That is a pretty off base comparable. Weird because Beauvillier has more takeaways than 90% of the team, the best on ice save % a positive impact on CORSI and has a favourable dzone start utilization. For a soft guy he seems to be winning more battles than anyone not named Quinn Hughes and thats with far less TOI.

He has definitely looked better as year has gone. First few games of season had to check to see if he actually played. He has gotten more engaged but man that poor guy is snake bit.

Manny Malhotra was signed for 2.5x3 which was 4.21% Beauvilliers 4.1mil is 5.09% not much difference For what you're talking about utilization plays a huge part. He'd probably have those good numbers if he played on Petey's line. Regardless he's a negative value contract and very hard to move at the moment. Malhotra was a center and face-off specialist and was used as the best defensive 3rd line center in the league. He played a huge role on the 2011 President's trophy winner. Beauvillier is a tiny garden varletry tweenerish scoring winger with middling success. 1

He has simplified his game but needs to work on his pivots/edge work to solidify himself in the NHL. Many times he skated himself into a corner, so to speak, and ends up ringing it around the boards. I'm pulling for the kid to make it as he brings the toughness we need more of. Great post, as always, James. You are absolutely right about Juulsen. In the Edge data he appears to be slowest skater on the team and his pivots are not good and his edge work is not good, at least not compared to NHL level. (He looks fine in the AHL, but the pace in the AHL is slower.) I am sure he has tried to improve his skating but some guys just are not great skaters. Obviously he needs to play conservatively and really focus on playing with structure -- being in the right place -- and on being aware of where his teammates are and making good first pass. That takes focus but I think that is what the coaches are focusing on. With Soucy out we really need Juulsen to be able to hold his own against bottom 6 NHL forwards. And of course his physical play helps, as the Canucks are not exactly a tough team.

Juulsen's performances: Montreal (14 mins) : Average Islanders (11 mins) : Bad Calgary (15 mins) : Bad Seattle (13 mins) : Average Sharks (15 mins) : Good I thought he was solid against the Sharks and took another step towards playing simple and physical. We just need Juulsen to keep on getting more game time and I think that he will turn into a serviceable 6th d-man until we get Soucy back. I also believe that he's already surpassed Friedman but we will see. Mark Friedman also had a solid game against the Sharks. I hope that the team rotates Hirose back into the lineup for the next game and sits Friedman.

And of course his physical play helps, as the Canucks are not exactly a tough team. Well put... and just to add, I'm gonna lay out the games played for Juulsen over his career dating back a few years... 2023-24 so far 8 games 2022-23 61 games 2021-22 58 games 2020-21 9 games 2019-20 13 games 2018-19 24 games I cannot emphasize enough how much Juulsen needs actual game time to improve. I really hope that we start seeing his baseline slowly rise. He'll never be a guy that pivots fast, but his straight line skating is decent and he loves to play physical. He can also hit a 100 foot pass pretty often, so I am very hopeful that he can provide us with something similar to what Kyle Burroughs gave us last year, minus the fighting. Edit: Colorado game will be a big test for Juulsen. Lots of speedy guys that will try and go around him. He is a smallish winger that skates well, provides some forecheck and is a shooter that has never been a great scorer. Ultimately PDG beat him and Podz for that open spot on the top 6. He needs to develop a solid PK game and be a bit more of a pest to maintain his long term presence in the NHL.

My budy and I, at the arcade playing air hockey. people look at us like "WTF' as we put on our sunglasses. They quickly understand, as the puck leaves the table surface. a couple of pucks aimed at faces can really ruin some peoples game confidence. iirc the term is "wasting one".
