Neither player has come close to living up to their inflated contracts. I can't see goaltending really helping Edmonton until they figure out how to defend as a team. They could have Patrick Roy in his prime right now and they'd still be destroying his save percentage and GAA. The type of surgery they need isn't easily performed. Bouchard is putting up points right now, I'd try and find a team that needs an upgrade on blueline offense and a PP quarterback and try and move him for a really good young defensive specialist. Ideally, they would have almost been better off trying to flip Bouchard to Calgary straight up for Zadorov, but I'm pretty happy how that played out. We got Zadorov for a song, and not even a very good song, more back woods banjo ala Deliverance....

He should easily get them a defensively sound 2nd line centerman and a top pair defenseman if he were to be traded. at this point they might as well just go for it... Drai and Campbell for Josi, ROR and Saros. Works perfectly for the two years then start rebuilding plan they should be adopting

Only time I would consider that personally would be if it looked like McDavid was going to leave and Drai wasn't. Otherwise, I tend to look at building around the best player, which would be McDavid. Let's be real in the end: BOTH players would retrieve insane value back. If that's the decision Edmonton has to make to balance their team, either player would bring back value that would help that. Like do you trade away your Lambo or your Ferrari? If there's ever a 1st world problem in the hockey world...

That's it I think, but I think teams likely value Gibson and Marky more Wouldn't be surprised to see the Elvis/Campbell swap with Edmonton that folks were talking about earlier this season

Personally I would value Gibson and Merzlikins over Markstrom just due to age. If Markstrom's contract expired this year I'd take him over a Elvis as a rental, but at 4 years younger I'm taking the chance on Merzlikins over an aging and now inconsistent Markstrom for two more seasons. I get what you're saying, but the difference between Elvis and Markstrom is that Markstrom has a longer track record of maintaining some qualify stats over the course of larger sample sizes Considering Calgary's been a bit of a mess this season his numbers don't actually look too shabby, put him behind a better defensive team and his stats likely improve Older or not, he's also a shorter commitment given he has two years left on his deal after this season instead of Elvis's three, a team would just need him to age well over the next couple seasons which I think is doable That single year could mean a lot to a team like Carolina, who doesn't like older guys on big term, it also frees up cap sooner than later https://www.capfriendly.com/players/jacob-markstrom https://www.capfriendly.com/players/elvis-merzlikins Edited January 12 by Coconuts
