[Trade] Canucks trade Jack Studnicka to Sharks for 2024 6th round pick and Nick Cicek

Recommended Posts

Kinda' harmless, if you will. Studnicka, Kravtsov; you could even throw Stillman and Friedman in this mix; pretty much a, "see what you can do for me today" type of schtick . In every instance we gave up farm prospects, Lockwood, DiPietro, Myrenberg, Rathbone, (Who weren't suited in Managements plans, or just weren't working out for us.) in exchange, as it were.

So we know this Nick Cicek was a Sharks 6th round pick, a LD, a biggish 6'3", 202plus pounder, not much NHL experience. Pretty much an AHL'er.

Maybe PA sees something in him. Doesn't hurt that we got a 6th along with him. Kids not afraid to drop 'em! Can always use size at the back. Maybe a LD bruiser along with RD Juulsen for a physical 7th/8th, or ??!?!?!!!?? Who knows.

Cicek was summoned from AHL San Jose on Sunday.

SCOUTING REPORT

The undrafted defenseman has NHL size, and he has developed his offensive game since turning pro. That said, the main part of his game should continue to be an ability to stay at home and defend his position; he is more concerned with keeping the puck out of his team's net than putting up points. Also, he is working to become harder to play against, to improve his skating and to be more efficient at making a good first pass out of his own zone.

Long Range Potential: Useful defenseman with a little upside.

Just watch as our coaching staff and others in the organization, at both the AHL and NHL levels guide Cicek to reach his potential, and become a serviceable player...he's still only 23, and has only played 16 NHL games....I trust that PA/JR and the scouts see something in him that they can work with....I don't think this trade was solely for the sake of dumping Studnicka for any old return, PA is too wiley for that, and too calculating to leave things to random chance

Our management is always on the prowl to improve. They do not sit back at all. I love it.

If we end up being in this spot, second in the league, or close to it, by the TDL, then I’m good with sacrificing a first for a top end player. This could actually be our year!

We are -1-2 pieces away I believe, Nuck fans doubt ourselves so much just because it seems like it's gotten used too! But Hey, Why not us!?!

Cicek is a former Portland Winterhawk.  You'd think that he'd have been on Bennings radar....

One of the things I like about PA is he tries things and moves on quickly when he sees something isn’t going to work.
I did not like the trade for Studnicka.
He is what he is. He may find a spot that fits and turn into an NHLer at some point.
That we had a look and got something back that bolsters our organization’s depth on D is great.
I like PA a lot. A guy this active, imagine how Kuz feels when the organization sounds critical of him and roumers start flying.
He feels like scoring in 2 games in a row and back checking!
