  1. Meh. It is what it is. With respect to Jim Benning, he's not relevant to the Vancouver Canucks' organization in 2024. We have a chance to do something really special in 2024 and so let the ghosts of the past be buried there. 1982 1994 2011 2024 12 - 12 - 17 - [within range?] I've never been more confident in a President-GM-Coaching staff as I am now. The Canucks are due for a run here within next 4 years in my opinion, and I'm confident that our current powers-that-be will lead us there.
  2. I would lean towards 'no' since it would likely cause too much of a negative distraction. I'm also not sure if Perry's speed/skating, at this stage of his career, would be a good fit for Tocchy hockey.
  3. Couture is definitely interesting but he's going to be fairly rusty (think - Mats Sundin in Vancouver in 2009). Unlike Sundin however, Couture is going to be locked in long term which might be quite risky. For me, although Couture sounds interesting, Elias Lindholm as a rental would be my #1 choice. First of all, he's Swedish (which in and of itself will give Patrik Alvin a nice 4 inch erection). More importantly however, Lindholm won't have rust and could help us right from Day 1. The other thing that I love about Lindholm, is it gives us options at the end of the season. We can either walk from him, or sign him (likely as a contingency just in the very minor event that our negotiations with Pettersson do not go well and we need to move him). I think a deal of Lindholm for Podkolzin, Myers, and a 2024 1st should be fair for both sides. It would be similar to our Tyler Toffoli deal from a few years back. Pettersson-Miller-Boeser Mikheyev-Lindholm-Kuzmenko Joshua-Bluegar-Garland Hoglander-Suter-Lafferty PDG Hughes-Hronek Zadorov-Soucy Cole-Juulsen Friedman Demko DeSmith
  4. To San Jose: -Kuzmenko -Mkheyev To Vancouver: -Couture -Duclair Pettersson-Miller-Boeser Duclair-Couture-Hoglander Joshua-Bluegar-Garland Aman-Suter-Lafferty
  5. Maybe move someone like Myers with a minor sweetener for cap space.
  6. For the record boys, neither would I. I'm just taking the piss on a slow day trying to create discussion. :-p.
  7. True, but with one fell swoop, we’d have some really good players signed to our top 6 for the long term and could potentially be a serious threat for multiple years.
  8. To Buffalo: -Andrei Kuzmenko ($5.5M @ 2 years) -Ilya Mikheyev ($4.75M @ 3 years) -Tom Willander -Jonathan Lekkerimaki -2024 1st Incoming cap = $10.25M To Vancouver: -Alex Tuch ($4.75M @ 3 years) -Dylan Cozens ($7.1M @ 7 years) Income cap = $11.85M New look Canucks: Pettersson-Miller-Boeser Suter-Cozens-Tuch Joshua-Bluegar-Garland Hoglander-Aman-Lafferty PDG Hughes-Hronek Soucy-Myers Cole-Zadorov Juulsen Demko DeSmith
  9. The Vancouver media initially anointed Brendan Leipsic the Canucks' version of Brad Marchand during the Boston Bruins penis fetish era of 2011-2017.
  10. Just revisiting this idea a bit: Vancouver-Columbus: To Vancouver: -Cole Sillinger -David Jiriceck To Columbus -Tom Willander -Jonathan Lekkerimaki -Auty Raty -?????? So, we “downgrade” from Leo Carlsson to Cole Sillinger and focus solely on Columbus. Could something like this ever work? Would it be worth it on our end? My gut says “I doubt it,” but meh. Who knows.
  11. I can’t see AZ saying yes to that unfortunately
  12. @Elias Pettersson, You are correct. Neither Anaheim nor Columbus would have any reason to make this deal since those aforementioned young players are on the cusp of superstardom. While Willander and Lekkerimaki have shown tons of promise of superstardom, their probability of reaching that level, as of this current writing, is still far more of a question mark. Now having said that, I'm still wondering if the principle behind this idea could still work. Willander + Lekkerimaki for a young elite player that is still on an ELC.......a player that could help the Canucks both long term and also in the here and now. Now, for the sake of your argument, this player obviously can't be someone like Carlsson, Fantili, or Jiriceck because like you said, why would those GM's give them up? On the opposite end of the spectrum, trading Willander + Lekkerimaki for........Shane Wright per se would be idiotic from our perspective. Shane Wright<----------------------------------------------Ideal Target---------------------------------------->Jiriceck/Carlsson/Fantilli So, I guess my question, which player in the league would that fit that bill? Someone that is young, on, an ELC, and really fcking good, and could help us both short term and long term, but isn't quite a superstar. My guess is that no such player exists (Mason McTavish? Cole Sillinger?) and that we'd likely just be better off holding onto what we have, but who knows.
