It’s the same scenario now isn’t it? Why wouldn’t he re-sign at whatever we give him an injury could cost him 10s of millions long term? I don’t think any player is worried about injury costing them millions or no one would have waited till they hit ufa before signing. Ep signing the offer sheet is a better route than signing the qualifying offer from the Canucks if negotiation goes south. Just because he controls his destiny if he signs offer sheet and match because Canucks can’t trade him. It can also be used as a leverage to make a trade with the Canucks.. either trade him to us for so and so or we offer sheet him and you lose him for nothing if you choose to match. Unlikely but that scenario is out there

On the topic of swedes, its worth mentioning to watch the new limited series titled Borje on Crave. True story of Salming and how he got into the NHL. Lots of Leafs gibberish, but still worth the watch!
