Forsig doesn't bother me, he took 3 more chances to find his game past us.

Gads does tho. Green was trying to save his job on that one.

    Maybe.

You win some you lose some.

Don't believe me?  Ask Caitlin Jenner.

My point being is that we can't do anything about the past, and we can only control what's in front of us.

This is the best Canucks team that we've had since 2013 and there's a chance that we do something special starting in April.

It would be worth considering for sure...

My concern with giving up on Lekki and/or Willander is, we don't really have an influx's of ELCs with ability to cover or help us out, while OEL cap hits the hardest... No doubt the Tkachuk trade would be well worth it, if we, as you say, could make it work cap wise in particularly long term.

Brady Tkachuk on a line with Hogs and Petey... Drool... Our two top lines would be deadly.

It's one reason why I've flirted with the idea (internally) about moving Mikheyev + one of Lekker or Willie for someone like Crouse.  We get a *significant* upgrade on Mikheyev but it doesn't really affect us from a cap perspective since Mikheyev and Crouse basically have the same term and money.

As much as I would like to Buchnevich suot up next to Petey, no way are we going to let go of neither Lekki or Willander. Pods and Hogs likely beither as we need their cap hits going forward.

Only way I’d give up one of Lekki or Willander was if Lawson Crouse or Artem Zub was involved (ie. Great players at a great cap hit with great term).

I’d probably give up both Lekki and Willander for Brady Tkachuk if we could make it work from a cap standpoint short term and long term).

I remember when Nonis was ready to sell the farm to draft him

I remember when Nonis’ 4 chins got an erection at the idea of bringing in “can’t miss prospect” Fabian Brunnstorm to the fold.  Nonis also wanted to blow up the farm for Brad Richards.

I get what your saying...most teams deploy (or used to) a shutdown line.

That's what Joshua, Blueger and Gnarly were put together for, they found their grove and started producing at a secondary rate. Oddly enough while not giving up much defensively. Personally I feel that's what's throwing off our lines right now. With Joshua out I feel all the lines have been put into a blender trying to see what other combinations work, without much success. The way that line plays is contagious IMO.

It's made me realize how important Dakota is to this team (and how he plays), I'd make him a priority signing in the offseason.

I didn't think I'd ever say that before his injury, but he feels like a glue guy for this team. JMO though

I’d reunite that line and put Podkolzin with them while Joshua is out. [edit - Podz went back to the -; put PDG there]

    Miller-Pettersson-Boeser

    Mikheyev-Lindholm-Suter

    PDG-Bluegar-Garland

    Hoglander-Aman-Lafferty

Lindholm is fine, he's a professional on a expiring contract.

Which "should" mean he's gonna want to play his ass off cause he's playing for his next contract.

Any suiters are gonna want to see if he's a playoff performer or if he disappears when the games get tough.

It's in his best interest to play well whether we resign him or not.

IMO he was traded for skill, depth, defensive game, right handed faceoffs. PP, PK & Insurance....

but he was always a rental IMO unless he clicked and took his game to another level.

Still time left for that to happen I suppose, but the clock is ticking.

I'm more upset with how our coaching staff have used Lindholm thus far.

For some reason, our coaching staff got it in their heads that we needed our top two lines to be offensive threats.........without fully considering the fact that we were already getting ample secondary scoring from the Joshua line and the 4th line with Hoglander.  There was absolutely no reason to split the Lotto Line.  Pre-Lindholm trade, our 2nd line was useless, but we weren't being hampered in any way.  With Lindholm here, all we needed to do what put Lindholm with Mikheyev and Suter and form an elite shut down line (I am and was of the belief that this line, despite their offensive challenges, consists of three players that are amongst the best defensive players in the league) .  Give Mikheyev-Lindholm-Suter the toughest defensive assignments + give the Lotto line more offensive deployment.  It was that simple in my eyes.

Instead?  Our coaching staff thought it would be fit to have Elias Pettersson and Elias Lindholm form a man on man penis on penis relationship in order to create a baby.  For god knows what fucking reason.  Our 6-7-2 record since the All-Star Break speaks for itself.   The Canucks literally had no problems with secondary scoring whatsoever and they literally create an issue out of a complete non-issue.

So, this post isn't directly hockey related, just wanted to say that I appreciate you guys.

I was sitting last night, watching the game with my dad as his life wound down. I was watching, doing my best to give him play by play and hoping he was still hearing it at least.

Even when we disagree, I still appreciate everyone here and the fun distraction this board provides. Thank you again to @Ribs and the rest of the moderator team for keeping the board going and giving it new life.

Anyway, just wanted to say thanks and that you're all appreciated, even when you disagree with me, at least we're talking hockey and unwinding.

He passed away about an hour after the game last night, but at least they won for him!

    One thing I'll suggest.

Don't be ashamed or hesitant to seek a grief counsellor.

They are trained professionals and can help you expedite the process of feeling better.

Keep open lines with as many close friends and family members as well.  This will also greatly assist you during this time.

Many fans say he's not more than a 6.5 million dollar defenseman.

But the question is, do you want to blow a hole in your lineup in the most coveted position in hockey for 1.5 million dollars ? I sure as hell don't. Give him 8 million, try to go 4-5 years max. And if he wants term, structure it as buyout friendly as possible and just sign him. Give him and his asshole agent 8 million. I don't even think 8 million is an overpay. Its a full pay. Anything more is an overpay. But 8 isn't.

Do we really want to go back to those days of "oh but that defense" , for 1.5 million dollars. F*** that. Every discussion around this team started with "but the defense, the right side" until and only until we got Hronek. And he played up to and even above his acquisition cost.

