  1. Philly's a bit of a weird team, they were more competitive than people expected them to be but they should still firmly be in the process of turning things over. Hard to see anyone really wanting to head to the NHL's worst team via trade though, Cali living or not. Maybe they'd be able to sell him on a larger opportunity in San Jose though, he's only got a year left on his deal. What does Philly give up for such a favour though?
  2. I imagine they'll be retaining Durzi but a 1-2 punch of Hronek and him on the right side could set them up for years. Sure, they could go hunting via UFA but that's not a sure thing and Hronek's younger. Probably, it might even be better, that's a tough legacy to try and live up to in Calgary. If we did make the deal I'd hope that we'd use the pick, hard to see us drafting that high again sooner than later otherwise. Iginla would arguably be our top prospect, and it'd be a big infusion of talent into the prospect pool. If we're going to move a pick I'd much rather move one that isn't likely to be a top 10 pick.
  3. I'd probably do it, we'd just have to find a couple RD via UFA Iginla will probs be a stud, or someone else Lot of good prospects at 6
  4. Probably upper tier pieces, top line/top six forwards, top pairing/top 4 D, maybe a stud starter. Utah's in a unique position where they could actually be quite competitive sooner than later if ownership is actually willing to spend to the cap. The Coyotes brand was always hamstrung by ownership who'd pinch pennies and cap space. Utah's got a whack of assets, a higher end prospect pool, and a bushel full of picks, if ownership is willing to spend they're arguably an organization who could afford to overpay to get the guys they want too.
  5. He is, he's probably one of the more respected hockey media folks too. Thing is, lot of guys do the speculation nowadays as a way to drive traffic, to drive interest, to provide momentum within their careers. At the end of the day these media pundits are all working jobs, it just looks a bit different for them. I don't really have an issue with it, hockey media has changed over time, but for whatever reason it really gets into the bonnet of some folks. Folks don't have to like the speculation, or these sorts giving their opinions on things, and that's fine. But as someone who had free time around the trade deadline, as someone who was repeatedly stalking twitter and hockey socials, Friedman was frequently the guy who got to things first. It's not uncommon for him to speculate on something, or to say something is close, and then for it to come to fruition either.
  6. Hronek and a 3rd to Utah for the 6OA, extension worked out beforehand Draft Iginla and piss off Calgary Profit
  7. He'd be a good target if available, Florida has some tough choices to make going forward
  8. Sounds like the Tanev market is a hot one, not surprising but that's fantastic for him. Doubt he ends up back in Vancouver but I hope he lands somewhere where he'll get a shot at a cup. The Joshua bit isn't surprising either, they may very well have to look for a player who's not Joshua who could replace some of what he brings. Elliote spoke to the Canucks being an appealing team for players who play more of a Tocchet style, and that it could help them find players, I do think that's a fairly good point.
  9. If I legally change my name to Elias Lindholm can I accept the 7x7M in his stead? Sounds like it'd be worth it.
  10. I thought Tarasenko would be a good target but someone said his preference is to stay in Florida the other day, if he wins a cup I don't see why that wouldn't be true. It's also noteworthy that the Panthers were the only team he was willing to waive for. I also question what it'd take to move Mikheyev, do the Canucks retain cap to make it happen to bring down the cost of moving him or do they just eat the cost? Supposedly we were trying to move him at the deadline, our wanting to move on from him ain't a secret around the league. I do like the idea of DeMelo on a 2-3 year deal though, Roy or Pesce would be interesting too. And I must say, Forbort as a potential Zadorov replacement is something I haven't thought of, but something I do like. He doesn't fight much but he would bring an element of size to the back end. Between him, Myers, and Soucy our defense would still have a fair bit of size.
  11. It really depends on what the Canucks want to do with their D as a whole, there's an unusual number of legit top 4D out there who'll probably hit UFA. One has to assume that if Myers is brought back it's probably for more of a third pairing, 5D, sort of role than as a guy expected to play a top 4 role, going out and getting another legit 4RD might be the preference to adding on the left side where we already have Hughes and Soucy. Which isn't to say the Canucks don't want to keep Zadorov, he just might not be prioritized over another legit top 4RD. What happens with Hronek is another wrinkle, if he does end up being shipped out the Canucks may very well be shopping for two top 4RD via UFA. We can't assume we'd be getting an RD back in a Hronek trade. It could be tough to know how much give you've got with Zadorov with Hronek still presumably up in the air. It's not as a simple as just giving Zadorov whatever he wants when they've got other holes to fill.
