  1. With a fully healthy defense (which hardly ever occurs by the way), I'd have Myers be the 7th d-man. Move on from Myers at the end of the season.
  2. I think you just answered your own question as to why this would probably never go down. On top of that, I'm not sure if Calgary will have the option of going into rebuild mode with Huberdeau, Weegar, and Kadri all signed long term. Huberdeau and Kadri will be difficult to move and so I'm not sure if rebuilding would be an option for them. Also, with Tanev and possibly Hanafin on their way out at some point, Calgary is going to need to hang on to some defenseman. I don't see why Calgary would give us Andersson.
  3. I was interested in Larsson a couple of years ago but he's 31 now. I wouldn't mind Larsson but I think there are better and younger options out there. I wonder if Seattle would be open to moving Will Borgen?
  4. On twitter one time, to deliberately troll Oilers fans, I claimed that the 2011 Canucks would demolish any Edmonton Oiler team in their prime, and that Gretzky would be a 3rd liner on the Canucks playing behind Henrik and Kesler. I started receiving DM'd death threats, lol.
  5. Kuzmenko would likely fair much better under Edmonton's 'run and gun' system while the Canucks would get significantly physically stronger up front. If Tocchet is looking for a guy that will forecheck, then Eastvander Kane will definitely check the boxes here. While Kane is currently a much better player than Kuzmenko, his age and longer contract would make him a riskier investment than Kuzmenko......and hence, possibly making the deal fair. I don't know if Edmonton would have much reason to make this deal but perhaps it would make sense for the Canucks?
  6. One thought that had crossed my mind: 1. Completely commit to Brock Boeser and lock him up long term. 2. Package Kuzmenko and Lekkerimaki in a 'hockey deal' of some kind for a youngish power forward left winger. End result = Pettersson (C), Hronek (D), Boeser (LW), Miller (2C) and *LW'er* all locked up long term. Hughes (D) and Willander (D) would eventually join the long term list as well.
  7. What do you guys think we should do with Brock? Possible reasons to keep Brock long term: On the one hand, Boeser has clearly rediscovered his passion for the game and seems to be flourishing under Tocchet. Boeser hasn't looked this good in a long time. He snipes, he passes, and is playing a very solid 200 foot game. On top of all this, Boeser is the longest standing member of the Canucks. Brock Boeser is also 26 years of age, and it was around this age that the Sedin twins and Naslund took leaps in their game. All of these are possible reasons for keeping Boeser. Possible reasons to move Brock in the Summer: Unlike Garland and now Kuzmenko, it might be easier to move Brock in order to navigate through our cap challenges. Clearing cap would allow us to comfortably sign both Pettersson and Hronek long term while possibly bringing in another key piece in a more pressing position. While Boeser is having a terrific year, skating has never been his strong suit and a strong argument can be made that the game will only get faster from here on out. How effective will Brock be if the game gets faster while Brock simultaneously starts to slow down with age? Also, Boeser has a good heart, but we saw how drastically his game was affected when his father suffered health problems. Now obviously, a parent's ailing health will affect anyone and this issue needs to be treated with great sensitivity, but players do react differently to these types of situations. If Brock experiences another personal tragedy, will he go back to being the player that we saw over the last two seasons? My personal opinion: As much as I like and respect Boeser, I think I would lean towards moving him in the Summer. Canucks need cap flexibility and Boeser's history suggests that he's too inconsistent to warrant receiving a long term deal. [EDIT - I've changed my mind after reading this thread + thinking more deeply about this issue. I'd probably be inclined to keep Brock as of this writing].
  8. There's no way Petey gets you both Jack and Luke. Petey alone couldn't get you Jack 1-1. Jack Hughes has one of the best contracts in the league with his $8 million dollar long term cap hit. Pettersson on the other hand, will likely get somewhere between $10.5-$11 million, and isn't really a class above Jack in terms of overall talent (even if Petey is better than Jack, it's marginally.....if he is at all).
  9. Exploring this idea a little...... To Buffalo: Pettersson + Myers + [??? a significant pick/prospect] / Pettersson = signed to an extension right away in Buffalo To Vancouver: Cozens + Power PDG-Miller-Boeser Kuzmenko-Cozens-Mikheyev Hoglander-Suter-Garland Joshua-Bluegar-Lafferty Power-Hronek Hughes-Soucy [Just to be clear guys. Hughes would still be our #1 d-man. This would just be a way of 'spreading the depth'] Cole-Zadorov Demko DeSmith I realize that I'm going into EA Sports territory here but in theory, I do like this idea for the following reasons: 1. We get two young assets signed long term for what will likely be an extremely good cap hit. 2. We cap our internal cap structure in-tact and in an indirect way, set the culture for this team. JT Miller would be the highest paid player on the Canucks at 8 million. There would be no 11-12 million dollar players on our team for a very long time (Hughes would be the next guy, four years from now). With the internal cap being intrinsically tied to our team culture, the Canucks could invest in more depth and build a very deep team. What's in it for Buffalo? Their team could become a massive free agent magnet, with UFA's possibly even willing to take a discount to be a part of a long term winner. Why? Because Buffalo would have both a franchise C (Pettersson) and franchise D (Dahlin) signed long term (the potential drawback being that both players will have a high C.H% relative to the overall team).
  10. Hughes-Hronek Cole-Soucy Zadorov-Gudbranson Would definitely meet the requirement of being big and nasty. Having said that, I'd probably pass on any Garland-Gudbranson related offers.