I've already heard some retorts to this. "oh , this management can just find another Hronek" Yeah right. That was a risky trade and we are lucky it worked out. We will be trying to fill that hole with 5th or 6th defenseman and hoping that they over achieve. And it will just be poverty on the back end again.

Hronek should get paid like a #2 defenseman (riding shotgun on a top pairing) would normally get on the market.

We should absolutely pay Hronek because him and Hughes are the only legit top pairing calibre defenseman on the team.

We don't have a true #3 calibre d-man (I am of the belief that Soucy, Zadorov, etc. are #4 calibre d-men).

So yeah - we should pay Hronek.

Why do you think guentzel is going to move the needle that much?

    I don't to be honest.

I just think that with all of these "Canucks are trying to move Lindholm" rumours that have been thrown out there (with Lindholm aware of these rumours), it may have already created a toxic situation since Lindholm now knows that the Vancouver brass don't want him here anymore.......and that perhaps he was nothing more than a potential contingency plan if they had moved Pettersson. Hopefully, I'm wrong.

Guentzel is out. I’d go after Toffoli. Adding Toffoli plus keeping Lindholm should be enough up front. Maybe add Duhaime to the 4th line as well.

    Suter            Miller            Boeser

    Höglander   Pettersson    Toffoli

    Joshua         Lindholm      Garland

    Duhaime       Blueger        Lafferty

Can this forward group win the Stanley Cup?

NJD mentioned that Toffoli was off market.

I’d prefer one of your ideas that you mentioned many months back:  Lawson Crouse.  Crouse has term and a great cap hit.  He’s the type of guy that I’d give up one of Lekker or Willander for.

    Thank you buddy.

    Onwards and upwards.

Youre going to be in a massive amount of pain obviously but you will progressively get better week to week month to month.

You’ll see him again one day.

Are we really arguing that a 100 point player is a star but not if they score their points in bunches?

    Not exactly.

What I, and 43isPrime I believe, are saying, is that Petey is really going to have to work on his consistency in order to truly be elite.

As proven, elite players can go through peaks and valleys during a season, but Petey has been quite extreme this season relative to those players that 43isPrime mentioned.

You take away those first 10 games and JT Miller, and Petey has looked closer to PPG than a 100 point guy.

  13. One of

    -Myers

    Combined with one of

    -Willander

    -Lekkerimaki

    In two separate deals for

    -Lawson Crouse

    -Artem Zub

    Your cup winning team:

    Suter-Miller-Boeser

    Crouse-Pettersson-Lindholm

    Joshua-Bluegar-Garland

    Hoglander-Lafferty-PDG

    Hughes-Zub

    Soucy-Hronek

    Cole-Zadorov

    Demko

    DeSmith

We blow up our farm and bring in two guys that are signed long term at sweet heart cap hits.

    Will this happen?   No.

Have I made your day more interesting?  Probably.  But again, this is the burden that I carry in life.......the burden of the unbearable weight of immense trade proposal talent.

The whole point is to have 4 lines that can each be the go to line on a given night depending on the circumstances of the game. a first line and 3 2b's.

parking Hog and Pod on what can only be called a 4th line with Lafferty or Raty is not putting them in a position to develop. I think if we balance our lineup we can shelter Hog Pete Pod so they can dunk on weak competition. If teams try to counter by putting stronger competition out against them Miller and Garland lines will feast. Having Lindholm run a pure shut down line takes those duties off of Millers plate opening up opportunities for him to play more agressive. 4 lines on any given night could play 20 mins is the goal for longevity in the playoffs.

Paying $11.6 million to Petey so that he can avoid tough match-ups and 'dunk on weak competition?'

    I'm not sure about that.

I think we might need Petey to do a bit more than that.

He's not a "3rd line player" for sure.

But if he doesn't mesh with Petey and/or isn't driving his own 2nd line, we do indeed need a 1st line winger more than an overpaid 3C (how we've been playing him). We always needed a top 6 upgrade, if management feels Lindholm isn't filling that hole, I have zero issues with them moving him for someone who does.

We have the Miller-Boeser (+complementary guy) top 6 pair. We need a Petey-"someone" (+complementary guy) top 6 pair.

What I envisioned (and still envison) for Lindholm, is to have him, Mikheyev, and Suter form a super shut down line that takes on the toughest defensive assignments for us (which would allow a re-united Lotto Line and the Garland/Bluegar line more opportunities for offensive deployment).  Despite their offensive impotence much of the time, all three of Suter, Mikheyev, and Lindholm are among the best defensive players in the NHL.

In case someone from the Lotto Line were to get hurt during the playoffs, you could put Lindholm on that line.

Sometimes, it takes a while for a player to acclimate to a new environment.

Flipping Lindholm and trading even more young assets to get Guentzel just doesn't make sense to me............especially in light of the fact that this Canucks team looks more 2012/2013ish than 2011ish imo.  This team is going to sink faster than Michael Jackson at a Chuck E Cheese if we go up against Colorado, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Vegas, or Florida in the playoffs.

  16. 9 minutes ago, Captain insano said:

Are you alright….. you’re calling a guy a clown for pointing out how Vancouver is deploying a player “that’s your quote” on assumption Lindholm should be first line with petey?

I never called him a clown.  I've read many of his posts and like and respect what he usually has to say.

Just in that particular instance, I think what he said was a bit clownish.  Lindholm has been a bonafide Top 6 player for most of his career.  Playing a few games on the 3rd line with Garland doesn't "all of a sudden" make the guy a 3rd line player.

    Apologies for the confusion.
