  1. So I havnt really waded into the Olympic boxing controversy mostly because I believe I lack all the information to make an informed decision. In some respects I think this grey area Im in is being worked out in real time as we speak in Paris. It could be that what is occurring and all the “discussion” around it might end up causing much more stringent categories in the future, and yet in turn lead to those categories being redefined again. I dont know for sure but thats what Im spit-balling. However I find it hilarious to me though are these commentators who have a clearly conservative agenda, talking about athletes being killed etc etc. These people know F-all about amateur boxing with its standing 8 counts and bias towards athlete safety, not to mention glove size and filling, and highly regulated hand-wrapping. Further, sometimes in boxing opponents are outmatched regardless-thats just how the sport goes sometimes. People are making all sorts of inferences and reading into things who, lets be honest, dont know **** about boxing.
  2. All things considered Canada has had a decent amateur program, but compared to historically strong programs (USA, UK, RUS, China, India, Soviet-era countries) the financial investment and sheer number of fighters vastly outweighs Canada. It’s just a whole other level of internal competition. In Canada due to our geography, we rarely get to see fighters from out east and vice versa unless its a qualifier for nationals, PAN-AM games etc. But Canada has produced some pretty good athletes despite the odds, just not as consistently.
  3. Im getting absolutely crushed by some sort of influenza in late July….what the frick

@madrigal77 That's the one... I believe one of the names for it is Flirt... Greece was actually warning tourists about the upsurge in cases in their country and the increased number of hospitalizations they were seeing. Yet you'd swear Covid was gone, over and done with according to hack Henry... the numbers are rising at a time they shouldn't ordinarily be seen... but ya know... it's over. Those of us who've got it this summer would beg to differ...it's NOT done and over...it is nowhere near finished with us. Please be smart, people.
This variant is smarter... I wish I could find the article I was reading that said it's even more contagious and there's a mutation in the spike protein that they suspect is allowing it to circumvent the vaccine somehow.

@Ghostsof1915 my wife and I still do - and also anywhere where we would expect that there would be crowded conditions.

My son is getting hammered too... negative for strep and COVID. 😕

I feel so bad, all he wants to do is play hockey but can't in the middle of the summer... because he's sick.

  4. Thinking about forward lines after all the new additions and it’s tough. It could be a really competitive training camp if the players put in a good off season.
  5. If youre familiar w Shawn Porter, he’s long advocated for getting former fighters to become refs. Sometimes trained refs dont understand glancing/blocked punches but that’s more so on the professional side. It used to be on the amateur side you would have 4 judges, one on each side of the ring and 3/4 had to input “score” when a punched landed/scored. Based on your description maybe that system has changed and judges have independent scorecards now. Been awhile for me since Ive followed the amateur side closely. Ill have to watch the fight you referenced
  6. Dont have a ton of time atm but Id love to check out some of the boxing
  7. I dont know a lot about the other potential democrat VPs, but I really like Pete Buttigieg. Sharp mind and a great listen.
  8. Fair price. Konecny does a lot more than just score points in a sub par Flyers team. Dude is a massive play driver and culture carrier. As long as he can maintain his intensity into the later parts of the contract this is a good keeper for Philly
  9. Tocc is such a beaut. I see the new guys meshing really well w his staff
  10. Maybe not as explosive as prime Ferland was but definitely appreciate what he brings
  11. *whew* not that Harris is a homerun vs Trump either, but she’s the better candidate. Havnt heard from her too much in my limited US politics viewings but hoping she has the charisma and cojones to swat away Trump. man that would be terrible
  12. Cant argue w the price. Hopefully he comes in knowing/willing to play up to the staples the team has established. Competition should be fierce come training camp
  13. Personally Id rather keep a spot two for the young guys to try and grab // maintain cap flexibility if something interesting pops up (like on the back end). I think the FWD group looks pretty good right now and Sprong not being a great fit anyways
  14. Im really happy with how the team looks this off season. New guys will add some hunger and more energy to the line up. I trust in the returning players to prove last year was no fluke
  15. 4D chess move is Marner plays lights out in the reg season and Treliving TDLs him for a much better playoff performer ++
  16. I liked Z, mostly because he plays the game within the game to a tee. It gives the team an edge 100% That said, as a player he can be replaced. His playoff goals were awesome but fluky. He’s unique though. If he’s a committed athlete for his duration in BOS hats off to him. I really like the new guys that were signed. There’s some potential there for this team to be a serious pita next season.
  17. A healthy younger Ferland would have been a treat to have
  18. Going to be interesting who wins the 24-25 rat king award. Hoglander, Garland and Sherwood are solid candidates
  19. Canucks have a great identity going and this off season affirmed that. Would rather be patient and wait for the right players to add rather than hurt team chemistry.
  20. One other that’s worth noting is how important turnover can be. I think there’s a lot of hungry returning Canuck players, but the new faces also have a lot to prove and will up the compete level. I see a team that comes out hot right out of the gate
  21. Overall pretty have w free agency. Canucks stuck to their balanced, pita-to-play-against identity. Some intriguing adds that have a chance to pop if they mesh well w the team/coaching staff. Hearing RJ talk highly of Smith is interesting.
