There seems to be no such thing as injury updates regarding Abby players.

Have noticed that... would be nice to know how bad the injury is. I think they could go deep with him in the lineup.

Do we know what Woo's status is? Is he done for the season or might make it back for playoffs?

It was reported that Jett Woo had a fractured Ankle. 4-6 weeks recovery.

Abbotsford's round 2 starts Wednesday I believe. Woo is still likely another week or two away from being ready to come back, but likely won't be back until the division finals (if the Abby Canucks get there). AHL series' are shorter in the first two rounds (best of 3)and then best of 5 in the final 2 rounds before a 7 game series in the final.

Pretty close, first series is best of 3, next two are best of 5, and final two series are 7 games. Still works out that 16 wins takes the Calder cup for most teams, unless you're a top seed and you get a first round by in which case it's 14.

This image is out of date but it does a good job of explaining the AHL brackets.

perhaps he believes he makes the big team next year?

No hint he is anywhere close before big injury. He was slow to pick up AHL game and likely isn’t going to ever be more than call-up level D man in NHL.

The timing seems weird you would think he'd be qualified or atleast given a 1 way deal?

more details are needed.

it might be that management and Woo already have a deal mostly worked out, or they told him they expect him to make the big team.

or that Woo is simply saying "thanks for memories" to the 203/24 team and not saying "goodbye' to the organization.

Perhaps, but what does he believe?

We don't know what the coaches have told him, or the gms of either level.

I think there will be more info coming out in the next few days--- if only because some reporter, with access will be skimming these pages looking for story/question ideas.

Could be an indication that the team already informed him that they don't intend on qualifying him.

Or simply could also be Woo's message of purely thanking the Abbotsford fans but just seems like awkward wording - making it seem he isn't returning to Abbotsford.

Save this kind of speculation for the dog days of summer. 🤣

All he’s doing is thanking the fans. He will obviously be re-signed by the Canucks. They don’t have the D depth not to.

Bit by bit, Patrik Allvin and company are taking a good hard look at who to bring back, who to let go, and who to bring in as an outsider. And while fans have their eyes peeled on what’s happening with the big club, these decisions also trickle down into the farm system.
On Thursday, CHEK TV’s Rick Dhaliwal reported the fates of two players within the Abbotsford Canucks’ squad.
First, there appears to be a strong indication that Jett Woo will be given a qualifying offer and a potential new deal to follow.

The 23-year-old is coming off his best statistical season and has now shown a pattern of improving his game in back-to-back campaigns.

Last summer, he earned a one-year “show me” deal for the 2023-24 season, and he certainly did just that. In six fewer games, he matched his 2022-23 goal totals of seven and added 10 more assists to finish with the 16th highest point totals among AHL defenders (32).
Beyond the numbers, Woo was considered a crucial part of the Canucks’ backend, taking on an elevated role when the team suffered countless injuries that included Christian Wolanin and Filip Johansson.
At one point, he was not only playing top-pairing minutes, but also manning the top powerplay and penalty kill units.
While it did not lead to his NHL debut, his strong play earned him his first pair of promotions to Vancouver to soak in the top-level environment.
With names like Jalen Chatfield, who at 28 earned himself a three-year, three-million-dollar deal, we are constantly reminded that patience is a virtue with some defenders. Woo will be 24 by training camp, and given his leadership and willingness to earn his paychecks in the tough areas, there is a benefit to staying patient with development.

Unfortunately, it’s not good news for all prospects.
Later in the day, Dhaliwal reported that the Canucks will not be qualifying their 2019 seventh-round pick, Aidan McDonough.

Given his release, however, there is a good chance that he will garner some attention in the free-agent pool. And although it’s never easy to give up on homegrown talent, it shouldn’t feel like a huge loss in the grand scheme of things.
With Sheldon Dries, Zach Sawchenko, and Filip Johansson all confirmed to be on their way out, Nick Cicek (RFA) and Matt Irwin (UFA) remain the only contracts to finalize on the farm.

To make the opening day roster, Woo has to beat out Desharnais, Juulsen and possibly McWard. Tough spot for him to be in coming off a serious injury, but he has worked hard to round out his game and it would be nice to see him get a few games to see how or if he fits.

Hard to believe Woo was drafted 6 years ago. I was expecting him to already be on the team and in the Top 4. Some develop slower I guess. He'll be 24 in a couple of weeks and has zero NHL games so far.

With the one-year deal, I think this is Woo's last chance to do something (make the team or be a callup). Hoppe he has a great offseason of training, he'll need to be very good.

Kevin Bieksa didn't play a game until he was 24.
