  1. I dunno if that'd ring true for him drastically more than other young NHL'ers who come from upper class beginnings though. My understanding is that folks don't like Zegras because he's flashy, has a lot of personality, has a bit of a mouth, and because his hype hasn't matched his body of work thus far. Problem is, he ain't responsible for that hype. As far as players go, betting on talented youth ain't a bad thing to do and he's certainly talented. I don't think any team who brings him in would get a different person than the one he's been as a Duck, but I do think there's a good chance he matures like most other men as time goes on. It's one of the things I find a bit odd when folks discuss young prospects and NHL'ers, it's almost as if folks forget how young these guys are, yet there seems to be a pattern of folks expecting young men to also act like seasoned adults while being the ultimate professionals. This ain't what you were doing of course, but I've noticed it a lot on hockey forums over the years. Sometimes it comes across as older folks complaining about young guys acting like they're young, when that's exactly what they are.
  2. If they project him as a 1-2D it'd make sense, Anaheim's the real winner here though. They don't have to make the tough choice, they just have to wait. I'm glad we've made the playoffs again, but I'm envious of Anaheim's stacked pool of prospects and young NHL'ers. Their rebuild has been going on for a while but they're likely going to be a wagon down the road.
  3. I wouldn't be upset. Kesler was prickly as a Canuck and could be an ass and most of us loved him while he was here. Burrows, Lappy, Bieksa, they weren't liked around the league either. I think the dunking on his personality is overblown. Just because someone's a bit of a douche doesn't mean they're a piece of shit, and he's only 23. I'm sure there are plenty of folks around here who were also a bit of a douche at that age.
  4. Solid offer but I'll be a little surprised if that gets it done
  5. One year remaining, 5M cap hit, I'd be surprised if they didn't get something solid for him. He was always the better Granlund, good for him.
  6. Fair, I would personally never. I'd prefer him at four years, five would be the absolute max. I'd rather pay him more in the short term to keep the term down. It's not just about what he's done this season but what he'll do going forward, I'm skeptical as to what he'll be worth at 34-36. I hope the Canucks are on the same page, managing which deals expire when is important but so is having deals that'll ideally age well for the most part. We may diverge on how we think he'll age, and on what he's worth.
  7. Competitive, sure, but I do think they'll be on the gradual downslide. If they adjust their strategy and accept that their days of clear cut contention are done they may be able to avoid Pittsburgh's fate, but they'll have to change how they approach drafting and picks. They can compete in the present, but they should really be looking to the future going forward.

That's good to hear, could have been a thing more specific to Nanaimo but that's definitely the rep VIHA has I've heard mixed things about VIHA in general, about how the talking heads don't communicate well, the work loads, the bureaucracy and so on, but I've also heard they can be good to work for I suppose it also boils down to what your role/job title is too though And noted, but it could be a while
  9. Depends on the pick they can get back imo, there are some very good prospects who'd be available in the top 12 for example. But yeah, I see the appeal of getting a known quantity. Hard to say what Tampa does, Point's locked in long-term with a NMC and it's hard to see Kucherov ever playing for anyone else. Hagel and Cirelli are moveable though, Sergacev and Cernak too at some point too, if Tampa really begins to stink sooner than later. Vasi, Stamkos, Kucherov, and Hedman probably all retire Bolts though imo. I do really think they find a way to get Stamkos done.
  10. I think he could end up being a complimentary middle six producer, but that'd place a lot of emphasis on him actually producing. I think Raty's got a good shot at being a bottom 6 player, I'd be surprised if he amounts to more though. It'd be risky to move him prior to the draft without a sure thing coming back, but you never know. It really depends on what the Canucks are willing to stomach in terms of a deal though. Tampa's probably going to suffer the same way despite Point and Kucherov still being prime aged, they're going to pay for the success they've had and I think the slide has already begun. If not for Kucherov having an absolute monster of a year they probably don't make the playoffs this season, he drug them there.
  11. He might fetch Pittsburgh's 2024+ or Vegas's 2025+, but certainly not a San Jose 1st
  12. I like the odds of Willander being a top 4D, anything more than that though, I dunno, here's hoping. I could see Lekkerimaki developing into a stud, a middle six player, or a bust, none of these would surprise me. Talented prospect though, absolutely. Would love to see us acquire a 1st somehow, having a barren stretch similar to the Pens would have things starting to look ugly as time goes on. Pens fans are fortunate they got their cups because they've likely got years of pain coming.
  13. That's fair. Though I do view Myers as more of a maybe, he's a guy with a history of being a top 4D but that applies to Dumba as well. Ideally he's more of a 5 going forward as a Canuck, but when injuries hit he wouldn't be a bad guy to have around. Maybe a weaker team has to play Dumba up the lineup, given how lousy the Sharks were this season it wouldn't surprise me if he was a Shark next season.
  14. I'd look at it more as Pettersson being 26 in November and Hughes being 25 in October, so 6-7 years is probably pretty accurate. I'm hoping Allvin does things differently, actually picking in the 1st round could help our window. JR's scenario with the Pens was a bit different, having future hall of famers in Crosby, Malkin, Letang, and Fluery already in house. JR has three years to go, assuming he's not back after that, hopefully Allvin takes on more going forward.
  15. I always kinda wondered why he left, turns out he stepped into Big Wreck the same way Dave did, as far as I can find he hasn't done much since But I'm remembering things now, Thornley morphed into Big Wreck after Brian stepped in all a fill-in guitarist for Thornley
  16. Eh, I view it more as Tampa having had limited options given their lack of picks/prospects to ship out, if they got him and a 7th for a 5th teams clearly weren't lining up to acquire him. It was Cernak, Perbix, and Dumba on RD, not shocking that he got minutes. Though when they were at their best Tampa was stacking their left side more anyway, which is probably why they're trying McDonagh again.
  17. It's a weird thing, but it's drummers that have come and gone the most since Ian and Brian started Big Wreck back up, the current guy they've got played with him on the first Thornley album though Otherwise it's been pretty stable since Big Wreck came back, their bassist has been with them since 2010, Paulo was 2010-2017, and Chris was only really brought in after Brian died of a cancer I like their current group of guitarists, though I've yet to see them with their newest drummer
  18. 18 game sample size, Tampa's D overall also isn't as impressive as it used to be, they also got him for a 5th Seems like his stock has fallen the past couple seasons
  19. Lot of D out there absolutely, how many of them are legit top 4D at this point is another thing entirely though imo Maybe Myers, Dillon, Demelo, Pesce, Skjei, Tanev, Walker, Zadorov, Gostisbehere, Hakanpaa, Roy, Montour, Carrier Not sure what Dumba is at this point, same goes for OEL despite his season in Florida Some of em are on the older side, some of em will be retained by their teams
  20. He's a bit of a unicorn despite his age, someone will likely give him a raise on his current 4.5M for 2-4 years.
