No Thank You to Laine
I understand why you'd consider it given the potential (on paper) but...way to many ways it goes wrong IMO.
He's only played 2 full seasons in 8 years.... Since 2020 he is averaging 43.75 games a season. He's averaging 35.25 points a season over those same 4 years.
You have to play CAP gymnastics even with retention to make it work,,, and give away assets to do it? I'm not sure how he is in the locker room, heard he can
be a little standoff(ish) and quiet, But that might have more to do with the other players he was playing with in Winnipeg.
Don't know that he'd fit Rick Tocchet's system quite frankly... just to many ways it could go wrong.
We may as well hold onto Garland's 35 points a season. At least he plays a full season, drives play, makes less and by most accounts is well liked in the room
and plays the way Tocchet likes. Not to mention we get keep all our draft picks.
I agree that we could use 1 more upgrade in the top 6 ...but Laine doesn't seem like the right fit (to me).
Canucks have a great identity going and this off season affirmed that. Would rather be patient and wait for the right players to add rather than hurt team chemistry.

One other that’s worth noting is how important turnover can be. I think there’s a lot of hungry returning Canuck players, but the new faces also have a lot to prove and will up the compete level.
I see a team that comes out hot right out of the gate

Overall pretty have w free agency. Canucks stuck to their balanced, pita-to-play-against identity. Some intriguing adds that have a chance to pop if they mesh well w the team/coaching staff.
Hearing RJ talk highly of Smith is interesting.

Good day imo, only want is someone to play with Petey.Maybe Debrusk is a fit
I want to see Petey w Garland/Joshua. That’s a line that could do some damage.
Debrusk w Miller & Boeser could an absolute handful.
Hoagie and Heinen seem best suited for third line mins/match ups

very interesting add. he’s a guy I can %100 see playing very well under Foote/Tocchet’s well structured systems

Interesting add given Bug Z and Dillon signed elsewhere. Provides some meanness which is nice
-
Him and Wilson should be interesting. Duhaime is a certified nail gun

With Jake it’s all in btw the ears. Must have known what he’s coming into and bought in (Tocc’s system and expecations). If he’s 100% on board he could turn into a nice winger w petey

And I guess they need to sort out their tendy situation too

Word on the streets is that DeBrusk will sign in EDM which is fine w me. He still has a lot to prove and isnt worth a hefty wager yet.
I think some good depth will raise the floor and allow Miller, Petey, Boeser and Hughes to continue to push offence. Garland/Joshua cement themselves as key contributors too.
Martinook, Duhaime, Sherwood would be good grinders to add. Duhaime would add some meanness upfront. maybe Duclair for scoring help if he seeks out the Canucks. Dillon and Kylington on the back end.
-
Martinook, Duhaime, Dillon, would all be nice adds.
Would help give the skill guys w getting the puck and strong defensive play. See if Bains or Podz can pop a bit offensively

He was my plan B if things with Hronek didn’t work out, so all good.
-
Unless Canucks get a ripping deal I say save some cap room and be patient for an impact scorer.
Dillon, Duhaime, Sherwood, Raddysh, Kylington are guys Id be interested in
-
At least he’s out east and not in LA

I wonder if the Canucks try to sign Taylor Raddysh? They are desperate for RH RWs and he would be a buy low option that fits w how Tocchett wants to play. Hopefully he’s interested in the team/coaching staff here

Just thinking out loud. If we aren't going to use free agency, time to trade a core player to fill out the roster.
Those guys don't move the needle much. Solid cheaper guys, that all come with a premium. Wouldn't it be better to get some more legit players and let our cheap guys fill those roles?
I like them for their dependability and they help fill roles. Keeps the floor high.
Unless the Canucks can nab a talented UFA at a great price, Id be ok w saving some cap room, seeing how things go with some of the new faces, and see if any other opportunities come open up via trade etc.

Call me crazy but I’d like to see the Canucks just chill on July 1.
Make offers to:
Dillon 3.5 x 3 years
Foegele 3.5 x 4 years
Duhaime 2 x 2 years
Tack on an extra .5k if you need to
or go cray-cray and sign Guentzel idgaf

Dillon is awesome. Great player on and off the ice. Moves pretty good for a big guy. W no big Z this is the guy I really hope they sign

Taking a bit less to re-sign in VAN knowing how high the expectations and scrutiny will be (internally and externally) after signing his new deal makes me think Dak is ready to be that consistent, reliable pro. No more bad off seasons etc. Wants to be a major contributor for this group and im glad to see it

Going to be interesting who wins the 24-25 rat king award. Hoglander, Garland and Sherwood are solid candidates