  11. Sorry my bad, I thought Pesce was already 30 (and that a hypothetical new contract would kick in at 31). But still - the idea of acquiring Pesce for me makes little sense. Like you said, acquiring Pesce would cost the Canucks significant assets, and then he could just as easily walk at the end of the year (unless we offered him a contract that would likely be unfavourable in terms of the term and money that we'd likely need to offer him.......and given his age, more than half of that contract would likely be for a past-his-prime Pesce). So for me, it wouldn't be a very good idea.
  12. Why would Carolina trade Pesce? Pesce is also on the wrong side of 30 and will be looking for a long term deal. I'd rather try and target someone like Rasmus Andersson or Will Borgen.
  13. I have a better proposal: To HFCanucks: CanucksFanForever + 1st round pick as a sweetener To CDC: 2028 7th round pick + bucket of chicken #GeorgeCostanza
  14. Kuzmenko, at best, gets you Chris Tanev if you're lucky. (and we're talking about the older, broken down, 2023 version of Tanev by the way........not the Tanev that we remember). You're on dream street if you think Kuzmenko is getting you Pesce.
  15. A few thoughts: 1. Buchnevich only has two years left on his deal and so for me, trading any combination of Hoglander (who has taken a leap this season and seems to be growing his game), Lekkerimaki (who has looked very promising), a 1st (Benning de ja vu?), etc., just doesn't make sense. 2. We need to be realistic as to where the Canucks are as a team. Yes, we had gotten off to a 10-3-2 start or whatever it was, and yes, even I started drawing comparisons between the current Canucks team and the "Golden era" 2010-2012 teams. Unfortunately, we aren't anywhere near that. We are a lot closer to 2006-07 / 2014-15 than we are 2010-2012. At best, we are 2008-09 / 2012-13. Even with Buchnevich, we aren't on the same level as teams like NYR, Boston, Colorado, and Vegas. From a points percentage standpoint, the Canucks are about 7th-8th right now in the NHL. To me, it makes absolutely zero sense to be trading multiple young assets (picks and/or prospects) for a guy that will only be here for two years. So, from my perspective, it makes far more sense to continue to draft and develop well while filling the pipeline. Rutherford and Alvin have done an excellent job with this so far and they should continue doing it. Sign guys like Hronek and Zadorov long term. See what they can do with Pettersson. Give Hoglander more opportunities. And so forth. Myers dropping from the books next season will give us some options. Yes - I agree that there comes a time when a team needs to "make a push" and trade picks/prospects for an elite piece to make a run for the cup, but the Canucks aren't there yet in my opinion. The last 10 games have clearly shown this. So even with me, with all of my previous Rasmus Andersson ideas, I just don't think we're in a position where we should be doing this. Speaking of Petey, I'm almost at a point where I'd be willing to tell him to kindly fuck off if he's not willing to sign a reasonable deal. Injuries or not, Pettersson has shown the last 10-11 games as to why he's not on the same level as the true elite players of the game. If Petey is playing injured, then he's being selfish by "trying to play for a contract." If he's not injured, then it further goes to show why he can't be trusted being a franchise player. Petey's lacklustre play at the start of the 2021-2022 was a massive reason why the team stumbled out of the gate. I'm not sure what's going on with Petey but maybe he needs a guy like Will Smith to slap him.
  16. To NYI: Pettersson + Myers To Canucks: Horvat (eeeeey!) + Pelech
  17. You know what's funny? I was actually on the verge of creating a "Pettersson proposal idea" thread earlier today but then deleted it half-way because I didn't think it would fly on here. With my Laine idea in another thread, I wanted to limit my shitty ideas and so I deleted half-way. But - having said that, I like your thought process a lot. Like you said, Norris is signed long term to a good cap hit. My concern with Pettersson is that if he 'strikes gold' this off-season and gets something north of 11 million, it will be difficult for the Canucks to build depth in their line-up.....the type of depth that wins you a cup (see Chicago, LA, and Pittsburgh from 2010-2017). All of those teams had relative low C.H% to their top players which allowed these teams to invest heavier in depth. Ditto for both Boston and Vancouver in 2011. The proposal I had in mind from earlier today was Cozens and Power from Buffalo, but your proposal is probably more realistic.
  18. Only two people to blame here: 1. Franceso Aquilini 2. Jim Rutherford. Thankfully, Jim Rutherford realized how badly he screwed up in this situation and decided to fade away behind the scenes after the Boudreau fiasco. This is when Patrik Alvin *really* took over the Canucks and no longer had Rutherford's hand up his ass. Alvin has been incredible for this franchise and I really love many of the moves he's made, along with the current coaching staff. While I feel for Boudreau (and genuinely do hope that both Jim Rutherford and Franceso Aquilini go to hell one day when they die), I think Alvin has been an absolute god-send to this team and I expect this trend to continue.
  19. To Buffalo -Garland -Myers -Willander -Podkolzin -Lekkerimaki -2024 1st To Canucks: -Rasmus Dahlin
  20. Another possibility is that Laine needs a good centre to play with. Make no mistake about it. Roslovic sucks on the ballsack of a Nigerian. Prior to this year, Laine was playing with guys like Jack Roslovic, Caitlyn Jenner, etc. Even in Winnipeg, he only started sucking once they moved him away from Scheifele. With Scheifele however, the guy looked like the 2nd coming of Alex Ovechkin. He had 16 goals in a month one time. Now, would it be risky to acquire Laine given his cap hit and style of play? (i.e. potentially not meshing well with Tocchet). Absolutely - which is why I probably wouldn't make this deal.............BUT................BUT...............BUT IF we had the Elias Pettersson that we saw the first 10 games of this season + 2017 Patrik Laine............BOOM goes the fucking gas tank. And then you'd have Miller and Boeser on the other line. We would absolutely be a threat to teams like Vegas, NYR, and Colorado in terms of cup aspirations.
