  1. The bitter comments about Boston are always entertaining. I don’t think they see Vancouver as a rival. While I do wish Zadorov and Lindholm all the best, especially when they play the Leafs, I must also recognize them for what they were: pure rentals that cost the organization assets.
  2. I’ll flip that on you. We don’t know if Bure would score the same totals he did back then in today’s game. Back then the NHL was much more high scoring than it is today.
  3. Another injury to Demko and the Canucks might have to start contemplating life without Demko. What an incredibly short peak Demko had.
  4. It’s my understanding that Podkolzin is precisely that cheaper alternative that the Oilers were looking for to remedy an already top-heavy forward group. I fully expect them to now unload a more expensive contract via trade, even if it means giving up more valuable picks to entice a team to take on some cap. With that said, I agree that this is a better scenario than the more Benning-esque route of losing someone for nothing.
  5. Not saying Podz deserves a high pick, but we couldn't squeeze anything more valuable out of them knowing the predicament the Oilers are currently in? This, mixed with the Ceci trade, and now the Oilers can match Broberg and Holloway. The NHL just bent over for Edmonton once again, FML.
  6. The answer is a no brainer. And the fact that so many people can see how much more valuable Hughes is renews my faith in CDC.
  7. Bure may have been more of a game changer but I’d still take Hughes. I don’t think people realize how rare it is to draft a bonafide #1 D with quarterback abilities, and also have the possibility of keeping him (barring disaster) for his entire career. At the rate he’s scoring, and considering he’s only 24, I don’t think any other Canucks defenseman will ever break the records he’s going to set for a very, very, long time.
  8. I’m not convinced by the line mate excuse tbh. His new contract makes him one of the highest earners in the league, you simply have to be a line driver at that price. Zero excuses. Petey’s got the regular season figured out, I’ve no doubt he’ll succeed there next season. My hope is that fans wait and see how he does in the playoffs, which is where (imo) his Achilles heel is. There’s no use in a player putting up a 100-point season if he flamingos the playoffs.
  9. We’d be doing Hughes - and this team - a disservice if we were to make Desharnais Quinn’s season-long partner. Many posters complain about not getting the most out of Pettersson due to his line mates. We’d essentially be sentencing Hughes to the same fate if we paired him with low-quality defensemen.
  10. 40+ point scorer for under 1M is great work no matter how you look at it. Seems like a "show me" contract, which means we may or may not be able to retain him beyond this coming year if he gels and produces.
  11. They did come at a cost though. Many posts are missing that in their analysis. Which is my issue with rentals: your future takes a hit. There have been many teams - Canucks included - that have taken much longer to rebuild because they bet the farm on rentals and it didn't pay off. I've never been a fan of rentals and I'll never advocate for them unless we're literally on the last year of a window and it's all or nothing. And even then, it's a big risk.
  12. Demko is a bit up in the air for me atm. He's becoming very injury prone lately. We may end up relying on Silovs a lot more if this persists (or may end up diving into the goalie market earlier than expected).
  13. I loved that he was dominant for some time despite all data telling you otherwise. Any course on analytics should include a compulsory component on Kuznetsov.
  14. I’d be bummed if we didn’t resign Brock. I’d even get rid of Petey before getting rid of Boeser.
