Toronto Zegras Zellweger or Gaucher To Anaheim Marner (extension in place) To Toronto Isles 2024 1st Leafs 2025 1st To Chicago Marner (extension in place) To Toronto Saros (extension in place) Rights to Carrier Molendyk To Nashville Marner (extension in place) To Toronto Larsson 2024 1st Tolvanen To Seattle Marner (extension in place)
  10. Good post, as much as I hate the Leafs Marner tends to get more flack than he deserves. Wouldn't be remotely surprised to see Anaheim check in on him too. Maybe something around Marner for Zegras+.
  11. There's only one Guentzel though, and the odds of him hitting free agency are pretty good. It may just be we have to go after a second liner+ regardless of what some folks would prefer.
  12. It depends on what management wants from their forward group as a whole, and from their top six in general. No, there aren't other players out there at JG's level, but that doesn't mean there aren't solid options out there not named Jake Guentzel either. Yeah, Tofu's a slower option. But guys like Marchessault, Stephenson, Monahan, Drouin, Tarasenko, Teravainen, and Debrusk could be interesting. Hell, you can consider older guys like Henrique and Perrson, or lower tier guys like Noesen, Foegele, Duclair, Sprong, Heinen, and Martinook too. Bringing Joshua back is an option too, although I think he walks. A higher end up and one of the lower end guys could bolster multiple lines. If they could bring in a higher tier guy, a mid to lower tier guy to fill Joshua's slot, sign Z, Myers, and another top 4RD that might result in a more rounded team. Obviously Guentzel is a higher end player, but I'm not convinced he's necessary and I won't be remotely upset if he ends up elsewhere. A better winger than Mikheyev could look like a lot of players though, doesn't have to be Guentzel. Hard to say what management is looking for. But yeah, if nothing else I think we need to bring in another top 4RD if possible. Having two legit top 4RD would be a boost.
  13. Yup, build from the net out. Which isn't to say don't look to bolster the forward group, but I'd lean more towards building quality depth than looking to add a top end guy in Guentzel. There are plenty of good forwards out there and we already have some high end talent for them to play with in the top six. I don't believe we need to go out and sign a star forward, we'd be better served adding a couple top six forwards instead of one.
  14. Probably, but that's also going to be true of any higher end options we look at. The fact that he's been able to thrive with higher end talent bodes well though, because he's be getting a first or second line role here. Guentzel is more of a dual threat, he can be both trigger man and playmaker, but he'll probably also cost quite a bit more.
  15. That'd certainly be ambitious, and fun to see. Garland's been a spark plug, but the flex of freeing up both his and Mikheyev's cap is appealing. I don't think I'd go after Guentzel, I'd also let someone else overpay Joshua. What I would do instead if look to bring in another top 4RD to play in the top 4 with Hronek. DeMelo, Roy, Walker, and Pesce would all be interesting. Options like Lyubushkin, Schultz, and Carrier would be intriguing as well. Point being, I'd reallocate some of the cap to our D. Ideally Myers isn't playing as a top 4RD next season.
