Last night was like watching a chess match play out. CAR forecheck aggressively. I noticed they like to have 2 FWDS up and parallel with each other. Third FWD hunting for the break out pass. It gave the Canucks a headache to start but eventually they were able to just chip the puck out past it. I was really impressed with the patience and poise they showed to only take what’s given/not force risky plays. Canucks won a game based on the details and philosophy preached by the coaching staff. It really was a ‘team’ win.

He had two plays at the blue line that I thought were needlessly risky. I was wondering if Tocc might be fuming. That line in general isnt clicking though.

Credit to the Canucks, I think they were the ones frustrating the Canes (when they wernt shooting themselves in the foot).

CAR passes the puck so well and skates hard-a very seasoned team. Every Canuck is going to have to be on their A-game tonight.

CAR gonna be pissed tonight. I thought they looked awesome in CGY despite the loss.

If the Canucks were to add Tanev and Konecny, (jettison Myers and Garland), they could hang w the contenders all day.

Funny enough RT said “let’s start w that (forecheck).” Prior to this year, Boeser just didnt have the conditioning to be effective w/o the puck. I suspect something similar is going on w Kuz. I do like Kuz on the PP. I just dont know if he has the luxury of time though. Very curious what Allvin and Milsteins conversations are like right now.

Id also like to see PDG back in the line up. He’s rested and will probably look a lot like he did earlier in the season. That’s probably the thing to manage for him this season-fatigue.

Expecting your FWDs to forecheck hard isnt an unfair expectation imo. Any Canuck regardless of skillset can and should do that. That’s how you want your team to play. The whole Tocchett narrative stifling Kuz because of defensive expectations is silly imo. He’s been very explicit about understanding the strengths of his players. That said, being a floater doesnt let you of the hook for basic team play expectations. Boeser has been one of the best stories so far about embracing RT’s philosophy.
