When the team is covering their assignments and not trying to do someone else’s job in the D zone these big athletic d men thrive. Adding a Zadorov would look good.  As much as I love Tanev, I am not sure he’d be as effective as Zad for us given the way the D are playing. Either would be great though if we aren’t talking cost.
 

 

I’m worried Tanev will get injured a lot and is getting old - speaking of age how old is Zad?

Not a pretty win, Anaheim was the better team for a lot of the game but our skill and Demko come through. Going to have to be twice as good against Vegas, they're in a skid but they'll elevate their game for us which will be a playoff-like game for the lead and division lead in points.

Nice win after a tough result on the weekend.  Only watched the 3rd period, but heard that the team got stronger as the game went on.  I am glad they won the 3rd period tonight after three 3rd period setbacks in the last 2 weeks going in tied.  

 

With the parity in the league, it seems that each game will now require A LOT of effort to be successful now - whether it is Seattle, Dallas or Anaheim -  SJ even beat the Caps last night. With some upcoming contenders like Vegas, NJ, Carolina, Tampa .(even the improved Flames) coming up, it is going to take an even greater team effort to knock off those teams

 

Just hope the coaching staff paces the practices accordingly so the players have lots of the energy left for the games - seems games will be every other night.  Great effort tonight guys - rest up a tough one with Vegas on Thursday.

Some late comments.

 

1. Once again the Canucks won the game on the basis of a dominant 3rd period. They had a decent start, scored first, then had a lacklustre period and-a-half, with only 12 shots after two periods, and that included two power plays. But the Canucks were great in the third, outshooting the Ducks 15-4 and ahead 33-12 on the Corsi clock.  It is great to see that the Canucks are good enough to dominate a team like Anaheim for a period, but a bit of a worry that Anaheim had the edge for two periods. 

 

2. Still, overall, the Canucks led in Corsi and expected goals by a decent margin, despite being slightly outshot overall. The Canucks had more high danger chances.

 

3. Fortunately, Demko was excellent again, and the Canucks really needed him to be good tonight. There might be a tendency to take him for granted. But if the Canucks had only average goaltending they would, in my view, be at best an average team.

 

4. Too bad Hughes missed out on the Canuck consecutive game scoring record. After not getting a point tonight he remains tied for the record. But he played a very good game.

 

5. Nice to see Boeser get two goals (including the empty netter) to lead the NHL in goals again. And he played well overall. He is having a bounceback season or maybe a "revenge" season. And Petey is back. He had a good game tonight.

 

6. Hope Mikheyev is ok. Maybe Myers should not be allowed to shoot from the point. Screening in front is dangerous, but the shot is supposed to go beside the screening player (maybe for a tip), not hit the screening player. Myers has now hurt Mik and Petey on wild shots from the point (which are low percentage shots anyway).

 

7. In his post-game comments Tocchet was less positive about Kuzy than I expected, although Kuzy mishandled the puck a few times and was maybe trying to be too "fancy" with the puck at times. But he was getting to the net and being in front of the net was what allowed Petey to get the game-winning goal.  And his "advanced stats" were excellent, leading the team in on-ice expected goal percentage. But a lot of that was due to Petey playing well.

 

8. Finally, McWard got in his first game of the season. He only played 9 minutes and against weaker players. He was not very noticeable, which is often a good thing for a defenceman. He did not give up much and won the on-ice Corsi battle 9-4. I think he could help the team. Also, as Tocchet said in his post-game remarks, Juulsen in playing much better recently and he played well again tonight.

 

Relieved to get the win. Hope the team can get back on a roll.

nice win considering we were awful in the first 2 period and showed up in the 3rd. are we starting to get back into the old habits of not showing up to start games again as this doesn't seem like a 1 off in the last 10 games

People don't realize how important Suter and Soucy are to this team. Its night and day without those guys

I agree, the third line is not nearly as dangerous without Suter in the middle. I thought the fourth line was much better than the third and that's with Aman in the middle. I think we let Teddy walk after this season, Aman is a remarkable 200 for player even at this early stage of his career.