  12. On Wednesday morning, Chris Smith of Icethetics revealed in his most recent “JerseyWatch” video that the Ducks will be rebranding ahead of the 2024-25 season. The immensely popular Mighty Ducks logo, which features a duck mask adorned by two hockey sticks, will be making a return as the primary jersey logo. Smith reveals that the logo will be revamped as well, with it being fully redrawn. Heavier lines emphasize the mask, which now contains an orange eye instead of a black one. The biggest bit of news from Smith’s video is that the Ducks will pivot from black to orange for the color of their home jerseys in 2024-25. Similar to the Philadelphia Flyers’ redesign last year, the Ducks will be adopting a darker shade of orange for their new jerseys. https://thehockeynews.com/nhl/anaheim-ducks/latest-news/ducks-making-the-most-of-orange-county-in-upcoming-rebrand#:~:text=On Wednesday morning%2C Chris Smith,as the primary jersey logo.
  13. Like I said, easier to keep him. But yeah, not at any price. We'll see how it works out, the Canucks clearly want to keep him, we'll see what the dollars and term end up being. Z ain't a point guy, absolutely, but that's why folks shouldn't be mesmerized by his playoff production. More often than not he's not that guy. He's probably a 4-5D on a very good defense, it'll be interesting to see if he's paid like one. Yeah, outside of Hughes Calgary's had a better defense than us in recent years for sure. I've no issue with him being a 4 here, so long as his contract reflects that. Yeah, if Z walks Dillon will likely be the target, albeit likely on a shorter term deal. Myers should be brought back, odds are we won't get a better RD for less than he'd probably be willing to take in Vancouver. If you have Myers as a 5D that's just fine. Z as a 4D is fine, no issue with that so long as the deal ain't outrageous. I'd really prefer a deal closer 4-5 years, even at a slightly higher cap hit.
  14. You'd have to ask Flames fans, but my understanding is he was more of a 5 in Calgary based on ice time. His first season there he played roughly 17 minutes a night, behind Andersson, Hanifin, Tanev, Kylington, Stone, and Gudbranson. Look at 2022-2023 and he averaged about 18:41, behind Andersson, Hanifin, Weegar, and Tanev. This season he averaged about 18:24, behind Andersson, Hanifin, Weegar, and Tanev. https://www.hockey-reference.com/teams/CGY/2022.html https://www.hockey-reference.com/teams/CGY/2023.html https://www.hockey-reference.com/teams/CGY/
  15. I get that, I just don't see him as being the only D out there who could do this. Although it's easier to keep him, certainly. I think there are plenty of folks who are blinded by recency bias a bit. Yeah, he put up 8 points in 13 games this past playoff run, but let's be real, he's not that sort of player most of the time. Zadorov is a guy entering his 29-30 age season as a D who's never cracked 22 points in a season. Last season he put up a career high 14 goals, but that's also the only time he's scored more than 7 in a season and he hadn't done that since 2018-2019. He's big, he hits, and so on, fantastic, but he's not the only D out there who could do those things if he walks. I just don't view him as being irreplaceable the way some folks believe he is, which isn't to say I have an issue with us retaining him at the right price. Realistically he's maybe a guy who plays top 4 minutes, hits, fights occasionally, and maybe hits 20ish points. I certainly wouldn't be giving a player 6x6M to do that. If others view him as a keep at all costs sort of player, even if that requires an overpayment, more power to them, but I don't. If his deal lands around 4.5-5M over 4-5 seasons I doubt there'd be much complaining, but once you're into 6-8 at 5M+? Yeah, that's not as appealing.
  16. Even six years seems like a bit much, if he's retained I'm hoping it's closer to 5x5M max, maybe up to 5.25M. I understand why folks like him and want him retained, but it seems like he's been mythologized a bit around these parts.
  17. Money. Teams like Anaheim, Utah, and Chicago can overpay when it comes to cap, term, and overall dollars. Guentzel would be a great running mate for Bedard for example, and Anaheim's GM is on the record saying he wants a top six forward to help take the burden away from the younger guys. Guentzel already got a cup in 2017, the idea that he could be swayed to a less competitive team by dollars isn't outlandish at all. Utah could be competitive sooner than later, they're asset rich and have a ton of cap flex, I wouldn't be so quick to write off their competitive chances. Anaheim's got a lot of high end young talent and a good chunk of cap flex as well, they'll be a wagon eventually. Even Chicago could surprise if they're smart about how they manage their assets and cap, having a player like Bedard is a game changer. San Jose seems less likely, but Anaheim could absolutely pursue Guentzel.
  18. Haha, no kidding eh. Being able to shut down teams come playoff time critical and players who can do that are very valuable.
