Regardless of how this washes out, what I've asked them for is to engage the forum whether it's a part of Canucks.com or if it's over here. They can only benefit from it's existence... --------------------------------- Okay, so was a generally productive call with Terry, he's the Chief Revenue Officer for the Canucks business side of the organization. Generally, this is action of shutting down the forum is coming from Marketing as they only see about 500 fans actively posting every month. I've addressed that in a follow up email to them which I'll post shortly. The Canucks Marketing team meets every Tuesday morning and the Canucks forum WILL be on tomorrow's meeting agenda. Some of the concerns that they have within the organization is the amount of negative messaging and even some stuff that they consider racist. This has been creating negative feedback and issues within the season ticket base as well as their advertiser community. I told him that there was always going to be some of that, but that the moderators within this board do an excellent job overall of policing that as do some of the other fans at calling out people who are pushing over a line. Here's a screenshot of the email that I just sent back to both Michael and Terry. I'm presenting all information back to the base here as, this is the level of engagement and active feedback that I feel should have been coming directly from the team for some time and I told Terry as much. No guarantees, but I've asked them directly to open the door and let us (ALL OF US) be a part of the discussion and find a way to evolve the forum into a model for the rest of the league. I was a long time lurker on CDC and only just recently signed up. Shortly after I signed up, they shut it down. My point is that I have very few posts and probably won't post much in the future on the new site, but I have been following CDC for years. And while I think the intentions are well intended @VegasCanuck, and appreciate the efforts, I think it would be a mistake to go back to the old forum that is controlled by the Canucks. First off, we have almost the same forum in the new home (thanks so much @Ribs). Secondly, we basically control it ourselves. But the biggest reason I have for not wanting the old forum back, is what if they do rescind their decision, and everyone goes back, and then sometime down the road they decide to shut it down again, this time with no notice? Then the community really is lost. At least this time everyone has two weeks notice. With the work @Ribs has done, and the migration that's taking place, my suggestion is to run with it. This time there is a pretty good chance that the Community stays together. If they ever decided to shut it down without any notice, it would be very difficult to rebuild. There's an old saying "Fool me once, shame on you - fool me twice, shame on me". In my view, they've fooled us all once. Why give them a chance to fool us a second time? 4 8 3

If we all wind up here but with a much stronger relationship and communication bridge to the team? Even better.

I'm not going to stop being critical of the team if I believe they deserve it, I refuse to try and put a positive spin on everything, sometimes there are reasons to criticize or be "negative" I've butt heads with some folks in the past because of it, we moved along, I've maybe been too critical for some folks liking but I'm not the only poster who has been It sounds to me like they're wary of criticism and narratives they can't control, and they don't like reading threads about how we discuss Aquilini, the team, management or the organization that do not paint them in a positive light To their credit the mods did a good job keeping things balanced even if I didn't always see eye to eye on some things, decisions, or bannings They volunteered for thankless roles I don't think there's any putting pandora back in the box even if we all wind up staying on CDC somehow The marketing and ticket holders bit sounds like some bs, as if marketers are trolling through our threads, they may get the odd ticket holder complaint but whatever 4 hours ago, Crash The Crease said: I was a long time lurker on CDC and only just recently signed up. Canuck You
It's funny what they tried to cover up made things worse for them and they got exposed , And possibly lost sales on merch and traffic while Nuck fans kept the train rolling..So CDC: 1

There's a big difference between being critical and being negative. No one's expecting anyone to put positive spins on anything but it is important to acknowledge the positives and see the positives when they occur. 2

Upon this we can agree, there is room for varying forms of feedback It just seems the Canucks have been trying to mitigate critical and more negative feedback, which is a shame There is always going to be a wide range of opinions and views amongst the fanbase, the media, and so on, things like shutting down a fan forum and controlling which media have access to the team or channeling their messages through in house media present as a desire to grab control of narratives It's a futile effort, boards like reddit, HF, and others are beyond their reach, other socials like twitter/x and so on are as well Varying feedback exists throughout all of it, it did on CDC, and likely will here as well If the Canucks are shutting down CDC in part because of discussions, views, and so that they don't like that's a shame because those things will always be present one way or another Edited September 19, 2023 by Coconuts

No one's expecting anyone to put positive spins on anything but it is important to acknowledge the positives and see the positives when they occur. The problem is, who is the authority on what is fine criticism? CDC was very hard on the team, yes. But why wouldn't we be? What has the team done in 10 years to make us ultra positive. Being critical of the team is our right as fans especially when the team has been as bad as it has been with no real light at the end of the tunnel. Obviously racism and threats and what not are not okay, but that wasn't a huge deal on CDC that I noticed. The negativity on CDC was in line with how poorly the team was playing. It wasn't nearly as bad as the garbage I read on Twitter or what I see on Reddit. Sounds like subterfuge to shift blame onto us for CDC shutting down. Like them saying CDC was negatively effecting season ticket holders. Which might be the dumbest thing I heard in a long while. CDC shutting down will probably work out better for us in the long run anyway. A lot of us have no problems donating to keep the new forum going. And being unofficial our topics can be whatever we want them to be. Of course, the mods here are incredible so it won't devolve into Reddit/Twitter hate filled garbage. But having the freedom to critique the team is huge. Freedom of speech has to mean something. Not to get super dramatic. But if they're trying to censor criticism, well yeah. Not ideal for a discussion board.
Popular Post Ribs
CDC was probably the most positive online Canucks community. There was a lot of criticism, but that should be expected for a team that's been a trash fire for a decade. The criticism was coming from caring fans who want nothing more than to be wrong about the team. The racism thing is insulting and untrue. 2 3 1

As far as CDC shutting down, I feel the same as everyone else does. Not blaming anyone other than the Canucks for completely missing the mark with fans and how much CDC meant to people beyond the team and game itself.
