Yeah you can see the AB teams trying to pile it on the Canucks and bury their confidence from day 1 - Smart thinking if so. I can't remember ever seeing as strong rosters put out in G1/2 of the preseason. Yeah 2-5 starters might be in there, but icing 3 top lines + D pairs and full PP - not sure i can remember an instance of that for both game 1 and 2 ?

Wouldn't it be Karma if McDavid and Drasaitl injury each other in a on ice collision and are out for 3-5 months each 🤣

Shouldn't matter much as i think from the Nux POV I think we need to focus on tuning up the systems and building chemistry for the starting team now.

We gave the fringe players a chance to see what it takes to play in the NHL and they learned that lesson in one game the very hard way. The skill level is high, its completely unforgiving and if you dish up that kinda hungover pond hockey performance your never gonna succeed in it - take the year in the A to reflect on that failure.

Sure give the few that missed out on that shit show and the 2-3 that didn't look complete ass a few more try outs but need to focus now on hitting that first game of the reg in the best shape possible.

well theyre just burying the confidence of the abbotsford canucks which really is just a bit of a dick move, graphic below to illustrate

Quinn Hughes' 6th season here (5th full season) and we're still struggling to find him a full-time partner. In the mean while, Tanev still looks great...

I can't see McWard making the jump from rookie to 1st D-pairing just because he is a RHD but stranger things have happened.

i didnt watch much of the calgary game but last year, when i watched mcward he looked kinda out of place in our lineup. feels like its setting him up for failure to expect him to be nhl ready AND qh partner this year. let him cook for a year in abby at least.

myers is "ok" with hughes, i think you let myers or one of the lefties have the job for now, sign bear in december, and have bear play that role from december onwards.

Fit? He can replace Myers on 3rd pair RD when/if we move him. While certainly not the "ideal", long term Hughes partner, he also still plays well with Hughes. Could be a decent, cheap stop gap there that allows us to put Soucy back in a more suitable 3rd pair role and run 3 VERY capable pairs, with guys all on their natural sides.

    Hughes, Bear

    Cole, Hronek

    Soucy, Myers

Would be the best D we've run in YEARS.

would feel much more confident in being a playoff team if this is the D we run with

  4. If soucy cant play with Hughes I think its basically a guaranteed necessity that we bring him back

We cant roll into next year with mcward/juulsen in our top-6. Imagine what happens when one of our defensemen gets an injury, god forbid.

thing is.. with the pearson out, desmith in move.. we still only have about 500k in space. Assuming he replaces Rathbone in our current active lineup (850k) thats 1.35 million.

If Bear is signed a month or so into the season, we can afford.. 1.5m max?

The hope would be that he'd sign for that with a big raise next year if he succeeds.

  5. Think Joshuas probably out and Podz might start in the AHL. PDG interchangeable part for Mikheyev until Mikheyev is healthy (helps that PDG can kill penalties like mikheyev too)

    Hoglander-Petey-Kuzmenko

    Mikheyev-Miller-Boeser

    Beauvillier-Suter-Garland

    Aman-Blueger-Studnicka

Would be really nice to have Aman there on the fourth line too as an extra center

Funny how much things can change in just a few days.

Not too long ago, Joshua was getting praised for the intensity he was bringing to practices, his devotion to the fans in attendance, and a strong showing on one of the better performing lines at the Saturday scrimmage.

Now, he’s drawing comparisons to infamous Fischtown Pinguin, Jake Virtanen. 😬

Hopefully Joshua can turn things around over the remainder of this camp/preseason.

i cant believe i had the opportunity to rebrand my account during the forum migration to fischtownpinguin and i didnt take it

smh what am i even doing with my life

  7. Really a tough one. He was definitely a victim of being part of a terrible system + having an incompatible partner here.

I dont think he was ever gonna be a 7m dollar defenseman for us and we sure wouldnt have been able to make all our moves (soucy + cole + hronek) if we kept him.

I think even if you take OEL healthy + performing well, our blue line still looks better now.

Still, sucks. I liked him, and assume he's going to play to a 4-5m level with Florida.
