  1. I have my concerns about Demko's health, but I don't personally see Silovs as an heir apparent, I reckon he's probably more of a career backup sort of guy. Had a good stretch this past playoffs but it was still a small sample size, sometimes guys just get hot. Nothing wrong with that, every team needs a backup. Without a clear cut heir in the system I think a Demko signing is probably inevitable. We'll see, the concern with his deal wasn't really that he'd immediately fall off a cliff, it was moreso about diminished returns as he ages. Maybe a rising cap mitigates some of that, we'll see how he does.
  2. Maybe, but I'd personally be a bit surprised if Boeser is moved during his prime if signed Boeser's never had any kind of trade protection on any of his deals thus far, I'd be a bit surprised if that continued as well, there's been some pretty intense trade speculation in the past so I could see him pushing for a NMC I like Lekkermaki as a prospect but it'd take quite the development to have him turning into a bona fide NHL top 6 winger sooner than later, we'll see what happens
  3. Don't think we could afford what they'd ask for Andersson. Vancouver 1st's project to be middling or late, they'd want Willander or Lekkermaki on top of any 1st.
  4. I don't think it'll be a problem, the same way I didn't view Pettersson's deal as a problem. We're spoiled by the fact that we have a franchise D for the first time in Canucks history, having to pay the piper is a good thing. We saw it a bit when Pettersson signed his deal, folks want to have the high end young talent but don't want to pay for their production and accolades. Even with a discount of sorts Hughes probably comes in around at least 13.5M imo. We should be thanking our lucky stars we'll have a premier top of the league sort of D who can command 13-14M. Lot of cap off the books between now and then too, only five deals currently go beyond 26-27. Boeser and Demko are the only guys I'd consider sure things to get extensions beyond that point too.
  5. He's definitely been one of the league's better defensive players, that's just been a tad overshadowed by his playing with one of the best two-way forwards ever most of the time
  6. Don't think Kadri would work, they've gotta assume Krug will play again at some point given he's got three seasons left on his deal They could use a better 2C than Schenn though, certainly Blues are in a weird place though, they've been bolstering their prospect pool in recent years and seem to be in more of a retool, but they're also probably firmly behind Dallas, Winnipeg, Colorado, and now maybe even Nashville in the central Gotta wonder if they don't just sit on the space and eat expiring deals at the deadline if they're out of it in order to acquire picks/prospects/young NHL'ers
  7. I guess we'll see, the proof will eventually be in the pudding. Is he the regular 100+ point sort of guy or is he going to be more a high 80's to 100 point guy? Either way the contract will probably age well. Some of last season can be blamed on linemates, but we'll see how things play out. As for the Selke bit, dunno, I get the sense Barkov will probably have a death grip on it for a while the same way Bergeron did, he's absolutely the player to beat for the forseeable future.
  8. If he hit 1k points he'll be a lock imo, so he only needs about 70 points. Back to back 67 point seasons, suited up for 82 games last season, he's on track to be ready for the season after getting some stuff fixed.
  9. Even if he's not a steal, I reckon it'll be good value as he gets older. He should be approaching his peak prime years right now. I fully expect both Hughes and Makar to go for the money, as they should imo. I remember both him and Pettersson sitting out, he'll get his. But that's normal now, I think some folks are still trying to wrap their heads around cap hits of 10M+.
  10. I expect he'll probably at least begin the season without an extension, if it looks like he's coming back down to earth offensively I could see his side wanting to get a deal done sooner than later. What'd really be interesting is if his projections had him somewhere more in the 60ish point range than the 40 or 80+ he's demonstrated thus far. 11-12M is probably a good ballpark though. I do wonder if Draisaitl hitting 14M will have some folks softening on Pettersson getting 11.6M though, their difference in age is quite stark despite Draisaitl having the track record of being a top 5 sort of franchise player forward. Pettersson will be 26 in November, Draisaitl will be 29 in October. Elite tier players tend to age better, but that term.. oof. Could see Hughes and Makar getting Draisaitl money in a few years though, maybe a tad more depending on how the cap keeps jumping.
  11. He's probably a top 4 guy despite the flack he gets, but the problem is he was paid like a #1 instead of maybe a #2-3 back in 2021. He's not a top pairing guy in Edmonton, if he played like one maybe the deal wouldn't look so cumbersome. It'd cost Edmonton to move him, it wouldn't be cheap. Thing is, he probably wouldn't want to go to a team with the space for him such as San Jose or Columbus. Bouchard will probably get the 10-11M other higher end young D are getting. Back to back 40+ point seasons before his 80+ point season last season. Thing is, he doesn't have the lengthier track record of a guy like Dahlin, who has played on a weaker roster in Buffalo. Be interesting to see what Bouchard actually is next season.
  12. The biggest problem for Edmonton is that Nurse contract, given he's got a NMC for the next three seasons they can't even just ship him somewhere without his consent. Players with NMC's have been moved, but it'd put Nurse in the drivers seat regarding any potential destination. He'd be pricy to move though, no doubt.
  13. That does seem true to a degree, although I'd assert that the redneck aspect isn't quite the same as whatever goes on in Alberta
  14. A ferry attached to Gabriola likely wouldn't resonate with the inhabitants of Gabriola either, the island has a rep for being kindy hippy, Gabe even moreso. We've already seen the island become a suburb of sorts for the mainland as is.
  15. Remember this deal going forward, Leon is a top tier player but this deal will affect what other top six players ask for Could very well see Hughes in this range a few years down the road if he keeps it up