  13. Funny you mentioned Eriksson-Ek (as an aside, are we all sure that we want another Swedish Eriksson back in Vancouver after what happened last time? ;-)) In all seriousness though, Eriksson-Ek would be fantastic but there’s no way Minnesota would ever give him up since he arguably has the best long term cap hit in the league (and he’s still youngish). Would love him for to be here but I can’t see it happening.
  14. Good points but if we’re operating under the assumption that the Canucks’ have a finite window (between now and 4 years from now, all of our main young core players will either be UFA’s or RFA’s), then perhaps acquiring prime Hertl would make sense? The Hertl/Boeser comparison is a good one but a couple of things to bear in mind: 1. Tomas Hertl is a center and centers, as we know, play a more important position. 2. Hertl has an excellent two-way game which would fit Tocchet’s system. 3. Hertl’s point total might be a bit understated these past few years since he’s been a part of some very sub par Sharks teams. Maybe that changes if he were to come to Vancouver?
  15. Tomas Hertl from San Jose? 1. What would his acquisition cost be? 2. Although he is signed for the long term, would we be able to make it work from a long term cap perspective?
  16. Myers, Podkolzin, 2024 1st, and maybe a 2nd?
  17. coincidentally, I’ve been asking myself the following question: Is there any young budding superstar out there that plays C, is on an ELC, and is currently playing in the NHL…….that perhaps could be acquired if we packaged both Willander and Lekkerimaki?
  18. Miller-Pettersson-Kuzmenko Mikheyev-Suter-Boeser Joshua-Bluegar-Garland PDG-Lafferty-Hoglander I’m wondering if the above line combos could still give us a legit top line while still paying attention to the depth of our Top 3 lines. What better way to get Kuzmenko out of his funk by playing him our two best forwards? The Garland line remains in tact and continues to obliterate the sphincters of other 3rd lines. The Mikheyev-Suter-Boeser line becomes our new match-up line. Suter and Mikheyev are exceptional defensively and have just enough offensive skill to burn teams. This would be further amplified with Boeser as the RW. I guess what I’m saying here, is maybe we don’t need to trade for a second line C?
  19. Yes unfortunately, that would be the catch 22 here. Our pipeline would take a MASSIVE hit, but the flip side of this is that we'd likely have guaranteed long term core players that could help us both short term and long term. Carlsson and Jiriceck would not only help us be cup contenders both short term and long term, but their ELC statuses would also help us when OEL's cap hit peaks (along with the raises that guys like Petey, Hronek, etc.) would get. By the time those guys needed post ELC contracts, a lot of our current contracts (i.e. Myers, Kuzmenko, etc.) would come off the books. But yes, to your point, hastella vista to our prospect pool, lol (although given that we'd have many young core players under this scenario, there would be plenty of time left to rebuild this pool).
  20. Fair points. My only concern right now is that we don't really have a 2nd line C if the Lotto line have re-united on a permanent basis. Suter and Bluegar are good bottom 6 centres. Now, we could always trade for someone like Lindholm, etc., but players like that would be tough to sign long term (and we'd have to give up significant assets for these rental types). Hence, my idea, that if we're inevitable going to trade picks and prospects to go for a cup run, we might as well get ELC guys that are cost controlled and a little further along the path. With a guy like Carlsson here (or Fantilli, or whoever), we could re-unite the lotto line, play Suter and Bluegar on bottom 6 roles, and ultimately have a long term option at the #2 C spot. p.s. - If not Jiriceck, then maybe someone else of a similar mold that could possibly be had for cheaper.
  21. Thanks, haha. Bear in mind that these ideas will never come to fruition but it's always fun to ponder. Carlson suffered a sprained MCL in December and will be out 4-6 weeks but return well before the playoffs (in his purely hypothetical convo).
  22. In a hypothetical conversation that we are not really having, one of the Canucks/Ducks GM's makes the following offer: To Anaheim: Tom Willander + Jonathan Lekkerimaki + ??? To Vancouver: Leo Carlsson. Do you make the deal? Miller-Pettersson-Boeser Mikheyev-Carlsson-Kuzmenko Joshua-Bluegar-Garland Hoglander-Suter-Lafferty PDG Hughes-Hronek Zadorov-Myers Cole-Soucy Juulsen Demko DeSmith So let's say that the above takes place (for better or for worse). Alvin then decides to continue to try and trade "4 green houses for 1 red hotel" so to speak. To Columbus: Podkolzin, 2024 1st, Hunter B To Vancouver: David Jiriceck (maybe not Jiriceck per se, but some big young stud d-man that's on an ELC) (I have no idea if the above is fair value or not by the way). Miller-Pettersson-Boeser Mikheyev-Carlsson-Kuzmenko Joshua-Bluegar-Garland Hoglander-Suter-Lafferty PDG Hughes-Hronek Zadorov-Jiriceck Cole-Soucy Myers Demko DeSmith And yes folks - I have in fact lost my marbles...........but does the team above become a cup contender both short term and long term?
