[Rumour] Oil exploring a Broberg trade

They should have moved him after signing Kulak for 4 years. They really don’t have a lot of trade chips so it’s a fair bet that they try to use him as part of a package to try and move Campbell imo.

That would make a lot of sense, Oil need cap something fierce

If they can clear Campbell's cap that gives them room to go after a D

This guy really shouldn't have been a top 10 pick, maybe late 1st round, probably early to mid 2nd round.

There were better options available.

One can argue about where Broberg should or shouldn't have gone, but he's one of the few trade chips the Oil have

Rumour is Broberg to Columbus:

To Columbus:

Philip Broberg

Ryan McLeod

Jack Campbell

To Edmonton:

Andrew Peeke

Elvis Merzlikins

Apparently, the Oilers want Elvis to be their new goalie saviour...

Would make a lot of sense imo, Elvis and Soup aren't too far off as far as cap goes and Columbus has the cap space to eat the difference

Oil are limited by their lack of cap space but if they can turn Campbell's cap into positive cap that'd be a win

Columbus isn't really using Peeke, not sure how much he actually helps Edmonton but he's likely available

Still a young D who was recently drafted high, 8OA in 2019 and only 22, could very well go on to have success elsewhere

Yup, him (and Bouchard) both probably should have been taken closer to 15-20 +/-. EDM's amateur scouting has been awful for years.

I like Troy but I don't think he'd move the needle enough for Edmonton

Broberg to Washington makes a lot of sense for Washington imo, Edmundson is a pending UFA with 1.75M cap hit and the Caps have been slipping of late

The caveat would be Edmundson's 10-team NTC, and whether Washington has any plans of extending him or not

But if Washington feels he'll walk they might look to move him

Washington acquired Sandin last season, could see them being open to adding another young D

this seems like a good one as well.

Not a lot of choices for them if its cap in/out only.

I do think Stech has an outside shot, maybe AZ has to bump it to a 2nd but they have lots of those.

I remember a lot of folks on CDC wanting this guy. Coincidentally, I was pretty high on Soderstrom. Lol. Trade Broberg and a pick to try dump Campbell.

They should probably package him, a 1st, Campbell for Hart +/-...

Never hear that rumor at the time or since.

I definitely could have seen Benning taking him at 10. Most lists had him in the early teens. Edmonton reached for him based on organizational needs. They had no need for a forward like Zegras or Boldy 🤣

Zegras was picked one pick before us. Also pretty sure that’s who we had out eyes on it he wasn’t picked.

I also remember the rumor being that the Canucks were high on Zegras.

Broberg was the popular pick on CDC. Revisionist?

I'm happy with Vasili Podfolfan

Why would Columbus do this trade?  There would have to be something going their way other than that. Trading a good goalie for a bad one, a good defenseman for a bad one and whomever Ryan McLeod is.

Top 5/10 protected I reckon, but yeah. Something along these lines would be smart. If they can also squeeze Laughton outta them they'd be sitting pretty. But I think it's too convoluted a move for them to make right now. But adding Hart would be wise for them.

Why would Philly want Campbell?

So the owners can pay an AHL player 5 mil?

Don't know enough about Broberg, but he has played 79 NHL games (11 points).

Hirose for Broberg - both have NHL experience, but are having difficulty cracking the NHL roster. Not sure EDM would go for it though.

Mike Komisarek might help Broberg develop, and then possibly Gonchar one day. I think JR/PA like these reclamation-type players.

Anaheim has Lyubushkin who's a pending UFA

Ana gives Lyubushkin 50% retained and maybe a mid/late pick or Broberg?

They take a chance that could really turn out for them and Edmonton gets a decent bottom pair defensive dman and a pick.

I wonder if something like that could work out?

No chance the Ducks do that. Broberg is a bustaroo. He has (maybe?) a third round pick in value.
