  1. Yup, and that's not even a negative take, it's just the numbers. Which isn't to say DeSmith can't play well and that the Canucks can't win, goaltending is just a critical position in pro hockey. Demko is one of the best goaltenders in the league when healthy, but in recent years he's been injured more, which could be cause for concern going forward.
  2. That's concerning for both the short and long-term, knees are huge for a tender Demko's got two years remaining on his deal, gotta wonder about his health going forward and how that may affect any extension
  3. Wonder if he's reaggravated what held him out all that time or if it's something new, which also leads to me to wonder if he should have been held out longer to begin with. Was he fully healthy when playing those final two games of the regular season?
  4. On the upside, it's not as if DeSmith hasn't been playing regularly lately Big ask to step up come playoff time though, and DeSmith is no Saros The Canucks still have the horses to win but this does give the Preds a larger chance in the series, no bones about it
  5. Popular bits that involve the crowd almost always get copied though, NHL organizations are in the entertainment business. We were famous for the towel bit, which led to towels at games, other teams have been doing the towel bit in the playoffs for years now too. Every fanbase across the league does the wave, or various similar bits, every arena DJ tries to involve the crowd, all of those things started somewhere. At the end of the day things have to start somewhere, it doesn't really matter who did it first.
  6. Doesn't exactly align with what the Canucks have done with the ring thus far, the Canucks have used the ring to celebrate and acknowledge players who made a lasting impact on the Canucks. It's about Canucks not about the rest of the league, one doesn't need to have won awards or have been a cream of the crop player to have been important to the Canucks organization. Using recent comparables, Burrows was never a top of the league player either, he was a top six winger, he's in the ring. Ohlund was a top pairing D for a while, the same way Edler was, and led Canucks D in most categories until Edler supplanted him. Using a couple older Canuck examples, Gradin was a top six player during the 80's, but didn't put up numbers that had him towards to top of the league in the 80's. Still finished as the highest producing center in Canucks history though, he was an impactful Canuck. Snepsts was a top four D similar to Edler, and led the Canucks in games played and penalty minutes at one point. Edler's supplanted Ohlund regarding Canucks offensive records and passed Snepsts in games played. He played over a hundred more games as a Canucks than Burrows. One can attribute it to his longevity as a Canuck in part, but Edler is one of the best D in Canucks history as far as numbers go, and if anything his loyalty is to be commended, not used to diminish his accomplishments as a Canuck. Edler's one of seven players to play 800+ games as a Canuck, and one of only four to play 900+. Kesler played 665. It's tough to reasonably argue that Kesler should be in the ring but Edler shouldn't be, he should be, and I've no doubt he'll get there.
  7. With all due respect, what the hell are you talking about? It's baffling that you'd say Kes is a ROH guy and then exclude a much more tenured Canuck in Edler. Kes wanted out, Eddie stuck with us through most of the tough years with little to help him on D beyond Tanev. Edler is 4th all-time for Canucks with 925 games played, every other guy ahead of him is in the rafters. Quinn will pass him eventually but he also leads Canucks D in goals with 99, and in assists with 310. He's 12th all-time in points for Canucks, and leads all Canucks D, with 409. He's 10th all-time in playoff points, 8th all-time in playoff assists. 4th in playoff games played, 2nd in playoff points for D.
  8. I'm sure many would, but privilege tends to buffer some folks from wartime realities I'd imagine, and at the end of the day it's his home I've no doubt there are those with privilege and wealth who have left though
  9. I guess that explains it, but that's still a high number for an unproven guy
  10. Handsome payday for three NHL games played
  11. https://www.nhl.com/devils/news/meier-undergoes-shoulder-surgery-blog
  12. Well that was a bummer, hopefully they get the next one, if they go down 2-0 they'll be in tough
  13. Him and Mac, tough for any team to stop once they're flying
  14. Maybe, gotta actually get there first Series ain't over either, LA may very well win
  15. This game is a great examplar of how McDavid can take over a game, and a series Was hoping for from LA tonight
  16. Vegas has their LTIR talent back but I'm not sure they want to be trading chances with Dallas like this, Dallas is much likelier to clamp things down defensively imo
  17. Wonder if they turn to Sorokin next game, Canes dominated that final frame and outshot the Isles every period. Giving up three goals in seven minutes doesn't look good but goaltending is actually what's held the Isles in each of the first two games. Varlamov is the last guy I'd be blaming tonight. If the Isles want to stretch this series they're going to have to find a way to spend more time in the Canes zone, and get more shots on net.
