I have family in Australia. While I've never made the trip myself (issues with vertigo and flying) everyone else who's done it has felt pretty lousy for a day or two. I think a 7 hour time change does affect most people, never mind the extremely long flight where you're sitting for 14 hours in a low-oxygen environment.

You may have anti-jet-lag superpowers!

Exactly.....my daughters two friends JUST arrived from Australia yesterday morning and the day was pretty much a write off. Just unpacking, resting, eating.

I think you may not "feel" different doing basic things but physical exertion probably would take a toll pretty quickly.

Part of hockey is dealing with the grueling schedule. It's all about how you prepare. Some athletes are better and more focused then others. We seem to very focused and prepared mentally as a group. We'll see what this group is made of as we progress through the second half of the season.

I dont spend much time on Twitter, er or X or whatever you call it, but I get on this morning and see a bunch of posts from stats nerds basically showing how "lucky" the Canucks are and on the other hand showing what a powerhouse the coilers are if it were not for their goalie.  "Underlying stats"....in my mind all that counts is the actual record. Do these spreadsheets take into account travel schedules, back to back games etc?

I know im a dinosaur but this stuff is getting out of hand, sure there might be a place for it ...but if we are lucky coz we have Demko standing on his head, arent the Oilers lucky for having a guy like McDavid on the roster? Isnt that the equivalent of a forward standing on his head. If he plays like half the game does that skew the possession numbers of the roster in general.  I wont get into the PDO...whatever the hell that really is.  All i know is when I see an oiler fan claim the Canucks are lucky - after winning 4 draft lottos in short order...including a generational talent all because of a slot machine..i roll my eyes ...Luck my ass...

How many more wins do they need to see before they realize there is something else going on here.

Isn't PDO just shooting % + save % and anything above 100% is considered "lucky".  Of course the Canucks are going to have a high PDO, they have some great shooters and a couple of great goalies....it's not a fluke.

I lived and worked in Australia for about 4 years and made the trip Kelowna - Sydney return (sometimes to Winnipeg - Sydney) 14 times over those 4 years.

Never had jet lag on either side. Landing in Sydney at 8AM or so, would go home, clean up and off to work for the afternoon. Motivation to go work for 4 hours, well, the pubs in the Sydney CDB combined with the Orangutans I worked always made for a great night. My philosophy was "power through on either side until midnight then crash" ... never failed me. Maybe I am just built differently.

You’re not a dinosaur. The stats nerds are worthless to any self respecting hockey fan. These twerps usually have never played the game and merely want to weasel into journalism by way of stats and analytics. They view the game purely through the analytics lens and have no real world experience to draw from.

Flew to Australia a year ago for a few days. Was jetlagged the entire time. No way I could have played competitive hockey.

But I decided to save some money and take the long way home, so I left down under this time last year in December 2022 and just got back today at English Bay ...

... and boy are my arms tired ...
